DealDash Helps: Visiting at the Hospital

If you find yourself visiting someone in the hospital you might want to bring them something to cheer them up. Flowers are nice, but let’s look at other options.

Depending on why the person is in the hospital you might want to bring them some of their favorite food. Everyone complains about the taste of hospital food, so why not cheer up your friend or family member with something that they love to eat? If you get the OK that it’s fine to bring your friend some food be sure to bring something that doesn’t have to be eaten right away. For example, ice cream would be a bad choice. A large portion of time spent in the hospital is spent talking to nurses, doctors, and aides and getting poked, blood drawn, and vitals taken. If you happen to arrive at an inopportune moment you won’t want the delicious treat that you brought melting or otherwise going bad if it can’t be eaten immediately.

If your friend is going to be in the hospital for more than a day or so they would probably appreciate a nice soft bathrobe and slippers. The scratchy johnnies and slipper socks that they give you when you are admitted to the hospital are adequate but a nice fresh soft robe and slippers would bring a smile to your friend’s face. If their illness or injury doesn’t require the doctors and nurses to frequently check their bodies then you might even want to bring them a set of pajamas as well. Try to get the type that is pants and a button up top, it will be easier for the doctors and nurses to check them when they need it.

If you’re visiting a child in the hospital they would appreciate a toy or game, of course, but don’t forget about their parents as well. There are very few things that are worse than your child bring in the hospital so Mom and Dad could use some cheering up as well. Photos or scrapbooks of friends, pets, and family would also be a gesture that would be very much appreciated. If the child is older they will enjoy looking at them if they feel homesick.
