DealDash’s Red, White & Blue Treats Kids Can Help Make

Happy 4th of July, DealDashers! I hope that you and your family have a wonderful holiday!

When the 4th of July rolls around, our kitchen turns into a little red, white, and blue workshop! Between backyard barbecues and firework festivities, we always carve out some time to make patriotic treats that are as fun to prepare as they are to eat. The best part? The kids get to join in on the action with messy hands, big smiles, and all! Read on for some ideas for delicious treats from DealDash.

Firecracker Fruit Kabobs

These are always a hit with my crew, both to make and to munch! We use wooden skewers and alternate strawberries, blueberries, and banana slices to create festive stripes. Sometimes we even get fancy and cut the bananas into star shapes using a small cookie cutter. It’s a healthy option amid all the sweets, and little hands can easily assemble their own kabobs. You can even put them in the freezer for a cool treat on an extra hot day.

Flag Cookie Pizza

This one gets rave reviews every year and is perfect for a hot July day! We start with a sugar cookie crust (store-bought dough works just fine) – form into a large cookie or pie crust shape, then layer on a whipped cream cheese frosting. The fun comes with decorating: blueberries for the “stars” section, and stripes made from sliced strawberries and more banana rounds. Each of my kids takes a section to design, which turns it into a true team effort.

Star-Spangled Pretzel Rods

These are as easy as they come, and perfect for tiny decorators. Simply melt white chocolate and let the kids dip pretzel rods about halfway in. Then comes the sprinkle fun. Use red, white, and blue stars or sparkles to make them look like festive little sparklers. Then let them cool on parchment paper. I usually sneak a few before they’ve even hardened completely!
