DealDash Saves Your Sweaters
Everyone who has accidentally ruined a sweater, raise your hand…I admit it, I have ruined quite a few sweaters before I learned how to care for them properly. Let DealDash help you save your sweaters.
If you’re wondering how to properly care for your sweaters, you’re in the right place. Now that we are in the cold wintry January weather I bet most of you have brought out your sweaters and are wearing them frequently. Sweaters are great! They are warm, cozy, comfortable, stylish, but also difficult to clean without ruining them. Here is a quick primer from DealDash on how to keep your sweaters in tip-top shape this winter so you can enjoy them again next winter.
Ditch the Pills
If you were to walk down the sweater aisle of your local thrift shop, you will see dozens upon dozens of perfectly good sweaters with a minor problem – pills! You can get rid of those pesky pills with either a battery operated fabric shaver, a de- fuzzing comb, or even a razor! These little sweater-savers will eliminate your pills when they appear.
Don’t be alarmed at the pills – both high-quality and low-quality knits will almost always pill at some point. If you can get into a habit of de-fuzzing your sweaters as soon as they come out of storage for the season it will make your life go more smoothly. Once you’re done with the sweaters for the season give them a quick once-over with the de-fuzzer of your choice and pack them away. Easy!
Wash Them Carefully!
I never dry clean anything, and most sweaters say dry clean only. I purchased the Dryell at-home wash, but it’s really just easier to hand wash. The directions are simple, but make sure you do a little of research on the fabric content of your sweater before you do anything. Here are the easy directions for hand-washing your sweater:
- Starting with a clean sink, fill your sink up with water and add a mild detergent. They make special “sweater detergents,” but I personally just use a bit of Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo to wash mine.
- Being gentle, agitate any stains as well as the underarms with your hands, then let it soak for 5-10 minutes.
- Rinse thoroughly with cool water, then roll the sweater up in a bath towel to get most of the water out, but be sure not to wring it out.
- Lay the sweater flat to dry. Do not hang on a hanger to dry, this will distort the shoulders. Personal experience speaking here!
