DealDash Kids: Tips for Studying at Home

DealDash

When kids are doing schoolwork at home concentration is very important. DealDash has some tips for concentration while studying at home.

Staying focused is a key part of being able to do schoolwork at home effectively. Taking some time to practice focusing can be a helpful exercise for the mind. It’s very important for a child to be able to concentrate if you want them to be successful when they study. Here are some suggestions from DealDash.

Tips for Concentration and Focus at Home

  • Set up a dedicated study area. The study area must be quiet and without distractions such as younger siblings, TV, or smartphones. This is especially important for an older child who has their own phone and has frequent notifications and texts.
  • Have a regular schedule. Having a regular schedule doesn’t mean that you have to keep “school hours”, though. Personally, I am enjoying not having to get up so early in the morning. We get up and have breakfast, then start schoolwork around 10AM. We take a short lunch break, and then do schoolwork until 2PM, followed by independent reading. Following this is an “elective” such as sewing, cooking, or art.
  • Make sure your child is getting between 8 and 9 hours of sleep each night. Your child’s concentration won’t be at it’s best if they are tired.
  • Take short breaks. I like to let the kids take a quick 5-minute break whenever they are starting to get a little antsy. A quick break can renew their concentration, especially if they use the time to grab a healthy snack such as a fruit cup or banana.

DealDash: School Shut Down? Entertain the Kids

DealDash

All around the USA schools are temporarily closing to stop the spread of germs. DealDash has some ideas to help entertain your kids.

Many schools are closing as a precautionary measure against the spread of germs. For example, all schools in Massachusetts are temporarily closed until April 7th (at least). Having your kids home unexpectedly for 3 weeks can be a strain, on all of you. Follow these suggestions from DealDash and make your time go a little easier.

DealDash Has Legos for Boys and Girls

First, let’s talk about Legos. Almost everyone young and old, girls and boys, enjoy playing and building with Legos. When your whole family is home together for the next few weeks Legos can be something that the whole family can share and enjoy together. Also, there are different types and styles of Legos,  with both sets and loose pieces available on DealDash as well.

Do you have younger kids? Not a problem – there are Lego sets for younger children, as well. If your child is too young for regular Legos try the Duplo blocks. Also, DealDash has both Legos and Duplo blocks available for auction. As a result, you can get a new Lego set and watch the boredom melt away.

Use the Internet to Help Your Child Learn a Skill

Next, a great thing about being stuck indoors is that you can use that time to help your child learn a new skill. Also, no matter what skill they want to learn, from playing the piano to drawing to folding origami, there are free tutorials online. Just today my daughter watched two different ukelele tutorials online, and is well on her way to learning how to play “You Are My Sunshine”. Also, some people are visual learners and some prefer to read the directions themselves. Figure out which way your child prefers, and help them find tutorials online.

Give Them a Job

Finally, busy kids aren’t bored! Depending on the age and skill level of your kids you can assign them a few jobs to complete around the house. Personally, I like the “Chore Bucket” way to assign chores. The way to do a chore bucket is to write down the jobs you need to be done on slips of paper. You can also assign each chore either a monetary or point value. Each child can choose which chore they would like to complete out of the choices in the bucket.

After completing the chore that they picked they receive either the amount of money or the points that were written on the slip. The idea is that they can save up the points to use for something they would like to do or experience. For example, you could say that they could use 5 points to stay up an extra half hour at bedtime. For instance, I like to write everyone’s money and points that they have earned on our whiteboard and do a pay-out at the end of the week.

I hope these suggestions will give you some ideas on how to keep your kids busy on their unexpected break from school. Try one of these tips or all of them at different times. Regardless of which one you choose your child will be entertained. However, these suggestions are just the beginning to entertaining your kids. DealDash’s Spring Cleaning Series: Baby’s Bedroom

DealDash

Welcome back to DealDash’s newest series – Spring Cleaning! Today’s new article is all about cleaning the baby’s bedroom.

Depending on what part of the country you’re in, spring is either coming or it has already arrived. It doesn’t seem like winter ever showed its head, but it’s still time for spring cleaning. The next part of our series is addressing the baby’s room. Read on for some super suggestions from DealDash.

Look for Unused Pieces

It’s a room that is often forgotten, but with a baby constantly growing, it can get overcrowded pretty quickly. First, start by getting rid of anything that you obviously don’t need anymore. Is your baby in pull-ups now? Maybe you should get rid of that changing table. Don’t use that baby monitor anymore? Donate it! Never sit in the rocking chair? Relocate it, store it, or donate it.

They Grow so Quickly…

Next, start making piles of outgrown clothing. Your baby probably has plenty of clothes that are too small. Figure out what you can donate or sell, what needs to be thrown away, and what you could repurpose into rags to use for cleaning.

Too Many Outgrown Toys

After clothes, you can start focusing on the toys that you’ve got. If there’s something that you’re baby never plays with, it’s okay to donate or pass to a friend’s baby. We understand that someone put time, effort, and thought into that toy, but if it’s just taking up space and collecting dust, why not donate it so that another child can actually enjoy it?

Maybe you’ve got some toys that are still a little too advanced for your child. Again, there’s nothing wrong with that, but it’s probably safe to put those toys away in a closet or even in the attic for a bit. You can pull them back out when you’re ready.

Focus on Organization

Finally, focus on trying to get organized again. There is probably a lot going on and things in the baby’s room may have gotten a little chaotic. Take a few minutes to figure out what’s working and what isn’t. Shelves may be great. I typically prefer using drawers or boxes. It lets me toss things in the right place without taking as much time to make sure it looks perfect.

DealDash Pets: Basic Bunny Pointers

Spring is coming! You can see trees and flowers comes to life, you can start getting outside more often, and you can find baby rabbits everywhere if you’re interested in a new family pet. Read on for pointers from DealDash.

For starters, please do your homework before purchasing any pets. We realize that this article is probably part of that process, but we wanted to take a moment to point out the obvious. Please be sure that you have time for your new pet. Especially as “babies” animals need love and patience. Be sure you’re prepared for the commitment needed. DealDash has some basic bunny pointers for you.

Bunny Proof Your Home

With that in mind, it’s important to bunny proof your house. They can reach anything that is less than 3 feet off of the floor. So, you should bunny proof your house. If you let the rabbit roam, it may gnaw at the baseboards.

Get All of Your Supplies First

We can offer a few pointers for your supplies. First, make sure you have the basics. You’ll need a cage to keep your new pet in. It’s important to make sure the cage is large enough for the rabbit to move around in. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but I’d recommend at least 2-3 feet wide. The larger, the better. You should fill the cage with hay. For a young rabbit, you should look for alfalfa hay.

Looking beyond a cage, you need a litter box. You can use a typical cat litter box or make one of your own with a small plastic container. It’s important to buy rabbit litter. It’s much safer than cat litter. You can cover the litter with some hay.

Don’t Forget the Food

Rabbits eat more than just hay, so it’s important that you add green vegetables to their diet. You can try kale, mint, broccoli leaves (the stem can cause tummy aches), lettuce, and celery. Finally, you need some entertainment.

Socialization and Training

While all of these things are important, also remember the significance of socialization. While rabbits can be a bit destructive, you should let them out so that they can roam around and interact with everyone in your house. You can let them roam inside or outside, but be sure that you keep the area safe. You don’t want your new pet getting stepped on and you don’t want him getting out of the yard.

DealDash Holiday: Plan an Easter Party

DealDash

Easter is coming, and now is the perfect time to begin planning your family’s Easter celebration. DealDash can help.

Planning a fun Easter celebration is something you should do for your family if you have young children. It’s easy and fun to make a plan for your family to be able to enjoy this holiday. Here are a few suggestions for planning a lively Easter celebration, from DealDash.

Everyone’s Favorite – The Egg Hunt

Firstly, you will want to plan an Easter egg hunt. If you only have one child coming to your celebration, then you don’t have to worry about making sure everyone finds some eggs, but if you have multiple children you should assign each child a specific color of egg. This way each child will be able to find the same amount of eggs. This is especially important if you have a wide range of ages participating. You wouldn’t want the big kids to swoop through and find all of the eggs before the toddlers and preschool kids are able to find any.

Crafts Will Be a Hit

Kids love to do crafts, and they are a nice way to keep them occupied for a little while so the adults get a break. As my husband likes to say – keep it simple. There’s no need to plan out anything too elaborate, so plan some simple Easter crafts for the kids. Of course, you will need to plan for the different ages of kids participating. For the toddlers, this can be something as simple as bunny coloring pages, and for the older kids, you should consider getting a few craft kits from the craft store. This is a great way for to kids to make something to remember the celebration.

Party Outside if Possible

Parties that have kids involved are always better outside if the weather is nice. You will have less clean-up to do after, and they will be able to get out some energy out and be louder than they would be able to be inside. Be sure to have outdoor games planned for the kids. Consider making a “pin the tail on the bunny” game, have a table and ingredients set up for them to make slime, and have water guns and bubbles available. The kids will have a blast and there will be a minimal mess to clean up.

Get Party Supplies and Games on DealDash

Games can be a fun part of throwing a party for kids. They can play musical chairs, water games and other types of games meant for indoor or outdoors. I’ve got good news! DealDash has fun toys and games that you can incorporate into your Easter party. The Hobbies, Toys, Outdoors, and Games category is the perfect place to browse.
