DealDash Cooks: Adding More Veggies to Meals
Everyone knows that vegetables are one of the healthiest things that you can eat. Not everyone loves them. DealDash can help.
All people want to be healthy, and eating vegetables is a great way to start. However, they aren’t everyone’s favorite. Getting more vegetables into your meals can seem like a tough task. Here are some suggestions from DealDash that will help you get more vegetables into your meals.
Involve the Family in Meal Planning
You can involve the whole family in planning the meals. If you aren’t a big fan of vegetables you might not think your family will either. However, you might be surprised at what your family might like to try. This is a great way to get the family’s input on what vegetables they like and might even serve as an encouragement for you to eat them yourself. Another great reason to get the entire family involved with meal planning is you won’t end up with a lot of uneaten food if you accidentally made a vegetable that no one in your family likes to eat.
Try Different Stores and Markets
Going to a farmer’s market is another way to discover new and different vegetables that you might not have tried before. Many times there are samples offered so you can experiment with different veggies and their flavors without the commitment of purchasing them only to discover you really don’t like the taste.
Another great reason to go to the farmer’s market is to pick up some new recipes and ideas for cooking and serving the vegetables. If you come across a few vegetables that you like but have never cooked before you can ask the person at the stand for some guidance on how to cook them.
If you don’t have a farmer’s market near you, or if the weather is preventing it, no problem. You can simply try going to a few different grocery stores than you typically visit and check out their fruit and vegetable section. You will probably find a few things that you don’t see in the store that you normally visit.
Still Not a Fan? Make Sauce!
I will be the first to admit that I am not a big fan of many vegetables. Personally, I prefer to just eat a salad to get my nutrients in. However, my family doesn’t want to have a salad every night, so I try to get creative and incorporate different vegetables into meals. I have found that the easiest way to make vegetables taste better is to make a sauce or a dip for them. Obviously, this isn’t as healthy as just adding a little salt and pepper, but over time you can use less sauce. This is a great way to get your family to eat vegetables that they wouldn’t normally even try. Just make certain that they are not eating more dip or sauce than vegetables!
