DealDash Kids: Choosing Your Next Art Project

Most kids love doing arts and crafts projects. Here are some tips from DealDash to choosing your next art project with your kids.

Selecting a new art project to do with your kids can be a bit overwhelming. With so many different things to do online and off, it can be difficult to select the right art supplies. Here are some things to think about when you are looking for a new art project to do with your kids, from DealDash.

What Are Your Kids Interested in?

Think about things that your kids like. Then try to use that information to plan a project or two in order to have some fun being creative with your kids. Planning ahead of time when you want to shop online or offline for art project supplies.

For example, if your daughter loves horses and needs a new painting in her room it would make sense to try your hand at that. Perhaps your son loves dinosaurs. Maybe you could paint a ceramic dinosaur bank together. There are so many options, just try to figure out what your child is interested in.

Just Ask!

Simply ask your kids what they would like to do for an art project. Who knows, you might have all the supplies that you need right in your house. Your children will be very excited to be asked for their input. Making your kids excited about crafting is a great benefit of doing art with your kids.

What’s Your Budget?

Keep in mind your budget. You need to not simply go shopping and by art supplies. You need to pay attention to sales so you can get the very best deals on the supplies that you need. That way you can pick up your kids’ favorite supplies when they go on sale. Be sure to google “coupon” and the name of the craft store you shop at before you go to get your supplies. There are almost always coupons floating around each week.

Re-Use an Old Idea

If you have simply run out of new ideas put a twist on an old one. If you can make something your kids have done before appear exciting again it would be a great way to keep them interested in doing crafts.

For example, if you and your child have previously drawn a comic book together, why not go back and color it? Or maybe you and your child built a birdhouse. Now is the time to give it a new paint job!

Thanks for Reading

These are just a few things to keep in mind when you want to plan your next art project with your kids. You will be surprised how much having a plan will help you here. So remember ideas like these when you want to do a new project with your kids.

DealDash Kids: Why is Coloring Good for Them?

DealDashIf your kids love coloring, then I have good news for you. It’s actually good for them. Read on for more information, from DealDash.

When you think of coloring pages you often think of kids having fun scribbling and coloring outside of the lines. But did you know that there are actually several benefits to having your child use coloring pages? It’s true. Read all about it, from DealDash.

Learn Patience

If your child isn’t used to coloring within the lines of their coloring pages doing so can teach them patience. It will be a great experience for them to learn to carefully color within the lines so that they can create a beautiful picture. Even the most high-strung child can learn how to enjoy a little bit of silence and calm by using coloring pages.

Relieve Stress

Using coloring pages can be a very relaxing pastime that can ease the stress of being in school or being active at play for an extended period of time. It is also a great change of pace from being in front of a computer or a video game. Coloring is relaxing and is good for an active learning brain to slow down for a moment and relax.

Quality Time Together

Coloring together using coloring pages can be a great way to spend some time together. Coloring is very relaxing and can be a great activity to do when you want to catch up on things like what your child did in school that day. Having tough conversations about subjects like bullying can be made easier when you have something to keep your hands occupied like coloring.

Boost Confidence

As your child’s skill develops you will find that their confidence will grow as well. Encouraging them to try their best when coloring will really help their confidence when taking part in this activity as well. So be sure to tell them what a great job they are doing with their coloring skills. Don’t make a big deal if they go outside of the lines, let them know that everyone makes mistakes sometimes. Just encourage them to try their best.

Thanks for Reading

The possibilities are endless when it comes to coloring pages. You will find that there are coloring pages for kids and adults alike. Everyone can find something that they will enjoy adding color to when they are using coloring pages. No matter what benefit you are hoping to gain from using coloring pages with your kids you are going to see that most of all they are simply a great deal of fun.

DealDash Crafts: Spooky Lanterns

Image result for homemade halloween decorations

Welcome back to another DealDash Spooky Crafts article, today we will be talking about spooky lantern decorations for outside the home.

Isn’t Halloween fun? Halloween and Christmas are my two favorite holidays for decorating inside and outside the home. Today’s article will include some fun and easy lantern crafts that you can do to decorate the outside of your house to welcome the little trick or treaters that are sure to come knocking in a few weeks.

Trick or Treat Lantern Cans – If you like the look of the lanterns in the above picture, they are super easy and very cheap to make. This is more of an adult’s or teen’s craft, I wouldn’t suggest doing this craft with little ones, unless they are just watching.

  • Clean empty metal cans that have the tops removed. Any size metal can will do.
  • Sharpie marker
  • Awl, hammer
  • Paint & brush
  • Candle or battery-powered candle

  1. Using your sharpie marker draw your message in DOTS on the can. Make the dots approximately 1/2″ apart.
  2. Using the hammer and awl, poke holes in the can on each dot, spelling out your message in holes in the can.
  3. Paint your can, being careful that the paint doesn’t pool in the holes you made. If you need to, you can clean up the paint blocking the holes with a Q-tip. Let dry.
  4. Put candle in the can, light, enjoy the lit up message.

Milky Ghost Lanterns – If you would prefer to do a Halloween craft with your little ones, this one is much more kid-friendly.

  • Clean empty milk jugs
  • Sharpie marker
  • Battery powered LED lights
  • Paint (optional)

  1. If you want to make colored ghosts, then do this optional step first. put a TINY drop of paint inside your milk jug, then follow that with about 1/4 cup of water. Shake up the jug, then leave the top off, and let it dry. This will produce a very thin coat of paint on the inside of the jug. I suggest using lighter colors for this such as yellow, orange, pink, or light green.
  2. Draw on your ghostly faces with the Sharpie onto your milk jug.
  3. Put in your battery-powered lights, and enjoy your lanterns. If you have painted the inside of the jug, be sure that your paint is dry before you put the LED lights in.

I hope that you have enjoyed this article on how to make ghostly lanterns for your home. If you’re looking for any other items for your home, visit DealDash. DealDash Sews: A Pillowcase Dress

Image result for pillowcase dress

Making a pillowcase dress is easy, simple, and fun. You can use it as a dress for a little girl, or a blouse for a lady.

I love to sew, and the pillowcase dress is one of the easiest projects that you can do. You can complete the pillowcase dress in less than an hour! It’s a low-cost, high reward project. My daughter has so many of these dresses. If you have a little girl or a granddaughter this project is perfect, you can even do it together.

  • Pillowcase
  • Ribbon

  1. Buy a pretty pillowcase or find one around your house.
  2. Figure out how much of the material you will need – I’ll attach a sizing guide for little girls at the bottom of these directions.
  3. Lay out your pillowcase, measure the length you need, and cut straight across the closed end, so you end up with a tube of fabric.
  4. Cut semi-circular openings out for the arms on the side of the tube that you just cut open. (see picture for guide:

  6. Using your zig-zag stitch on the sewing machine, stitch around the arm openings that you just cut so they don’t start to unravel in the wash. Alternately, if you have a serger you can use that to serge around the arm openings.
  7. Hem and sew a tube for the ribbon on the front and the back of the pillowcase dress. Please see the picture below for reference:

  9. Guide a long length of ribbon through both casings and tie. You can use a large safety pin to guide the ribbons through the tubes. You could also use a chopstick to push the ribbon through, instead.

Here is the sizing guide, if you would like to make it into more of a pillowcase tank top then use a shorter length, or if you would like a longer dress you can layer another piece of fabric underneath to make the dress longer. This is a great project because you don’t have to follow many measurements or instructions, make it your own!

6 – 12 mos: width – 15″, length – 18-19″, finished length – 14-15″

18 – 24 mos: width – 18″, length – 20-22″, finished length – 16-18″

Size 2 – 8: width – 22″, length – 24-31″, finished length – 20-27″
