DealDash

Red spider mites on your plants can be a pain! Here are some tips, tricks, and ideas to get rid of them, from DealDash.

Spider mites are tiny pests that can infest your plants and can be quite difficult to destroy. Mites cling to the bottom of the plant’s leaves on many different types of plants. These red spider mites live by sucking the nutrients out of the leaves. This can cause the leaves to dry out and die, which spells doom for your plants. Once you’ve identified a red spider mite infestation on your plants, you’re in for a battle. Here are some tips and ideas from DealDash to get rid of these red spider mites in a more natural way.

Figure Out if You Have Red Mites

Firstly, you need to figure out if you have red spider mites. Some signs that you might have red spider mites include: yellow, tan, or white spots on the leaves, tiny white or red spots on the leaves that move (these are the spider mites, and white, cottony webbing that appears on the underside of the leaves. Once you have determined that you have red spider mites then it’s time to get rid of them. You could use poison, but why not try some more natural methods first?

Treat the Red Mites

First, immediately take the infected plants to an area without any other plants. This will prevent the spider mites from spreading and infesting your other plants.

After removing the plants, it’s time to begin pruning the plant. Remove any stems, leaves, or other infested parts of the plant and throw in the trash. Don’t just throw them out in the yard, be sure to put them in the garbage. Otherwise, you might infest your other plants.

Next, spray your plant down with water, and then spray on a solution of baby shampoo and cooking oil in a 1:1 ratio of Tablespoons. If you’re just spraying one single plant then you only need 1 Tablespoon of each. Spray plants thoroughly, repeating every four to seven days until spider mites appear gone.

Finally, to prevent future red spider mite attacks I recommend giving them the special spray once per week until you are 100% sure that they have been eradicated from your garden.
