DealDash Helps: Repair Your Hair

The summer is great in a lot of ways, but all of that sun, pool chlorine, and ocean saltwater can wreck havoc on your hair. Here are some ways to fix the problem.

Full disclaimer: It’s not really possible to “heal” your hair, since hair is really just dead keratin. However, there are ways to bind your split ends together to make your hair appear more smooth and healthy. These treatments are also helpful in protecting the growing hair that is closer to the scalp.

The first step in doing damage control on your hair is switching up your shampoo and conditioner. You don’t have to buy the most expensive shampoo and conditioner out there, you just need to pay attention to the ingredients. Choose a shampoo and conditioner that promotes low pH balance on their labels. They’ll help keep moisture locked in, which is key in getting your dry, damaged, brittle hair to look healthier. Also look for products that say, “intense moisture,” “anti-aging,” or “thermal protection.” Also, you might want to opt for shampoos and conditioners that have oils in them. Avocado oil, argan oil, and olive oil are all good for moisturizing dry, brittle hair.

Once you have picked a great shampoo and conditioner it’s time to pick a deep conditioning treatment. There are plenty of them out there, but I find it more beneficial to make my own hair mask. Here is a super simple and easy to make hair mask. There are only 2 ingredients! Egg and avocado. Here’s what to do:

Ingredients

  • ½ an avocado (Pro tip: Use a mushier avocado)
  • 2 egg yolks

Directions

Mash the avocado into a paste and mix well with the egg yolks. Apply to wet or dry hair and allow to sit for 15-20 minutes before rinsing and washing hair. Done!

Sometimes there’s nothing more that you can do to fix things and it’s time for a haircut. So if your damaged hair has a straw-like texture and good hair days are just a thing that other people have, the first thing you can do to make it look better is to get a trim. To achieve good results, you don’t have to get a super short cut; you can leave some length and treat the remaining damaged hair. If you’re the sort of person who looks good with a pixie cut or super-short bob, go for it! That way you can get rid of the bulk of the damaged hair and start fresh.
