Cleaning a fish tank can be a lot of work. Here are some pointers from DealDash to help you.

Owning a pet can be a lot of responsibility. One of the easiest pets to own is a fish. You don’t have to walk them or worry about training them, but it is important to keep their fish tank clean.  Keeping your fish tank clean will keep your fish clean and healthy. Algae and other toxic residues can build up and cause pollution to your fish tank. Here are some tips on how to clean your fish tank, from DealDash.

Gather All of Your Supplies

The first step is to gather all of your supplies so you can clean out the fish tank the right way. You will need things such as paper towels, toothbrush, water that is dechlorinated, large container and a fish net. It is also good to have a smaller fish tank on hand. You can get these items from your local big box store or the pet store. Having all of these items stored together in a bucket can make fish tank cleaning go much faster since you won’t have to search around for all of your supplies.

Remove Items and Fish

The next step is to remove all of the decorative pieces and filters from the tank.  Then you can remove your fish. You should put your fish in the smaller tank by using a fish net. Make sure that there is a lot of water in the tank for your fish. It is also important to turn off anything that is electrical so you will be safe as you clean out the tank. Keep the paper towels on hand, because this can get a little messy.

Clean the Tank and Items

When you are cleaning out your fish tank you should use a paper towel to clean the inside of it. Soap can be harmful to your fish, so be sure to use dechlorinated water you should use a toothbrush to clean the decorative items and rocks. When you are done you should fill the tank with water and move it around and rinse it out. After you re-fill the tank be sure to test the temperature of the water to make sure that it’s okay for your fishy friends. If it’s too chilly be sure to wait a bit for the fish tank heater to warm it up for you.
