DealDash Crafts: Valentine’s Day Creativity

DealDash

Valentine’s Day is the perfect holiday to put your creativity to good use. DealDash has some great ideas, so read this article and get creative!

Valentine’s Day is approaching quickly. While everyone focuses on a romantic relationship, I like to make sure the kids are able to celebrate as well. We focus on making simple crafts that the kids can complete independently. These can be for decoration or gifts for their loved ones. Read on for some fun ideas from DealDash.

Heart Garland

One of our go-to crafts is homemade heart garland. It’s a bit of a play on the candy hearts that you can buy in the store. We cut construction paper into hearts and then string them together. I like to add a quick phrase or note that resembles what you’ll find on those candied hearts. It’s simple and makes for a great decoration or a quick gift.

Accordion Card

Another favorite requires a bit more work. It’s called an accordion card. You start by cutting a 1 inch wide strip of construction paper and fold it into an accordion. On each square that you’ve made, you write a letter to spell out “this much”. Then cut out the shape of a hand. We like to trace our hands. Finally, attach one hand on each side of the accordion. On the “front” hand, write “I love you”. In the end, the card reads “I love you this much” and as the person opens the card, the hands spread further apart.

Heart Person

Following the accordion idea, we like to make a heart-figure. It’s something simple but cute. First, we cut out a heart shape and draw a face on it. My kids love to use googly eyes rather than drawing eyes. We make an accordion fold on 4 strips of paper. I typically aim for about ½ inch wide. Then add small hearts that function as the hands and feet of the heart. It can be a craft on its own or you can write a note on the back to make it function as a card or gift.

DealDash Kids: Encouraging a Love for Reading

DealDash

My kids love reading, and I hope yours do, too. If not, here are some helpful suggestions from DealDash to encourage their love for reading.

In today’s age, it’s easy for kids to be too involved with their TV and their video games. It’s important to try to build your child’s interest in reading. It can help with learning, problem-solving, and building imagination and creativity. Read these helpful suggestions from DealDash to get you started.

Read to Them Daily at a Young Age

First, the best way to instill reading in young children is to start reading them stories at a young age. While young children have a lot of energy, reading a story before bed is a perfect transition to get ready for sleep. When you prepare to read a story, let your children have some say. Ask them if they want a specific story or if they want “a surprise”. Calling the story that you pick a surprise will add to the allure. I don’t know about your kids, but mine typically go for the surprise!

Let Bigger Kids Choose the Books at the Store

Next, letting your children pick the stories that they read is important at all times. In other words, as your child gets older, let them choose books at the store. You’ll find that this can build their interest as they’ll develop a preference for a style or a character. Of course, they might enjoy a few suggestions from mom or dad. My daughter loves to hear about the books I read when I was her age.

Encourage Creativity

Also, something else that I’ve found to be key is encouraging your child. At some point, there will be some benefit to correcting as a child in is reading, but at the earliest stages, let them create their story. My nieces used to love telling a story based on the pictures that they saw over time, they would start to memorize the story that I was reading and then retell it from memory.

I love bringing art into the picture as a way to help encourage reading. I frequently draw a picture and ask my children to write a quick story, or have them do the same for me. It’s something that works for kids who are getting older but offers a connection. The key here is to be sure that what you’re doing doesn’t feel like work. If your child gets bogged down, you can have them tell you a story and then draw the picture and write it out.

DealDash Can Help Organize Kid’s Books

Finally, you can encourage your kids to expand their palette and read new things by keeping the books neat and organized. When you keep them in a pile or a stack on a random shelf they tend to pick whichever one is on the top. By organizing them nicely on their very own bookcase your kids will take pride in their book collection. To find kid’s bookshelves on DealDash, just click here. To see more choices, browse the Home, Garden, and Tools category on DealDash. Click here! Please remember, DealDash is only for adults. The DealDash services are offered and may only be used by persons over the age of 18.

Thanks for Reading

An important note is that a key part of reading that is often forgotten is having an imagination. Always encourage your child’s imagination. It’s like a muscle that needs exercise. Without imagination, a child can’t see the “picture” that comes from the words. Those pictures are what makes a story interesting. Thanks for reading the newest blog!

DealDash Kids: Help Your Child Find a Hobby

DealDash

Kids feel happier and more fulfilled when they have a hobby they love. Here are some suggestions from DealDash to help you navigate the choices.

There are a ton of reasons you should help your child find a hobby. It can be tricky for them to choose since there are so many great hobbies out there to choose from. Choosing a hobby they love while they are young can bring a lifetime of fulfillment. Read on for some hobby suggestions from DealDash.

What Do They Love to Play?

Firstly, a good way to help your child to choose a hobby is to pick something that they love to play and expand upon it. For example, if your child likes to play “kitchen” then you can introduce them to cooking and baking. If your child love to play with dollhouses, then a great hobby to show them would be making miniatures for their dollhouse. A hobby is definitely a great way for your child to build up their self-esteem.  This will come as they gain proficiency in their new hobby.

Think About Their Personality

Next, a way to help them choose a hobby is to think about their personality. Are they outdoorsy or more the indoor type? Do they love physical activity and sports or do they prefer reading and quiet activities? For example, a great hobby for an active outdoorsy child would be hiking or gardening. A fine hobby for a quiet child who prefers the indoors could be writing poetry or painting.

An added benefit of choosing a hobby to match their personality is that they will soon gain new friends who like the same hobby. You will see that having a hobby will give your child something to talk about and a reason to interact with other people who share similar interests. Even if your child chooses a more solitary hobby like knitting or crochet there are meet-ups and clubs for just about any hobby they pick.

Get Hobby Supplies from DealDash

Finally, a wonderful way to save money on your child’s new hobby is by getting supplies on DealDash. There are many items that can help your child further their hobby, but remember, DealDash is only for adults. The DealDash services are offered and may only be used by persons over the age of 18. For example, a child who chooses photography will be thrilled if you win an auction or BIN (Buy It Now) them a new camera. Click here to see cameras and accessories. DealDash Family: Indoor Winter Fun

DealDash

With the fun and excitement of the holidays over, your family might be complaining of boredom. No problem, DealDash has some ideas for fun places to go when it’s cold out.

Let’s face it, the younger members of your family have probably already gotten tired of the mountain of toys that they unwrapped just a few weeks ago. The mall can be fun, but you can only go there so many times. Read on for some fun places from DealDash to go that won’t have your family saying “I’m borrrred!”

The Arcade

Going to the arcade might seem like a very old idea to those of us who grew up in the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. However, the kids of today still like going to the arcade – especially if your arcade does a ticket/prize swap. For the younger kids, there are some games that you might be familiar with as an app on your phone, for older kids, there are games such as basketball and giant Connect Four, and for us Gen X and Y’ers, there are classic video games. When my family was on vacation this past summer to Utah, they even had nickel arcades! You can have a lot of fun with just a few dollars.

The Aquarium

Next, the aquarium is one of my family’s favorite activities. Most medium-sized cities have one, and they are usually reasonably priced. We like the aquarium so much that we always buy a yearly pass so we can go as many times as we want for free throughout the year. Typically, if you plan on going to the aquarium at least three times per year then buying the yearly pass makes good financial sense. The aquarium is another place that can be fun for the whole family from kids to seniors. My mother-in-law always enjoys going with us when she is in town. Just be sure to do the math to see if buying a yearly pass makes sense financially.

Jumpy Places

Jumpy places have been popping up all over the place in my area. These are places that have indoor trampolines, big “pools” full of foam, and air-filled structures for kids to climb, slide, and play on. This is the only place on the list that I have included that the adults in the family might not enjoy. However, depending on the facility, usually, the adults are allowed to jump on the trampolines, too.

Want to Stay Home? Get Activities on DealDash

Finally, if you are the type of person who prefers to stay home when the weather is bad, then DealDash has a solution. There are plenty of fun things on DealDash that can be won in auction or BINned (Buy It Now) afterward. You will find things like slot car racing sets, Legos, video game systems, and board games. Click here to check out one of my favorite categories – Toys, Hobbies, Outdoors, and Games.  You will find all of the activities that I mentioned and so many more! DealDash Kids: Fun Places to Go When it’s Cold Out

DealDash

Depending on where you are, winter might be in full force. It even snowed a bit here over the weekend! Kids still need to play, here are a few ideas from DealDash to help.

As it gets colder out, it can be difficult to find fun activities for your children. While playing in the snow can be fun, it can quickly become too much for your youngsters. We wanted to offer some alternative ideas that can make a snow day perfect. Read on for some great suggestions from DealDash.

Indoor Exercise

If you’re looking to burn some energy, find a local bowling alley or skating rink to go to. Using the bumpers at the bowling alley will make it fun for the whole family. It will also give your child a sense of accomplishment knowing that he/she was able to knock the pins down consistently. Roller skating, on the other hand, can be difficult, but it offers the opportunity for a full-body exercise and is sure to burn a ton of energy.

Crafts are Always a Hit

If you’re looking for something a little calmer, consider taking a snow day to learn a new craft. Everyone knows that you can go to the local library to find books, but most people don’t realize that the library offers a ton of classes. You may also want to consider the local craft store. You may luck out and find that they’re offering classes on knitting, crocheting, etc.

Walk the Mall

Another low-impact exercise opportunity is going to the local mall. Ideally, you can window shop rather than buying toys, but the opportunity to walk inside is tough to beat. Most malls also have play areas where you can relax while your little one runs around.

Toys and Games From DealDash

You don’t always have to go somewhere, why not have fun in your own home? This can be easily accomplished with a little help from DealDash. Take a peek at the Hobbies, Toys, Outdoors, and Games category. Here you will find fun things like race cars and Lego sets, toys you can ride on (try in the basement!), and board games. These things are perfect for days when it’s just too yucky to go outside.

Thanks for Reading

Finally, consider making someone else feel good while it’s cold outside. If your child is old enough, go to a local kennel or even a pet shop. See if you can volunteer to walk the animals or even pull them out to play with them. It’s a great stress reliever, and you’ll be able to offer some love to an animal that seems to be forgotten.

Thanks for reading, and remember to check DealDash for awesome indoor toys. Have a great day, and happy bidding, everyone!
