DealDash Kids: Homework Help for Kids

DealDash

Every kid is different, but many of them need help with homework. Follow these suggestions from DealDash and have an easier time helping your child.

Many kids struggle with homework, and as a parent, it means that it ends up being your struggle as well. Thankfully, there are quite a few things that you can do as a parent to help make homework go more smoothly for your child, with a little help from DealDash.

Get Started Right Away (Or After Snack)

As soon as my school-aged children (8 and 11) get off of the bus, it’s time to do homework. It’s a predictable routine, and there are rarely any arguments about it. Ever since they were in Kindergarten this has been our schedule. On the other hand, my friend’s son is not in this routine, and there are many homework-related arguments in their home. Of course, sometimes they come home hungry and request to have their snack before homework instead of the other way around.

Also, if your child is older they probably have more homework. For your own sanity, make sure that you allow them to take breaks. A 10-15 minute break after each homework assignment is sufficient. It’s surprising to me the amount of homework my 5th grader has versus how much he had last year. Be sure to let them take breaks and things will go more smoothly at home.

Try to Make it Fun

It may sound difficult, but you can try to make homework fun for your kids. Many of you might remember those old “Schoolhouse Rock” videos. Did you know that many of them are available on YouTube to watch for free? This is a great option especially if your child is more of a visual learner. My daughter who is in 2nd grade loves them! And she was very surprised to hear that I watched them when I was her age! There are also many free (and paid) apps that can teach and entertain at the same time. Just do a search for “free education games” or “math games” or “reading games”, and you will have many to choose from to download.

Reward Good Grades With Help From DealDash

Does your child have good grades? Be sure to reward your child’s good work. Doing homework consistently and thoroughly usually leads to better grades. When you notice that your child has been getting great grades on tests and schoolwork, you might want to get them a small gift. DealDash has many things that your child would love. No matter if they love Legos, stuffed animals, board games, or even video games, DealDash has you covered. Click here to see some amazing toys that will really “WOW” your kids. Of course, DealDash is only for adults – The DealDash services are offered and may only be used by persons over the age of 18.

DealDash Kids: Fun Family Holiday Activities

DealDash

Tis the season to spend quality time with family. If you’re running out of fun holiday activities to do with your family, look no further.

It’s the perfect time of year to make lasting lifetime memories with your family. There’s nothing wrong with sitting around and watching TV sometimes, but fun activities will really stand out in everyone’s mind. Here are some great holiday activities to do with your family, from DealDash.

Write Letters to Santa

My kids love writing letters to Santa Claus. Our local community organization made it a point to respond to the letters that we sent them. It was a well-written, personalized letter that didn’t make any promises about gifts. The kids loved getting a personalized note from Santa Claus. See if there is an organization in your area that does this as well. You can try asking at your local library, elementary school, or church. There are also places online you can order a postcard from Santa, as well.

Wrap Christmas Presents

Wrapping presents might seem like a chore to an adult, but kids love to wrap presents. If you have more than one child you can ask if they would like to wrap the other’s present. Of course, only do this if your kids are old enough to keep a secret! If they are an only child or can’t keep a secret, ask if they would like to wrap Grandma/Grandpa/Aunt/Uncle/Cousin’s present. My daughter is 8 and loves to wrap her brother’s presents. She not only thinks it’s fun but also enjoys knowing a secret the boys don’t know!

Decorate With DealDash

As with wrapping presents, decorating can be a chore for adults and a joy for children. DealDash has some great things to use to decorate for the holidays. You will find a Christmas train, lighting strips, smart bulbs and many other decorative items on DealDash.  Or you can always check out the Home, Garden, and Tools category, located here.

The Pickle Game

We’ve also picked up the German tradition of “hiding the pickle”. You purchase a pickle shaped ornament and hide it on the Christmas tree. You give the “go” and the kids search the Christmas tree for the ornament. Whoever finds it first wins a prize. The following year, the person who won gets to hide the ornament for everyone else to find.

DealDash Holidays: Host a Family Sleepover

DealDash

Getting to know the smaller members of your extended family is important! Hosting a niece and nephew sleepover is a fun way to accomplish this. Here are some tips from DealDash to get you started.

One of my favorite holiday traditions is to have a sleepover with all of the children in our family. Fortunately, our house is large enough that we can bring all of the little cousins (my 3 children, nieces, and nephews) together for a little holiday fun. It can be difficult to come up with new ideas though. Below is a list of some of our favorites, from DealDash.

Christmas and Seasonal Crafts

We’ve made it a family tradition to start with some sort of Christmas and/or seasonal crafts. The specific project may change every year, but our family loves seeing the decorations or the Christmas cards that are hand made from each of our children. Some years, our Christmas project includes baking cookies. And as my husband likes to say, “Why choose?”.

Holiday Movies are a Hit

Christmas videos are also popular in our family. Some families rotate movies to ensure that things don’t get “stale”. My spouse’s family has one movie that has become a Christmas tradition. There’s nothing wrong with either option. Personally, my favorite Christmas movie is Elf, and my kids prefer Home Alone. Whatever your favorite seasonal movie is, it’s always better with popcorn! Just make sure that you check with all of the parents first – some kids are not advised to eat popcorn if they have braces.

White Elephant/Secret Santa

If you’ve never heard of it, look up the idea of a “white elephant” gift exchange. We’ve tried having families go out and let the kids pick gifts. We’ve also had years where I purchase a group of gifts and let the kids select from them. It’s an interesting idea and can be even more comical with kids. Traditionally the white elephant exchange is just silly presents. If you think that the kids would prefer more useful things you can always ask the parents to bring a fun gift that is worth around $5 to $10.

Have Extra Bedding – From DealDash

Finally, if you are planning on hosting a family sleepover, then you will need to have lots of extra bedding and towels on hand. If you plan on making this an annual tradition, then you might also want to pick up an extra air bed as well. Don’t despair, DealDash has all of these bedding and bath items – and plenty more! To see the sheets and bedding click here. The towels are located here, and if you want to check out the entire DealDash Home, Garden, and Tools category, click here. Get a great deal, and free shipping as well on every item!

Thanks for Reading

My husband and I both have fond memories of cousin sleepovers as kids, and we are hoping to extend the tradition to our kids and their cousins. It can be a bit of work to keep everyone entertained, but the more you plan ahead, the better time everyone will have. Thanks so much for reading this DealDash article on hosting a family sleepover.

DealDash Helps: Organize Your Gift Wrapping

DealDash

Black Friday is almost here, and that means lots of wrapping! Wrapping gifts is fun, but it can be tricky to get organized. Don’t worry, DealDash can help.

Christmas is one of my favorite holidays, but the process of getting ready for the holidays can be pretty chaotic. Things go more smoothly when organized. Below is a quick summary of an organized way to keep your gift wrapping simple. Read on for more information from DealDash.

Storage Solutions

Preparation is half the battle. I use old wrapping paper tubes to hold my unused wrapping paper together. Using it as a cuff keeps the current roll from unraveling. I like to keep all of the name tags that I have in a small plastic container. It also helps to keep the bows and ribbon neatly put away in the same area. Typically, I have one large plastic bin that all of these go into. If the wrapping paper won’t fit, it goes on top of the lid. There are custom wrapping paper bins for sale at many big box stores. Try snagging one after the holiday for a great deal.

Beautiful Storage Options on DealDash

However, you don’t have to settle for clear plastic storage bins when you have DealDash! You will find lots of options in the Home, Garden, and Tools category. There is an excellent product that is sometimes offered that has wall storage comprised of small baskets. This would be an excellent place to store your tape, scissors, and tags as well as ribbon. There are also storage cubes and shelves on DealDash. Just click here to check out the auctions.

The Wrapping Process

When I’m getting started, I like to clear the space I’ll be using. Typically, I try to use a kitchen table because of the size of the flat surface area. I stack my gifts based on who they’re going to and when I will need the gift. Family gifts go first, followed by friends, then co-workers, and finally any Christmas Party or White Elephant gifts that I’ll need.

I take one stack and put it to my left. I write out a name tag for my first gift.  And then I wrap the present, put the name tag on it, then set it off to my right. As I wrap more gifts, I stack them up until I complete the full stack. Once I finish the family stack, I set them back in their designated area and move on to the next stack.

By writing the name tag out first, I’m making sure I can’t forget who the gift belongs to. By keeping stacks separate, I’m able to be sure I know where the gifts are going and I’m able to check off who I’ve finished my gifts for to be sure I’m not missing anything.

Thanks for Reading

Personally, I love wrapping gifts. However, if you aren’t a fan, these tips should make your time easier with better organization. Thanks so much for reading this DealDash article on gift wrapping. I hope that it was helpful to you.

DealDash Travel Tips for the Holidays

DealDash Lots of fun family holidays are coming up soon. If you’re traveling for the holiday you will want to read this new DealDash article.

The holidays are always a very busy season for travel, both by air and by car. Thanksgiving is next week, and Christmas is just around the corner. Now is a great time to make your travel plans. Read this DealDash article and get some tips!

Driving or Flying This Season?

Firstly, you need to choose how you will get to your holiday celebration. Are you going to drive or fly? Be sure to plan ahead and do your research on routes, flights, and prices. Be sure to check different airlines to compare different costs for flights. If you’re driving you will want to see how long it takes, where you can stop for a break, and factor in the cost of gas.

DealDash Can Assist With Packing

For short trips, like a long weekend around the holidays, a carry-on bag is a great choice. If you need a fresh new carry-on bag you can obtain one from DealDash. DealDash has very nice high-quality luggage. They are much nicer than the ones at the local big box store. You can simply click this link right here and check out the luggage that DealDash offers up for auction.

If you’re a mom like me, then you probably end up packing for more than just yourself! I have 3 kids to pack for as well as myself, so I like to start early. Typically I try to do a load of laundry and pack as I am folding the clean clothes. I feel like it saves an extra step – then when we come home I unpack all of the dirty clothes directly back into the washing machine! Go ahead, treat yourself to some new luggage. Just click here.

Make a List

You will also want to make a list of things you have to do before you leave for your trip. Be sure to think of everything, because there’s nothing worse than being halfway to your destination and remember something that you either forgot to do or to pack. Here is an example of what my list usually looks like:

  • Fill automatic water and food bowls for the cats (if we are away for more than 2 days I get a pet sitter)
  • Make sure the litterbox has fresh litter
  • Turn the heat down to 65
  • Check to make sure all appliances are off/unplugged
  • Check all window and door locks
  • Bring medicine

Thanks for Reading

Traveling for the holidays can be either fun or a pain – it’s up to you! The more you plan ahead, though, the better time you will have. Thanks so much for reading this DealDash article on prepping for your holiday trip.
