DealDash Homemade Halloween Costume Ideas

Stick Figure

You can simply wear an all-white outfit and use some duct tape to make an outline of a stick figure. If you don’t have duct tape at home, a 5 minute trip to the store should get you exactly what you need. If you really want to spice up the outfit, add a strip of battery-lowered LED lights to really make your stick figure shine!

Rosie the Riveter

You can easily reach into history by wearing a full denim outfit and getting a red polka-dotted headband. Just remember that you have to do the flexing pose at least once while in costume.

Mary Poppins

This famous movie character is another easy outfit. Just find a white blouse, a nice skirt, and a hat. Adding an umbrella really helps as well. You can change colors with these outfits, but most people associate Mary Poppins with blue or white.

Scarecrow

Reinventing the scarecrow is surprisingly easy. Find a plaid shirt. In a perfect world, you should wear denim overalls, but just wearing jeans could work as well. Add a little makeup to put red circles on your cheeks and outline some stitching around your nose and mouth. Adding some straw or a flower can really set this costume apart. Grab a friend with a blue and white gingham dress and you can skip down the yellow brick road together!

Jack Sparrow

Another easy costume that is instantly recognizable is Jack Sparrow. Wearing a white shirt with a black vest can accomplish the theme. Add in a pair of tights and a red headband to bring it home. If you have a black/brown sash that would help. Women can also take advantage of a purse and drape that across their body to create the sash look.  It helps to use makeup to outline your eyes and draw on a mustache and beard as well.

DealDash’s Halloween Safety Suggestions

DealDash

Halloween is coming soon. Stay safe with these suggestions from DealDash.

Halloween is a fun holiday for everyone, especially for kids. It is a holiday for parties, candy, and scary surprises. Although Halloween is an enjoyable holiday, it is important to stay safe if your kids are going trick or treating or to parties. Kids can easily be injured by a car or can fall or trip on things during trick or treating. In order to enjoy Halloween, you have to stay safe. Here are 3 Halloween Safety Tips from DealDash

Choose Costumes Wisely

Choosing the right costumes is important for Halloween safety. If your kids are going trick or treating, it is best to wear outfits that are bright and made with flame-resistant materials. It is important to attach reflective tape to your child’s custom if they are going outdoors after it becomes dark outside.

Choosing costumes without a mask is a great way to stay safe. A mask can block your child’s vision or slip off. Wearing the right costumes will help your kid have a safe Halloween.

Pumpkin Carvings

Pumpkin carving is a Halloween tradition for some families, but there are also safer alternatives that you can do. You can decorate a pumpkin with glitter glue, paint or markers or draw unique faces on the pumpkin. It is best to leave the pumpkin carving to the adults. You can light your pumpkin with a flashlight or batteried tealight.

Stay Safe When Trick or Treating

Trick or treating is a fun activity for your kids on Halloween, but it is important to take safety precautions. You should inspect your kid’s candy before they eat them. Feed your children a meal before they go trick or treating so they won’t be snacking on the candy before you check it. Make sure you get rid of any candy that is not sealed, looks questionable, or has torn wrappers.

DealDash Throws an All-Ages Halloween Party

DealDash

Halloween isn’t just for kids! Throw a fun Halloween party for everyone from kids to grandparents with these ideas from DealDash.

Halloween is a fun holiday to celebrate in the fall. You get to throw Halloween parties and dress up in crazy costumes, play games and eat good food. If you want to have an unforgettable Halloween party first, you need to put together your guest list and send out invites. After that, you need to decorate your home or find a space to have a party. Here are some tips on how to throw a Halloween party for everyone you know, from DealDash.

Figure Out Your Guest List (Don’t Forget Grandparents)

Deciding who you want to invite to your Halloween party is the most important step. It is good to invite friends from different parts of your life, such as coworkers, friends that you play sports with or classmates. Although you might be hesitant to invite people that have not met each other, it is good to have a mixed crowd so your friends can get to know each other. Don’t hesitate to invite older folks to the party. Some of the best homemade costumes that I have ever seen were made and worn by seniors.

Check DealDash for Halloween Themed Decorations

In order to have a successful Halloween party, you have to transform your house into a spooktacular home. The best way to do that is to buy Halloween-themed decorations. There are many options to choose from at your local craft, Halloween, or costume store. You can even check DealDash! You can typically find a few Halloween decorations on DealDash for your home or lawn up for auction.

Also, you can buy removable Halloween scene stickers to put on your windows or give the effects of a spider web by using cotton. Decorating your house for Halloween will get them in the mood for a scary and fun night. Remember, don’t make it too scary if you are planning on inviting small kids to your party.

Make Halloween Recipes

Your guests will be open to try any food or drink that you provide, but you should add a twist to the food and beverages you will be serving. Halloween-themed recipes will impress your guests, and get them into the Halloween spirit. You don’t have to know any fancy recipes for Halloween. Consider buying candy in the shape of an eyeball, meatloaf in a red sauce with a fake hand coming out of it or Halloween themed cupcakes. You can easily print out fun designs from the internet, cut them out, and attach them to cupcakes with toothpicks.

DealDash Holiday: Time to Carve a Pumpkin

DealDash

Carving a pumpkin is a favorite fall activity. If you want to have an awesome pumpkin, you’ll need to plan ahead. Read on for some ideas from DealDash.

The fall is almost here, and it is time to do some fall activities. Carving pumpkins has been a tradition for many years. During Halloween, most people like to show off their art skills by carving pumpkins into a variety of faces and shapes. Learning how to carve pumpkins may seem hard, but here are suggestions that can help you carve a pumpkin, from DealDash.

Choose the Right Pumpkin

Finding the right pumpkin is one of the first things you need to do. You may think that you can pick any pumpkin, but that is not the case. When you are choosing a pumpkin for carving, you have to make sure that the pumpkin has no bruises, a flat bottom, and that it does not roll when you carve it.

Create Your Design on Paper Before You Carve Your Pumpkin

Creating your design on paper can help you make the perfect jack-o-lantern face. Simply use it as a pattern and trace the sketch. Just tape your sketch on the front of the pumpkin and poke holes or use a pencil along the lines that you want to carve the pumpkin. You can also get a pumpkin carving kit to save time.

Keep Your Pumpkin Nice and Fresh

It is recommended to spread petroleum jelly on the edges that you cut to keep the moisture within your pumpkin. If your pumpkin goes bad a few days later, you can soak it in cold water to revive it. When your pumpkin is fresh, you won’t have to worry about your design withering.

Cook the Pumpkin Seeds

Don’t waste the inside of your pumpkin! While you are carving your jack-o-lantern, save the seeds in a bowl. All you need to make roasted pumpkin seeds (other than the seeds!) is:

  • ½ teaspoon Lawry’s Seasoned Salt
  • ½ tablespoon olive oil
  • Dash of salt

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Soak the clean seeds in a bowl full of water for 30 minutes minimum, up to 24 hours in the fridge. Drain the seeds, throw away the water.
  3. Fill a pot with water and a dash of salt. Boil water, and place seeds into the boiling water for 10 minutes.
  4. Turn off the heat and drain the seeds and place back into your empty bowl. Toss seeds with olive oil. Lay the seeds in a thin layer on a cookie sheet. Sprinkle with Lawry’s Seasoned Salt. Place in oven and turn the seeds over every 10 minutes, do not let them burn. Seeds are done in around 40 minutes or when they become firmer and are no longer soft.

Fun Halloween Kid’s Activities from DealDash

DealDash

Halloween is coming up soon and if you have kids or grandkids you’ll want to do a fun activity. Here are some ideas from DealDash for fun Halloween activities your kids will love.

There are many fun youngsters’ activities readily available throughout the Halloween season. You can capitalize on those tasks to maintain their attention and keep them active. When Halloween night is quickly coming, they are most likely to be thrilled and excited. That is why prep work overall is crucial to show them a good time. Here are some tips and ideas to make your kids have a great Halloween.

Arts and Crafts

Arts and crafts are fun to do around Halloween time. You can do this with the children to make it satisfying and keep them busy. Just a quick search online can help you find so many different simple and easy Halloween crafts to do with your kids. Just type in their age and “Halloween crafts” into a search engine and you will get hundreds of hits. My daughter, who is now 7, loves anything to do with coloring and cutting out designs. You could make a fun banner that spells out “Happy Halloween” with spooky ghost and bat designs. No matter what craft you pick, your kids will have a great time with you creating some Halloween memories.

Don’t Forget the Pumpkins

Pumpkins. This is one of the most favored Halloween items for youngsters. Children can do the pumpkin carving to produce Jack O’ Lanterns. However, this requires a great deal of guidance. You will need to monitor them closely if they are using any sort of sharp tools. Pumpkins can additionally be decorated using other less dangerous tools like painting or using stickers to improve and embellish them. If your kids aren’t ready to decorate a real pumpkin they could, instead, make pumpkins with clay or paper plates.

Special Halloween Foods

Another fun thing the youngsters can make is Halloween food. They will certainly take pleasure in making them and also they will certainly likewise appreciate consuming them. You can, again, find many things to help you with this online by typing “Halloween recipes” into your favorite search engine. You will end up with results such as how to make candy apples and caramel popcorn balls. A very creative idea my friend did once was to make a pizza at home and when it came out of the oven she put on little ghosts that she had carved out of cheese. It was adorable and her kids loved it.

Halloween Costumes

No one says that a child’s Halloween outfit has to be bought at the store! Educate the kids that they do not require to invest much for the outfits, they can make them at home as many children did back in the “good old days”. First, they will need to discover what they would love to be, then help them begin working with their very own outfits in your home. They will certainly be so pleased with sprucing up for Halloween given that they prepared the outfit themselves.

Party with DealDash

Of course, if you are planning on throwing a Halloween party for your kids you will want to get the supplies and decorations from DealDash. DealDash offers a variety of party supplies as well as gift cards to the major big box stores where you can buy decorations. Remember, if you bid on a gift card auction (or any other auction) and you don’t win, you can purchase the gift card in a BIN (Buy It Now) and receive all of the bids back that you spent on the auction. It’s a great deal!

Thanks for Reading

Planning Halloween activities with young kids does not have to be complicated. You can make some very simple items and have a great time creating something they will enjoy. Don’t forget to take pictures of the Halloween crafts after your kids have finished making them. They will love to see them when they are older.
