DealDash Holiday: Plan an Easter Party

DealDash

Easter is coming, and now is the perfect time to begin planning your family’s Easter celebration. DealDash can help.

Planning a fun Easter celebration is something you should do for your family if you have young children. It’s easy and fun to make a plan for your family to be able to enjoy this holiday. Here are a few suggestions for planning a lively Easter celebration, from DealDash.

Everyone’s Favorite – The Egg Hunt

Firstly, you will want to plan an Easter egg hunt. If you only have one child coming to your celebration, then you don’t have to worry about making sure everyone finds some eggs, but if you have multiple children you should assign each child a specific color of egg. This way each child will be able to find the same amount of eggs. This is especially important if you have a wide range of ages participating. You wouldn’t want the big kids to swoop through and find all of the eggs before the toddlers and preschool kids are able to find any.

Crafts Will Be a Hit

Kids love to do crafts, and they are a nice way to keep them occupied for a little while so the adults get a break. As my husband likes to say – keep it simple. There’s no need to plan out anything too elaborate, so plan some simple Easter crafts for the kids. Of course, you will need to plan for the different ages of kids participating. For the toddlers, this can be something as simple as bunny coloring pages, and for the older kids, you should consider getting a few craft kits from the craft store. This is a great way for to kids to make something to remember the celebration.

Party Outside if Possible

Parties that have kids involved are always better outside if the weather is nice. You will have less clean-up to do after, and they will be able to get out some energy out and be louder than they would be able to be inside. Be sure to have outdoor games planned for the kids. Consider making a “pin the tail on the bunny” game, have a table and ingredients set up for them to make slime, and have water guns and bubbles available. The kids will have a blast and there will be a minimal mess to clean up.

DealDash Spring Cleaning Series: The Attic Room

DealDash

Welcome back to the next room in DealDash’s Spring Cleaning Series: The Attic. Read this article, then get cleaning!

The next in our Spring Cleaning series is the attic. This room probably doesn’t get a lot of use, but it should be cleaned at least once per year. Spring is the perfect time to make that happen. For the purposes of this article, we’re focused on an attic that is another room. Most of what we say won’t apply to an attic that is full of insulation and, essentially, used as storage. Read on for some great suggestions, from DealDash.

De-Clutter and Re-Organize

Start with a focus on de-cluttering and planning on where that stuff is going to go. When you first moved into your house, everything in this attic had its place. Try to restore some of that organization. I find that having boxes with descriptive labels has been incredibly helpful.

Give Your Items New Life – Donate!

Some of those things don’t need a place of their own anymore; at least not at your house. Can you make any donations? Is there something that you haven’t used in years? Maybe you thought you could fix that lamp and it just hasn’t happened yet. Don’t be afraid to sell, donate, or throw out the things that are filling your basement.

Let’s Clean Up

Next, it’s time to focus on cleaning your space. Start with the windows, they are often forgotten in an attic. Look to the corners for bugs, spider webs, and cobwebs. They’re a sign that your space may be under-used and they just look bad. Get those webs out of the corner and then focus on the floor. When is the last time that you did a thorough sweep/mop of vacuuming of those floors? This is the perfect chance. If you have carpet, nothing is quite as refreshing as vacuuming a room; especially in the spring. It’s like the vacuum sucks away the stale air from the winter and breathes new life into your room. Throw open those clean windows and get a little fresh air into your attic room.

Polish Up Wooden Surfaces

Finally, consider the wood on your furniture. It’s something most people forget, but if you get a wood cleaner that also offers some sort of polish or shine to it, you’ll be amazed at how much brighter the room looks. It’s a 5-minute project that will top off the chore. I promise it’s worth the effort. Consider polishing up any small tables, chairs with wooden arms/legs, and any wooden knickknacks you have lying around. As an added bonus, most wood polish has a delightfully fresh and lemony scent.

Spruce Up Your Attic With DealDash

Many people overlook their attic and are wasting valuable living space. As long as your attic is temperate you can get a lot of use out of it. Wouldn’t it be nice to set up an extra room as a study/reading room? How about as an office? There are tons of items that you can get on DealDash that will improve the look and feel of your space. One thing that will make your space warm and cozy is a new rug. Click here to see the choices. A comfortable chair can work wonders as well. Click here to see the available options. DealDash Cooks: Adding More Veggies to Meals

DealDash

Everyone knows that vegetables are one of the healthiest things that you can eat. Not everyone loves them. DealDash can help.

All people want to be healthy, and eating vegetables is a great way to start. However, they aren’t everyone’s favorite. Getting more vegetables into your meals can seem like a tough task. Here are some suggestions from DealDash that will help you get more vegetables into your meals.

Involve the Family in Meal Planning

You can involve the whole family in planning the meals. If you aren’t a big fan of vegetables you might not think your family will either. However, you might be surprised at what your family might like to try. This is a great way to get the family’s input on what vegetables they like and might even serve as an encouragement for you to eat them yourself. Another great reason to get the entire family involved with meal planning is you won’t end up with a lot of uneaten food if you accidentally made a vegetable that no one in your family likes to eat.

Try Different Stores and Markets

Going to a farmer’s market is another way to discover new and different vegetables that you might not have tried before. Many times there are samples offered so you can experiment with different veggies and their flavors without the commitment of purchasing them only to discover you really don’t like the taste.

Another great reason to go to the farmer’s market is to pick up some new recipes and ideas for cooking and serving the vegetables. If you come across a few vegetables that you like but have never cooked before you can ask the person at the stand for some guidance on how to cook them.

If you don’t have a farmer’s market near you, or if the weather is preventing it, no problem. You can simply try going to a few different grocery stores than you typically visit and check out their fruit and vegetable section. You will probably find a few things that you don’t see in the store that you normally visit.

Still Not a Fan? Make Sauce!

I will be the first to admit that I am not a big fan of many vegetables. Personally, I prefer to just eat a salad to get my nutrients in. However, my family doesn’t want to have a salad every night, so I try to get creative and incorporate different vegetables into meals. I have found that the easiest way to make vegetables taste better is to make a sauce or a dip for them. Obviously, this isn’t as healthy as just adding a little salt and pepper, but over time you can use less sauce. This is a great way to get your family to eat vegetables that they wouldn’t normally even try. Just make certain that they are not eating more dip or sauce than vegetables!

DealDash’s Spring Cleaning Series: The Garage

DealDash

Spring is just around the corner. It’s time to start thinking about spring cleaning. Today, DealDash tackles the garage.

The groundhog didn’t see his shadow this year, so spring will be here before we know it. Over the next few weeks, we will bring you a Spring Cleaning series for around the house. Our first room is the garage! Read on for some garage cleaning tips from DealDash.

Step 1: De-Clutter

Before you can clean, you need to focus on de-cluttering. Start by focusing on the trash and empty boxes and such. Throw them away, or re-purpose your boxes to make storage space for everything else.

Step 2: Use a Pile System

As you clean, you can make three piles: keep, donate, trash. I find that making these three piles helps my process. Your donate/sell pile should be gently used so that someone can enjoy using it again. Making these piles also allows me to get the rest of my family involved. Someone else can bag the trash. You can ask for some help carrying things into the house.

Once you’ve gone through these piles, you’ll be amazed at how much space you actually have. This may be the time that you remember why you were so happy to have a garage in the first place. With any luck, you’ll also be a few dollars richer from something you found and were able to sell.

Step 3: The Actual Cleaning

Now that things are less cluttered, it’s time to start cleaning. My first two points of focus are on sweeping and cleaning the corners. When I say “sweeping”, I mean that I focus on the floors. You may need a leaf blower to help with that. Regardless, get rid of the junk, dirt, and possibly leaves from the floor. Next, focus on the corners. That’s where extra dirt seems to hide. It’s also where you’re most likely to find spider webs or cobwebs. Use your broom to knock them down.

Step 4: The Details

Now you can focus on the small things. Do your windows need cleaning? (Probably) Honestly, it’s worth considering if you want to fix or paint anything at this point too. I get it- no one wants to fix up the garage, but if you’ve got the clutter gone and things are tidy, it’s the perfect time to do a repair or small upgrade.

DealDash Vacay: Planning Your Spring Break

DealDash

It’s time to start thinking about spring break. DealDash is here to help you plan some ideas.

Spring break is on its way. While we realize that doesn’t mean the same thing to everyone, we like to think of it as a good way to reset ourselves and prepare for all that spring has to offer. Spring break is the beginning of budding flowers and trees. It’s the beginning of the warmer weather that we all enjoy. So, we want to focus on a few options that could allow you to enjoy Spring break even more. Read on for some suggestions from DealDash.

Mini Vacay Time!

Try taking a mini-vacation. When people think of Spring break, they think of the beaches in California or Florida. They’re too expensive and, honestly, who wants to deal with all of the college parties? I’d much rather find something quiet for my family to enjoy. Look for something a little closer to home. You can go a state away and find a city that allows you to be a tourist.

Want to Travel a Little Further?

If you’re really set on traveling for Spring break, consider alternate warm locations. While everyone thinks of the beaches, how many people think of going to Utah or Nevada? If you don’t have any kids to worry about, you can try Vegas. If you’re looking for something more family-friendly, try going to Utah and seeing all of the parks and monuments. Spend time taking pictures or hiking. You’ll be amazed at how much quieter it is when you move inland rather than toward the oceans.

Learn a New Skill or Craft

Try learning something new this Spring break. You could focus on a craft like making your own jewelry or scrapbooking. If you have children, another great option may be learning a new sport. Nothing will help build confidence in your child-like learning how to play baseball next to them. If your child already plays a sport, let them teach you how to play. It will build knowledge, confidence, and it will help bring you closer.

Get Fun Outdoor Activities on DealDash

Now that spring is on its way you will be able to go outside and get some fresh air and sunshine pretty soon. You will be able to do some fun outdoor activities in the next month or two. DealDash‘s Hobbies, Toys, Outdoors, and Games category is an excellent place to fun and exciting outdoor activities. DealDash has sports equipment, bikes, and toys.
