DealDash Helps: Save Money on Heating

DealDash

Winter is coming. It’s time to think about saving on heating costs, with DealDash.

With cooler months quickly approaching, you need to start thinking about heating your home for the winter. Unfortunately, this becomes incredibly expensive for a lot of families, especially those that use oil heating. Here are a few ways you can save on heating your home this winter, from DealDash.

Pile on the Layers

One very simple way to save money on your heating bill is to wear warm clothing or wrap up in a blanket. If you wear lighter clothing around the house you will find that you will want to turn the heat up. You will be wasting more you could have been saving.

In addition to extra layers of clothing, be sure that each family member has a heavy blanket on their bed. DealDash has some very nice down alternative comforters for auction. I actually won one for around $3 including the cost of bids!

Eliminate the Drafts

You will also want to work on eliminating all the drafts in your home that you can. There are kits to cover windows to get rid of drafts for a very reasonable price. You can also make yourself a few draft dodgers to get rid of drafts coming through the bottoms of doors. Simply sew a long tube and fill it with sand or beans and stick it up against the bottom of the door. I personally have one against the bottom of the fireplace as well.

Home-cooked Meals Help

If you make a meal in the oven, leave the door open a bit to let the warm air out. That can help you from having to turn up your thermostat and you can also turn your heat down at appropriate times during the day to save money on your heating bill. Since you have to cook meals for your family anyway, why not take advantage of the extra heat that the oven provides?

Beware of Space Heaters

While you might think that it is a good idea to use a space heater to help heat your home in the winter you need to avoid doing this.  You will be at the risk of having a house fire if something should bump into the heater. If you must have a space heater, try to get one of the long, low to the ground ones. They heat just as well and are much less likely to be knocked over.
