What’s something that really needs to be done at least every six months that everyone dreads? Let DealDash show you a quick and easy way to clean your fridge.

Cleaning the fridge is an important part of home maintenance. Having a clean fridge helps keep food fresher and helps keep foods that absorb odors as odorless as possible. No, just sticking a box of baking soda in the fridge doesn’t count as cleaning it. But keep that box of baking soda handy, you can put it in the fridge after it’s been cleaned and sanitized. Here is a quick step-by-step lesson on fridge cleaning:

1. Take all of the food out of the fridge. Be sure to have a clean countertop that you can keep all of your food on while you are cleaning the fridge. Be sure to have a trash bag available as well, you will probably be throwing out a few things. As you are removing the food be sure to check the expiration dates on everything including all of your condiments. Throw out anything that’s expired.
2. Remove all of the removable parts, like the shelves and drawers. Fill a large vessel such as a tote with warm water and regular dishwashing soap and leave these parts to soak before wiping and rinsing.
3. Wipe all surfaces down with a combination of dishwashing soap and warm water. Use a sponge that you don’t mind throwing away after you’re done. I personally like to use my dish sponge that sits on my sink, then I just toss it after I’m done cleaning the fridge and put a fresh sponge out.
4. If you have any stubborn crusty areas or even stains, mix a small amount of  that baking soda that I told you to keep handy with a little water to make a thick paste. Apply the paste to the stain and leave for an hour before wiping with a your already damp sponge.The baking soda should loosen the stain, making it easy to scrub clean.
5. Stick the box of baking soda in the back to help absorb any odors.
6. That’s about it, time to put back everything that you took out to clean the fridge. Keep a wet rag or sponge in your hand as you put things away, give them a quick wipe as you are putting them back.
