DealDash Savors Summer: Things to Do Before August

My family has been having a great summer so far, and trying to enjoy every day. Let’s make the most of the rest of July.

Can you believe July is almost over? It feels like summer just started, and suddenly August is peeking around the corner. Before we let this sunny season slip through our fingers, now is the perfect time to slow down and squeeze in some simple joys. Whether you’ve been go-go-go all summer or you’re just waking up from a mid-season daze, here are some fun, relaxing, and meaningful things to do before July ends. Keep reading for some fun and ineresting suggestions from DealDash.

Spend Time Outside This Summer

If you live somewhere that is cold for a good portion of the year like I do, then you tend to try to make each warm day count. Since we are heading into the end of July, there’s only one full month of summer vacation left. Let’s make the most of it by spending time outside!

Watch the Sunset (or Sunrise!)

There’s something magical about watching the sky change colors on a warm summer evening. And sometimes even more beautiful, starting your day with a peaceful sunrise. Take a moment to sit outside, unplug, and enjoy nature’s show.

Host a Casual Backyard Picnic

You don’t need a special occasion to throw a little outdoor get-together. Lay out a blanket, grab some easy snacks, and invite a few friends or family members to enjoy the sunshine with you. Each year my family takes turns hosting a “cousin’s BBQ”. This includes all of the cousins who are in their 30’s and 40’s, and all of their kids – the new generation of cousins.

Spend a Day Offline

Give yourself a break from screens. Pick a day to unplug: no phone, no social media, no email. Go for a walk, read a book, do something crafty, or just enjoy a slower pace.

Visit a Farmer’s Market

Late July is peak season for fresh produce. Treat yourself to juicy peaches, ripe tomatoes, or sweet corn. Bonus: try making a new recipe using whatever local goodies you bring home. My town has a farmer’s market every Monday in the summer. Check your town’s website to see when yours is open.

Spend Time This Summer Making Memories

Check Something Off Your Summer Bucket List

Remember that list you made back in June? Whether it was visiting a local landmark, going kayaking, or trying a new recipe, now’s the time to cross something off. Even just one thing can make the season feel more fulfilling.

Make a Summer Scrapbook (Digital or Physical!)

Gather your favorite summer photos, ticket stubs, or mementos and create a little keepsake. It’s a fun project and a great way to hold onto those happy memories.

Have an Impromptu Ice Cream Night

Head out for soft serve or grab your favorite pints from the freezer and make it an event. Think sprinkles, toppings, and all! Bonus points for turning it into a sundae bar with the kids.

Take a Day Trip Somewhere New

You don’t have to go far, just explore a town, hiking trail, or park you’ve never been to before. A mini road trip can be just the refresh you need.

Use Summer to Relax and Take a Breath

Do Nothing on Purpose

Seriously. Lie in a hammock, sit on your porch, or take a nap with the windows open. Let go of the pressure to “do” and just be for a little while.

Set a Simple Intention for August

Before the calendar flips, take a few minutes to think about what you want next month to feel like. Peaceful? Productive? Playful? Jot down a few goals or thoughts, you’ll thank yourself later.
