DealDash’s Spring Cleaning Series: Baby’s Bedroom

DealDash

Welcome back to DealDash’s newest series – Spring Cleaning! Today’s new article is all about cleaning the baby’s bedroom.

Depending on what part of the country you’re in, spring is either coming or it has already arrived. It doesn’t seem like winter ever showed its head, but it’s still time for spring cleaning. The next part of our series is addressing the baby’s room. Read on for some super suggestions from DealDash.

Look for Unused Pieces

It’s a room that is often forgotten, but with a baby constantly growing, it can get overcrowded pretty quickly. First, start by getting rid of anything that you obviously don’t need anymore. Is your baby in pull-ups now? Maybe you should get rid of that changing table. Don’t use that baby monitor anymore? Donate it! Never sit in the rocking chair? Relocate it, store it, or donate it.

They Grow so Quickly…

Next, start making piles of outgrown clothing. Your baby probably has plenty of clothes that are too small. Figure out what you can donate or sell, what needs to be thrown away, and what you could repurpose into rags to use for cleaning.

Too Many Outgrown Toys

After clothes, you can start focusing on the toys that you’ve got. If there’s something that you’re baby never plays with, it’s okay to donate or pass to a friend’s baby. We understand that someone put time, effort, and thought into that toy, but if it’s just taking up space and collecting dust, why not donate it so that another child can actually enjoy it?

Maybe you’ve got some toys that are still a little too advanced for your child. Again, there’s nothing wrong with that, but it’s probably safe to put those toys away in a closet or even in the attic for a bit. You can pull them back out when you’re ready.

Focus on Organization

Finally, focus on trying to get organized again. There is probably a lot going on and things in the baby’s room may have gotten a little chaotic. Take a few minutes to figure out what’s working and what isn’t. Shelves may be great. I typically prefer using drawers or boxes. It lets me toss things in the right place without taking as much time to make sure it looks perfect.

DealDash Spring Cleaning Series: The Bathroom

DealDash

Spring is almost here. Get started on your spring cleaning with DealDash’s newest cleaning series.

Our next installment of the Spring Cleaning series is looking at your bathroom. It’s probably one of the rooms that gets a ton of attention, so it’s likely to need the most help. This is a reminder of some of the deep cleaning that could make your bathroom shine again. Read on for some really excellent cleaning suggestions.

Fresh Linens

Start by going through your linens. No one likes a towel that’s been around for a decade. It thins out and isn’t soft anymore. Let’s be honest- do you feel as clean when you use an old, worn-out towel or washcloth? Take a minute to find the linen you don’t want to use and repurpose it, donate it, or throw it away. You can always use these as cleaning cloths, stick a few in your car just in case you need them, or use them as packing material when you mail something fragile.

Get New Linens on DealDash

When you’re done cleaning the bathroom it’s time to get a few new things to brighten up the space. Don’t forget to replace the linens that you got rid of earlier. Check out the Home, Garden, and Tools category for all of the choices available to you.

Clean Out the Medicine Cabinet

Next, look in your cabinet. There’s a good chance that there’s some medication in there that you don’t need anymore. Maybe it’s expired, maybe it was never effective, or maybe you hated the taste of it so much that you’re just not going to use it. Either way, make some extra space and throw your medication away. Be sure to check the dates and get rid of anything that is close to its expiration date.

Don’t Forget the Fan

We all forget about the bathroom fan when we’re cleaning. You may take the time to clean the outside, but when is the last time you took the cover off to make sure that the motor wasn’t completely clogged with dust and debris? Take a few minutes to clean the interior with a wet cloth. It’ll make things run smoother (and possibly more quietly).

Make Your Mirror Sparkle

It’s probably a good idea to do a deep clean on your mirrors. Over time, we don’t even realize there are smudges, but they’re hiding in plain view. Take a few minutes to clean with a lint-free cloth. If you don’t want to pay for a high-end glass cleaner, you can make one with vinegar and water.

DealDash Spring Cleaning Series: The Attic Room

DealDash

Welcome back to the next room in DealDash’s Spring Cleaning Series: The Attic. Read this article, then get cleaning!

The next in our Spring Cleaning series is the attic. This room probably doesn’t get a lot of use, but it should be cleaned at least once per year. Spring is the perfect time to make that happen. For the purposes of this article, we’re focused on an attic that is another room. Most of what we say won’t apply to an attic that is full of insulation and, essentially, used as storage. Read on for some great suggestions, from DealDash.

De-Clutter and Re-Organize

Start with a focus on de-cluttering and planning on where that stuff is going to go. When you first moved into your house, everything in this attic had its place. Try to restore some of that organization. I find that having boxes with descriptive labels has been incredibly helpful.

Give Your Items New Life – Donate!

Some of those things don’t need a place of their own anymore; at least not at your house. Can you make any donations? Is there something that you haven’t used in years? Maybe you thought you could fix that lamp and it just hasn’t happened yet. Don’t be afraid to sell, donate, or throw out the things that are filling your basement.

Let’s Clean Up

Next, it’s time to focus on cleaning your space. Start with the windows, they are often forgotten in an attic. Look to the corners for bugs, spider webs, and cobwebs. They’re a sign that your space may be under-used and they just look bad. Get those webs out of the corner and then focus on the floor. When is the last time that you did a thorough sweep/mop of vacuuming of those floors? This is the perfect chance. If you have carpet, nothing is quite as refreshing as vacuuming a room; especially in the spring. It’s like the vacuum sucks away the stale air from the winter and breathes new life into your room. Throw open those clean windows and get a little fresh air into your attic room.

Polish Up Wooden Surfaces

Finally, consider the wood on your furniture. It’s something most people forget, but if you get a wood cleaner that also offers some sort of polish or shine to it, you’ll be amazed at how much brighter the room looks. It’s a 5-minute project that will top off the chore. I promise it’s worth the effort. Consider polishing up any small tables, chairs with wooden arms/legs, and any wooden knickknacks you have lying around. As an added bonus, most wood polish has a delightfully fresh and lemony scent.

Spruce Up Your Attic With DealDash

Many people overlook their attic and are wasting valuable living space. As long as your attic is temperate you can get a lot of use out of it. Wouldn’t it be nice to set up an extra room as a study/reading room? How about as an office? There are tons of items that you can get on DealDash that will improve the look and feel of your space. One thing that will make your space warm and cozy is a new rug. Click here to see the choices. A comfortable chair can work wonders as well. Click here to see the available options. DealDash’s Spring Cleaning Series: The Garage

DealDash

Spring is just around the corner. It’s time to start thinking about spring cleaning. Today, DealDash tackles the garage.

The groundhog didn’t see his shadow this year, so spring will be here before we know it. Over the next few weeks, we will bring you a Spring Cleaning series for around the house. Our first room is the garage! Read on for some garage cleaning tips from DealDash.

Step 1: De-Clutter

Before you can clean, you need to focus on de-cluttering. Start by focusing on the trash and empty boxes and such. Throw them away, or re-purpose your boxes to make storage space for everything else.

Step 2: Use a Pile System

As you clean, you can make three piles: keep, donate, trash. I find that making these three piles helps my process. Your donate/sell pile should be gently used so that someone can enjoy using it again. Making these piles also allows me to get the rest of my family involved. Someone else can bag the trash. You can ask for some help carrying things into the house.

Once you’ve gone through these piles, you’ll be amazed at how much space you actually have. This may be the time that you remember why you were so happy to have a garage in the first place. With any luck, you’ll also be a few dollars richer from something you found and were able to sell.

Step 3: The Actual Cleaning

Now that things are less cluttered, it’s time to start cleaning. My first two points of focus are on sweeping and cleaning the corners. When I say “sweeping”, I mean that I focus on the floors. You may need a leaf blower to help with that. Regardless, get rid of the junk, dirt, and possibly leaves from the floor. Next, focus on the corners. That’s where extra dirt seems to hide. It’s also where you’re most likely to find spider webs or cobwebs. Use your broom to knock them down.

Step 4: The Details

Now you can focus on the small things. Do your windows need cleaning? (Probably) Honestly, it’s worth considering if you want to fix or paint anything at this point too. I get it- no one wants to fix up the garage, but if you’ve got the clutter gone and things are tidy, it’s the perfect time to do a repair or small upgrade.

DealDash Laundry Tips for 2020

DealDash

Get your clothes clean and smelling great. Just use these tips from DealDash!

Laundry can be a tedious process. It’s something that is a universal requirement. Everyone does the laundry, but there really aren’t any people that I know who actually enjoy doing laundry. So, we thought we’d try to offer some tips to make things a bit easier for you. Read on for ideas from DealDash.

Get a Pre-Treatment Area Set-Up

Start with a pre-treating set-up. If you have space, you can make it a separate area where you’ve got a table set up to work on things. If you’re anything like me, you don’t have that kind of space available. Instead, we have a pre-treatment shelf. This has all of the stuff that we could use to get rid of pesky stains. With that, it’s easy to find what you need. Pre-treat your clothing, leave it on the washer or dryer and throw it in with the next load that you have to do.

Take It Step-By-Step

Next, when possible, I look to divide the process up. Individually, none of the single steps of doing laundry is difficult. But when you put all of that together, it’s a process that takes hours. Instead, I try to divide it up. Start by having a way to separate your clothes; whether you have separate hampers for each thing or you have a divider that has 3 sections in one place. Depending on the load, I may also wait to fold the clothes.

Ask For Help

Also, dividing the process up doesn’t just apply to doing steps at different times. In a perfect world, I look to divide the chore up amongst multiple people. If I can throw clothes in the washer and have someone else get them to the dryer that frees my time up a bit. Another possibility (ok, dream scenario) is to have everyone pitch in on different days. In a household of 4 (2 adults and 2 age-appropriate kids/teenagers), having each person do a load of laundry each day would make this process almost pain-free.

Let DealDash Make Your Laundry Room Cozy

Finally, who wants to do laundry in a place that makes them feel uncomfortable? If your laundry room is in a dreary cold basement you can definitely improve your look on laundry by improving the space. DealDash can help you make your laundry room a cozy haven which will encourage you to spend more time there. Here is a quick list of things that you can bid or BIN (Buy It Now) from DealDash that can help:

  • A Chair – Laundry can involve a lot of sitting around and waiting. Get yourself a chair so you can relax with a book or your phone while waiting for the laundry to finish. Click here.
  • A Clock – There can be lots of steps in your laundry routine such as adding different detergent, stain fighters, softeners, etc. at certain points during the wash. A clock will help you with the timing and lower your laundry stress level. Click here.
  • A TV – Who says you can’t enjoy watching your favorite show while you’re doing the laundry? If you are washing, drying, and folding multiple loads in a day sometimes it’s easier just to stay in the laundry room while you’re waiting for a load to finish drying. Skip the boredom by getting a smaller TV to mount to the wall. It will seem like your time just flies by when you have a TV to ease your laundry boredom. Click here.
