DealDash’s Favorite Planner Tools to Keep Family Life on Track

Keeping track of my kids’ school events, homework, sports, playdates, and parties is practically a full-time job. There’s no way that I could keep track of it without a planner.

Every year when school starts, our family calendar seems to fill itself. Between school events, sports practices, work deadlines, and everything in between, it is easy to feel like life is running me instead of the other way around. What helps keep the chaos under control are a few simple planner tools that bring order to the week. They’re not complicated or expensive, but they make a world of difference in helping our family stay on track. Keep reading for some planner tips from DealDash.

A Reliable Paper Planner

Even though I use my phone for quick reminders, there is something about writing things down that makes me feel more grounded. I keep a paper planner on the kitchen counter where everyone can see it. I like a weekly layout that has plenty of space for notes so I can list practices, appointments, and meal ideas all in one place. It is the family hub, and I love that it does not require charging or notifications, it is just there, simple and steady. My paper calendar planner, by far, is my favorite type of planner.

Color-Coded Pens and Sticky Notes

Color-coding has been a game changer for our family. Each person has their own color, so I can glance at the planner and immediately know who needs to be where. Sticky notes are another favorite tool. I use them for tasks that may change or reminders I do not want to forget. For example, if picture day forms need to be returned by Friday, I put a sticky note on that day so it catches my eye every time I flip the page. And now that my kids go to a different school, I make sure that I use each kid’s color for the sticky notes as well.

A Shared Digital Calendar

As much as I love paper, I also rely on a shared digital calendar for my husband and me. It syncs across our phones, so when one of us adds a school meeting or a work trip, the other sees it right away. This prevents the dreaded double-booking, and it keeps us from having to text back and forth constantly about who is available when. It is a small layer of backup that keeps everyone on the same page.
