Stick Figure

You can simply wear an all-white outfit and use some duct tape to make an outline of a stick figure. If you don’t have duct tape at home, a 5 minute trip to the store should get you exactly what you need. If you really want to spice up the outfit, add a strip of battery-lowered LED lights to really make your stick figure shine!

Rosie the Riveter

You can easily reach into history by wearing a full denim outfit and getting a red polka-dotted headband. Just remember that you have to do the flexing pose at least once while in costume.

Mary Poppins

This famous movie character is another easy outfit. Just find a white blouse, a nice skirt, and a hat. Adding an umbrella really helps as well. You can change colors with these outfits, but most people associate Mary Poppins with blue or white.

Reinventing the scarecrow is surprisingly easy. Find a plaid shirt. In a perfect world, you should wear denim overalls, but just wearing jeans could work as well. Add a little makeup to put red circles on your cheeks and outline some stitching around your nose and mouth. Adding some straw or a flower can really set this costume apart. Grab a friend with a blue and white gingham dress and you can skip down the yellow brick road together!

Jack Sparrow

Another easy costume that is instantly recognizable is Jack Sparrow. Wearing a white shirt with a black vest can accomplish the theme. Add in a pair of tights and a red headband to bring it home. If you have a black/brown sash that would help. Women can also take advantage of a purse and drape that across their body to create the sash look.  It helps to use makeup to outline your eyes and draw on a mustache and beard as well.

DealDash Crafts: Spooky Lanterns

Welcome back to another DealDash Spooky Crafts article, today we will be talking about spooky lantern decorations for outside the home.

Isn’t Halloween fun? Halloween and Christmas are my two favorite holidays for decorating inside and outside the home. Today’s article will include some fun and easy lantern crafts that you can do to decorate the outside of your house to welcome the little trick or treaters that are sure to come knocking in a few weeks.

Trick or Treat Lantern Cans – If you like the look of the lanterns in the above picture, they are super easy and very cheap to make. This is more of an adult’s or teen’s craft, I wouldn’t suggest doing this craft with little ones, unless they are just watching.

  • Clean empty metal cans that have the tops removed. Any size metal can will do.
  • Sharpie marker
  • Awl, hammer
  • Paint & brush
  • Candle or battery-powered candle

  1. Using your sharpie marker draw your message in DOTS on the can. Make the dots approximately 1/2″ apart.
  2. Using the hammer and awl, poke holes in the can on each dot, spelling out your message in holes in the can.
  3. Paint your can, being careful that the paint doesn’t pool in the holes you made. If you need to, you can clean up the paint blocking the holes with a Q-tip. Let dry.
  4. Put candle in the can, light, enjoy the lit up message.

Milky Ghost Lanterns – If you would prefer to do a Halloween craft with your little ones, this one is much more kid-friendly.

  • Clean empty milk jugs
  • Sharpie marker
  • Battery powered LED lights
  • Paint (optional)

  1. If you want to make colored ghosts, then do this optional step first. put a TINY drop of paint inside your milk jug, then follow that with about 1/4 cup of water. Shake up the jug, then leave the top off, and let it dry. This will produce a very thin coat of paint on the inside of the jug. I suggest using lighter colors for this such as yellow, orange, pink, or light green.
  2. Draw on your ghostly faces with the Sharpie onto your milk jug.
  3. Put in your battery-powered lights, and enjoy your lanterns. If you have painted the inside of the jug, be sure that your paint is dry before you put the LED lights in.
