DealDash Makes Snow Ice Cream

DealDash Snow Ice Cream

I can think of 3 good things about snow – snow days, snowmen, and snow ice cream.

Have you ever had snow ice cream? As someone who grew up in North Carolina, I had never even heard of it until I went on a trip to Ohio. I saw more snow during my 4 days in Ohio than I had seen in my whole 17 years of life. This was when I was introduced to the “snow slushy,” which was really just snow with 7-UP poured on top. Living in Massachusetts, my tastes have become a little more refined, hence the snow ice cream.

What is It?

Truthfully, it’s really not that much more difficult to make than the snow slushy, and requires only 5 basic ingredients. However, as with most ice creams, you can get as creative as you like with different ingredients. Here is the recipe for the basic snow ice cream.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup milk
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (Keep this in the fridge for about an hour before use)
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 8 cups clean snow

I cannot stress enough that this needs to be clean snow. My suggestion to you is to capture some fresh snow as it’s falling with a large mixing bowl. You can put this bowl somewhere on your porch, deck, or front steps, and keep an eye on it as it’s filling up with snow.

Directions:

  1. Using a large bowl, pour the milk, granulated sugar, vanilla, and salt together and whisk. Make sure the bowl is large enough and made of light plastic to minimize any heat transfer.
  2. Measure out 8 cups of clean snow and mix it immediately with the vanilla milk mixture. Do this very quickly, and preferably outside since you don’t want the snow to melt.
  3. Mix until you have your desired consistency of ice cream. If you don’t want to eat it immediately, put it in the freezer to chill.

Really, it’s that easy. There are many other ingredients that you can mix in with the basic recipe to make even more exotic and delicious. Here are a few ideas:

  • Peppermint extract
  • Chocolate syrup
  • Chocolate cocoa mixture
  • Strawberry syrup or real strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • Peanut butter
  • Marshmallow fluff
