Everyone knows that you should be brushing twice per day and flossing once, but what other dental chores have we been skipping? Let’s find out.
Since childhood we have all been told to brush in the morning and before bed brush and floss, but did you know that you could be doing more for your dental health? You should actually be brushing after every single meal. Yes, you should be taking a travel toothbrush to work with you and brushing after lunch. As crazy as that sounds, if you were to brush after every meal you are significantly less likely to have any cavities at your next dental check up.
If you don’t have time to brush after every meal then perhaps you could compromise with swishing your mouth with mouthwash, or even just chewing a piece of sugar-free gum after your lunch. Though it might sound counterintuitive to chew gum for your oral health it actually makes sense if you know the science behind it; Chewing gum increases the flow of saliva into the mouth. This neutralises and dilutes the acid that swirls around after the breakdown of food by bacteria that normally live around your teeth and gums. These acids typically stick around in the mouth for 20 minutes after eating. Just make sure that your gum is sugar-free and you can feel good about contributing to your good oral health by chewing gum.
You should also having regular dental exams. The average is twice per year in six month intervals. The dentist can clean your teeth well by scraping the plaque off, and checking for any small issues before they turn into big problems. Most dental insurance plans cover bi-annual visits.
There are a few products that can significantly increase your oral hygiene, and those are a quality electric toothbrush and a waterpik. I personally prefer the Sonicare toothbrush for myself, but my husband loves his Oral-B. It’s all about preference, go ahead and go to DealDash and check out the toothbrushes and water flossers at this link right here and get yourself on the road to excellent oral health. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!
