DealDash Keeps the Christmas Spirit All Year

DealDash

It may be halfway through January, but now is a great time to spread some happiness. Read on for some excellent ideas from DealDash.

Christmas has come and gone, and now you have a lot of new items to add to your already cluttered house. However, let’s try to keep the Christmas spirit going with kindness. Here’s a way to cut down on some of that clutter while enjoying your new gifts. Read on for some helpful ideas from DealDash.

Check your closet

Most people get a few new shirts, pairs of pants, or jackets as part of their Christmas haul. Our family typically tries to find one item to donate for each item that we receive. Look for the things that you haven’t worn this year. One of my favorite ways to track that is to have all of my hangers face the same direction at the start of the year. When I’ve worn something, I turn the hanger in the opposite direction.

Either way, consider donating the things that are still in good condition to a local organization. If you’re not interested in the trip to the thrift store, consider one of those “planet” donation boxes that you’ll find all over town. They make things convenient but still give you the chance to help someone out.

Check the Toy Chest

Much like our clothing, we quickly overload on toys for the kids (and dogs). Take a hard look at what your kids are playing with. See if you can pass those toys forward that aren’t as popular at your house. If your children are old enough, post-Christmas is the perfect time to help them get in on the project. Explain to them that you want to pass along that joy to another child. Remind them how happy they were to get something new on Christmas morning and that they could help give that feeling to another child.

Check the Kitchen

Somehow, we always end up getting wine glasses and coffee mugs as part of our Christmas gifts. I’m sure you can guess what we like to do in our spare time! Because of that, we quickly run out of space. These would be something that is easy to regift. If you’re not a fan of regifting or donating something like glasses and mugs, consider changing the layout of your kitchen. There are great examples on Pinterest of how you can set up a “mug wall”.

If You Didn’t Get What You Wanted, Check DealDash

Finally, as we all know, sometimes we don’t get what we really wanted during the holidays. That’s not a problem with DealDash. There are a few things that are hard to gift to people, such as a computer or video game system – things change so quickly it’s hard to know what the giftee really wants. I suspect this is why there are so many returns on the day after Christmas – the gifter tried their best but didn’t get the correct style or electronic spec. DealDash is here to help! If you wanted an electronic like a computer, game system, tablet, or speaker, simply check the Electronics and Computers category. DealDash Organizes in January

DealDash

It’s official! The holidays are over and it’s time to clean up. Here are some cleaning suggestions from DealDash.

Everyone knows about spring cleaning, but a thorough cleaning in January just might be even more important. Your house is cluttered with old toys, new gifts, decorations, and more food than you can handle. Read these ideas from DealDash and then get started.

Put Away the Tree and Decorations

Start your new year by taking down the decorations from Christmas and trying to find their place. It’s amazing how much more space you’ll have when the decorations are put away. Next, look at downsizing a bit. You can throw away those decorations that are worn out.

Also, you should look at getting rid of some of your children’s toys, and you should consider getting rid of some of your own toys as well. We all have those clothes, toys, or knickknacks that have seen better days. Consider donating the older stuff now that you have something new. I like to use the “1 in 1 out” rule at my house, and it can be a bit overwhelming with 3 kids and a giant pile of new toys and clothing.

Solutions for Cords and Cables

Consider having a set box for certain things. In our house, we have a box of a/v cords that we keep on hand. There may more than we need, but you never know when the cable you’re using will short out. Whether it’s your excess wrapping supplies, cords, or batteries, you can find a space to save them for the future without cluttering up the house. You can also pick a drawer in the kitchen, get a cutlery separator for it, and store your cords in the different sections.

Shampoo the Carpets and Clean the Vents

As we’ve been hosting Christmas over the years, we’ve found that January is the perfect time to shampoo the carpets. We opted to buy a shampooer, but you may prefer to just rent one. Either way, there’s something almost therapeutic about watching the dirt slowly disappear from your carpet. As a result, the sense of pride and accomplishment as you see your carpet return back to its original color is amazing.

Also, if you’re willing to do the deep cleaning, consider your vents and filters. It’s not something that most people think about, but your air filters typically last about 3 months. The New Year is a good time to double-check how well your filters are holding up. While you’re at it, consider the filters in your fridge and checking the batteries in your smoke detector.

DealDash Cleans Up After Christmas

DealDash

Now that the presents have been unwrapped it’s time to clean! The week or two after Christmas is a great time to clean and get organized. Here are a few ideas from DealDash.

There’s nothing better than spending the holidays with your family; love, laughter, and everyone gathering around the fire for carols. What you never see in those holiday movies is the fact that someone has to clean up after Christmas. In the end, someone has to do it, so we wanted to offer some suggestions. Read on for some great suggestions from DealDash.

Keep Trash Bags Handy

First and foremost, keep a trash bag with you at all times. Okay, that may be a bit extreme, but you should try to keep something in reach. Whether you’re opening gifts, opening the packages for toys, or preparing dinner, there will be trash. If you can toss it into a bag without much effort, your holiday season is going to be much easier. This is especially true for the week or so after Christmas when everyone is unwrapping their new clothing and toys. There seems to be an abundance of cardboard, plastic, and paper gift tags everywhere. Keep your trash bag handy.

DealDash Will Help You Stay Organized

Trying to stay organized is a must. It’s a chaotic time when the entire family is there and the kids want to run around, but try to have a process. Being organized using shelving units, baskets, and bookshelves and racks is the perfect way to clean up after Christmas. DealDash can help you with all of these organizational items. DealDash has some especially nice children’s storage items. Just click here to see them.

Stay 2 Steps Ahead of the Mess

Plan how you’re going to clean up when you’re setting things out. I couldn’t get our lights back into their box properly if my life depended on it. I’d much rather wrap them around a piece of cardboard. Our Christmas tree, on the other hand, is much better off in its box. Know how you’re going to put things away. Know where they go and if it’s worth the hassle of trying to fit it back in the box or not.

Thanks for Reading

Planning is always the key. If you know what you’re doing ahead of time, you’ll be able to eliminate most of the stress. Use these suggestions and keep the amount of cleaning to a minimum while still maintaining your organization after the holidays are over. Thanks so much for reading this DealDash article on cleaning and organization.

DealDash Guide to Organizing Your Bookshelf

DealDash

Books can make a house look comfortable and welcoming. Here are some ideas from DealDash for organizing the books on your bookshelf.

Many people are starting to read their books online, but I don’t think that paperback and hardcover books will be going away anytime soon. I know a number of people who still love the feel of a book in their hands. They say there’s something special about turn the page rather than just swiping it. So, we’ve decided to take a few minutes to look at how you can keep those books organized. Read on for some organizational ideas from DealDash.

Cleaning and Dusting

First, you should start by cleaning everything out. It doesn’t take long for books (and spaces between them) to collect dust. Anytime I plan to re-organize, I take everything off and wipe my bookcases down. Once you’ve thoroughly cleaned you should consider how you want your books organized.

Get a Bookcase From DealDash

In the course of cleaning and dusting, you might find that your bookcase is old and/or has some damage. Since your books are already off of the shelf, it’s a great time to get a new bookshelf. DealDash has bookcases, shelves, and racks that your books would love to live on. Choose from wood, wire, and other materials. You can choose from traditional or modern styles. Just click here and you will find some beautiful bookcases from DealDash.

Organize Alphabetically

A number of people like to go alphabetically. Much like the library, having a perfect system makes it easy to find what you’re looking for. You could do this by the last name of the author or by the title. I prefer using titles as I don’t always remember who the author was when I’m looking for something.

Organize By Topic

Others look to organize by topic. They find that knowing what style they want to read is more important than finding a specific book. My favorite books are typically the same genre, so this doesn’t really work for me. If you have a large library, it can be a great way of encouraging yourself to pick up a book you haven’t seen in a few years.

Organize Visually

You may also decide to focus on aesthetics and not organize your books in any particular way. This option works really well if your bookcase is used for its visual as much as its practical uses. If you have a small library at home, this may be the way to go. I love to randomize the books so that the height varies from left to right. This adds a bit of texture to the bookcase.

Thanks for Reading

Thanks so much for reading this DealDash article on bookshelf organization. The key to bookshelf organization is to find a way you like to organize your books and stick with it. Remember to put your book back in the proper place before you take out another one, and it will stay perfectly organized. Use these ideas and keep the amount of time spent organizing to a minimum.

DealDash: Thanksgiving’s Over! Organize Your Cabinets

DealDash

Thanksgiving is over! If you hosted your kitchen is probably in need of some assistance. DealDash can help!

We all love Thanksgiving, but there’s a price to pay when you’re making food for your extended family. Typically, your kitchen ends up taking the worst of the damage. Trying to re-organize can be difficult, so we wanted to offer a few tips. Read on for helpful information from DealDash.

Clear Out the Clutter

Start by cleaning out the clutter. You can’t organize a cabinet that is still in shambles. Get rid of the spices that you can’t identify. If you have any spices that are opened and not in a normal plastic bottle, you should consider using baggies. I’ve found that labeling a baggie with a date and name of the spice is incredibly helpful. It may be good to list the serving size as well.

Use Storage to Help

  • Use Tupperware containers to make everything neat again. It’s also helpful to use Tupperware as a bit of a box for your spices or packets of mixes. It’s similar to the idea we suggested to keep a playroom neat. By having a place for everything, you know that you’ll be able to find it when you’re looking.
  • Buy a spice rack. These come in many varieties. If you have the space for a true spice rack that can hang, it’s worth its weight in gold. If you don’t have that kind of space, consider buying a spice rack that is tiered so that the spices are at different levels. It makes finding the right spice much easier.
  • Finally, you may want to consider getting small magnetic jars. You can paint the lid or side with chalkboard paint so that you can label the jar. Having something with a little character can also act as a decoration piece in your kitchen. Using a jar also looks a little nicer than plastic bags.

DealDash Has Storage for You

Did your relatives take all of your Tupperware and other storage containers home with leftovers? No problem! DealDash has something even better – beautiful glass containers for your food. These containers look elegant and “class up” any style of kitchen. Click this link to find these storage containers as well as other storage for your home.
