DealDash Presents: What You Need for Baby

DealDashDealDash can help you figure out what you need for your new baby. Read on for suggestions.

In the “good old days” (like 2019!) your friends and family would throw a baby shower for new parents. However, now in the days of social distancing and less family get-togethers, there are fewer baby showers. If you’re a first-time parent, you might not know what you should buy for your new arrival. Here are some tips for getting the right things to care for your baby, from DealDash.

Get a Baby Monitor – On DealDash

To begin with, one of the most important things that I received as a gift when I was a new mom was my baby monitor. Having a baby monitor was like having a little bit of freedom while still being able to be sure that your baby doesn’t need anything. If you don’t have a baby monitor, then you won’t be able to know when your baby wakes from their nap, needs a diaper change, or is hungry. Most baby monitors have 2-way communication, as well. This is good because if your baby wakes while you can’t come immediately, like when you’re in the shower, you can at least talk or sing to them while you are finishing up so they don’t feel alone. You can find baby monitors on DealDash, just click here.

Travel System – On DealDash

Next, you will definitely need a car seat and stroller – so why not just get a travel system? A travel system includes a “baby bucket” style car seat and a stroller. The baby bucket can be transferred from the car to the stroller, and can also be carried around a store or into your home. You might wonder why you would need this – but trust me, you do! Otherwise, you will have to take your baby out of the car seat each time you get in and out of the car. And everyone knows that babies love to sleep in the car, and unbuckling them usually wakes them up and makes them unhappy. Check out the travel systems at this link here.

Baby Toys

Finally, of course your baby will need toys! The type and style are up to you, just be sure that you follow the age guidelines that are recommended. When your baby is small they will most likely enjoy stuffed animals and items that have noises like rattles or crinkles. Many people also like to get their baby a play mat so they can spend time on the floor doing “tummy time” or laying flat on their back and looking at the toy danglers above. Remember, always follow the age guidelines on the packages. Click here to see baby toys and accessories.

DealDash Kids: Caring for an Infant

Caring for an infant can be difficult, but is also very rewarding. Here are some baby care tips from DealDash.

Babies are just a joy to be around however they do take a great deal of work to take care or properly. You need to be sure to do all that you can to take care of your new arrival. Here are several things that you need to remember when you are taking care of an infant, from DealDash.

Proper Nutrition is Important

One of the first things that you need to do when taking care of a newborn is that they are getting the proper nutrition. No matter if it is breast milk or formula your child needs to be getting the proper nutrition. You will also want to introduce baby food when appropriate. An important thing to remember is not to give your newborn water. It can make them sick if they have too much. Please stick with breast milk or formula.

Baby Soft Skin

An infant’s skin is very sensitive so you need to keep that in mind when caring for them. You need to make sure that they are dressed appropriately for both indoor and outdoor conditions.

A rule of thumb that I was told by my doctor is to dress an infant in 1 more layer of clothing than you have on yourself. For example, if you have on a long sleeve shirt, then they will need that as well as an undershirt. Also, a lot of heat can escape from their head, so if you are going out or even if your house is drafty, keep them in a hat.

Babies Need Their Immunizations

You also need to make sure that you get them the age-appropriate immunizations to help keep them as healthy as possible. If you are unsure about the appropriate immunization schedule you should speak with your healthcare provider. Generally, infants are seen every 3 months until they reach 1 year old. They typically get 1 or 2 immunizations each time that they are seen by their doctor.

Bath Time is a Fun Time

Bathing your infant is also incredibly important to remember when you are taking care of them. You need to be sure that not only the water is the right temperature but that you are using non-irritating baby products for their bath. This way you will not have to deal with any skin irritations after you are done bathing your infant. If your baby has sensitive skin, aim for a bath every-other-day. For less sensitive babies, every day is fine.

Thanks for Reading

This is really only the start of the things that you should remember when taking care of an infant. You will also find that asking friends and family for help along the way especially if this is your first child is a very smart thing to do. This way you are doing all that you can to get your child’s needs met.

You also might want to think about joining a group for new parents. It can be fun and you can learn a lot as well as make some new friends. Remember, if you ever have any questions about your baby, your doctor is just a phone call away.

DealDash Helps Baby Sleep at Night

If you have a baby, you know how tough it is to get them to sleep. Here are some tips and tricks, from DealDash.

Getting your baby to sleep through the night can seem like a never ending struggle. Try as you might it often seems like there is just no way that the newest addition to your family is going to sleep all the way through until morning. It doesn’t have to be that way though, here are some tips for getting your baby to sleep through the night, from DealDash.

Don’t Rush Things

You should never rush your baby to sleep through the night. You will save yourself a lot of stress if you remember this. It can take a little time for your newborn to get their days and nights straight. This is called circadian rhythm, the body’s cellular time clock. Babies typically start out with their days and nights reversed but develop a natural sleep-wake cycle that is more in line with night and day. You need to take your time and ease your baby into sleeping until morning.

Daytime is For Eating

Making sure that your baby starts to know that day time is when they eat and night time is when they sleep will also be helpful in making sure that they sleep through the night. Definitely do not overfeed them during the day in an effort to make them sleep longer as that will just end up upsetting your baby’s stomach. Just make sure that you send them to bed with a full tummy. During the first few months of your baby’s life, they will most likely wake up to eat a few times during the night. This is normal, don’t be alarmed. If you have any concerns, please talk to your pediatrician.

Shhhhh! The Baby is Sleeping!

Creating the right environment for your baby to go to sleep is another thing that you can do to get them to sleep through the night. When it is time to go to bed make sure that you do things like turn the lights down as well as the television. You can choose to rock your baby to sleep or even play some soft and soothing music. There are mobiles that you can attach to the crib that spin and play music, or you can get a sound machine that plays projections on the ceiling. I love my noise machine projector, it has a timer on it that I can set for 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes.

Thanks for Reading

Finally, getting into a routine is one of the best things that you can do to promote a great environment for your baby to go to sleep and stay asleep all throughout the night. Before long both you and your child will be getting the rest that you need and deserve.

DealDash Gives the Baby a Bath

Image result for cute baby in tub

If you’re a new parent, or if you are a grandparent who hasn’t bathed a baby in the past 30 years you might wonder what the proper way is to bathe a baby. DealDash is here to help.

How often? What temperature? What shampoo? How long? What do I do? Are some of the questions that new parents might ask when they are faced with the challenge of bathing a baby. Most hospitals have the nurse give you a quick lesson before you leave the hospital, but let’s face it – you are still in shock from having this tiny new human in your life, along with some lingering pain, that you might not have paid as close attention as you should have. However, that’s okay. Here is a foolproof way to get your baby clean with a minimum of tears – from both of you.

The first thing that you are going to need is a vessel to bathe the baby. You can get special tubs for the baby, or an insert that fits into a large sink. However, you can also get creative and use a bucket or other large tub-like container. Personally, I got a baby bathtub and bathe my baby with the tub on the bathroom counter top between the two sinks. That way I can get fresh water from the sink tap if I need it, and the tub is up high enough that I don’t hurt my back bending over the bathtub if I had put it inside the regular tub.

Next, decide what kind of shampoo and baby wash that you are going to use. With my first two kids I used the standard yellow Johnson & Johnson baby wash/shampoo combination. However, my newest baby has extremely sensitive skin along with eczema all over him, and the regular baby shampoo just wasn’t working for him. After a trip to the dermatologist I am now using Aveeno baby bath products that have lavender and oatmeal in them. It’s up to you what kind of shampoo and baby wash that you would like to use, just keep in mind that a lot of babies have sensitive skin, so you might have to experiment a little to find one that works for them.

As to how often and what temperature…Most of these are up to you. I (and my pediatrician) suggest bathing your baby every-other day. This keeps your baby smelling fresh and clean, but won’t irritate their sensitive skin as much as bathing them every day. Of course, if they get extra dirty feel free to give them an extra bath, but try to keep it to every-other day, especially in the winter. Experts suggest that baby bath water should be between 90-100 degrees. I have a cute little octopus bath toy that has a thermometer built-in, you could also take the temperature using the regular digital thermometer. If you don’t have any of these products handy, you can just stick your wrist & inner arm under the faucet as you are running the bath. If it’s too hot or cold for your inner arm, it’s too hot or cold for the baby.

Lastly, if you have a little boy, I suggest sticking a wash cloth or a hand towel over him while you bathe him – otherwise you might get a shower, yourself!

DealDash Sews a Minky Blanket

Image result for minky blanket

Minky is one of the softest fabrics that you can use. Minky is a very common fabric to make into baby blankets, and here is one very easy blanket that you can sew yourself.

I absolutely love to sew. I make anything and everything, from baby bibs to dresses to baby blankets. I love to make patchwork quilts, but they are just too time consuming if you want to whip up a quick baby blanket for a gift at a baby shower. Making a blanket from minky and printed cotton is a quick and easy project that you can complete in a weekend – or less if you don’t have any interruptions!

Image result for minky blanketMaterials:

  • 1 yard of minky fabric, any color that coordinates with your printed cotton
  • 1 yard of printed cotton that coordinates with your minky fabric
  • 1 yard of batting, your choice of thickness
  • About 200 inches of bias or binding tape – Please note that 1 yard of fabric is always 36 inches long, but the width usually varies between 32 and 60 inches. Most fabrics are available in widths of 45 inches and 60 inches. So depending on the particular fabric that you have selected for your project the width can vary. So please measure your fabric to figure out how much binding that you need.
  • Notions (thread, scissors, pins, fabric chalk or marker, etc.)

  1. Lay your printed cotton fabric pattern side down on a clean and clear area of the floor.
  2. Lay your batting on top of the fabric, matching up all of the edges
  3. Lay your minky fabric on top, with the little nubbies face up
  4. Pin all around the edges – I put my pins about 5-6 inches apart
  5. If you would like, you can draw a pattern on the blanket that you can sew, such as swirls or whatever you feel comfortable with doing. If you don’t want to do that extra step, then you can just sew through the blanket from one edge to the other, twice vertically, and twice horizontally. This is just to make sure that the inner batting doesn’t move or get bunched up when you’re using it.
  6. Trim around the edges to even everything up, and then zigzag stitch or serge around all of the edges
  7. Pin your bias tape/ binding all the way around your blanket
  8. Sew the bias tape/binding onto the blanket
  9. All done!

Wasn’t that easy?! I am in the process of making one for my little 7 month old baby, his nursery is nautical patterned, heavy on the whales. I couldn’t find a blanket that I liked that had whales and was soft enough for a baby blanket, so I decided to make my own.

DealDash has great sewing machines up for bid. DealDash has both of the most popular brands, Singer and Brother. Get yourself a new sewing machine on DealDash. Just click this link right here and it will take you to DealDash. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!
