Happy 2017, from DealDash. 2017 is here, let’s take a look at the highlights of 2016.

Some people have called 2016 the worst year ever, but as an optimist, I like to try to find the silver lining on the raincloud. Here are some fun and interesting things that happened in 2016, from DealDash Reviews.

Entertainment

After decades, Leonardo DiCaprio finally won his first Oscar. It was a win for Leo fans everywhere. He won Best Actor for his film The Revenant. Did he thank the bear in his speech? He definitely should have thanked the bear in his speech!

If you’re an X-Files fan, 2016 was a good year for you. The TV drama “The X-Files” returned after 13 years, reuniting lead actors David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson and was again produced by Chris Carter.

“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”, a play written by Jack Thorne with Harry Potter book author JK Rowling, premiered in London.

The ultra-popular real-world mobile game Pokémon Go, by Niantic, was released.

“Hamilton” set a new record for most money earned in a week on Broadway, a whopping $3.3 million!

Nature & Space

The first ever flower was grown in space. The flower grown was a zinnia aboard the International Space Station using the NASA Veggie system.

Yay for astronauts! US astronauts Scott Kelly and Russian cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko return to earth after nearly a year (340 days), setting an ISS record.

NASA’s Juno spacecraft successfully entered Jupiter’s orbit this year.

Technology

Alphabet, who is Google’s parent company, surpasses Apple as the world’s most valuable company ($568bn vs $535bn), after releasing income results.

The first baby was born with DNA from 3 parents through mitochondrial transfer in Mexico. Who would have thought that was ever possible?

Speaking of amazing births, a fertility clinic in India announced that a70-year-oldd woman successfully gave birth to a baby boy.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan pledged $3 billion to medical research to “cure, prevent or manage all diseases by the end of the century.” Kind of a tall order, but good luck to them!

Amazon announced its 1st delivery by drone 2 km from their warehouse in the UK. I can hardly wait until I can get almost instant delivery by drone.

Sports

Can you believe the Super Bowl has been around for 50 years? Super Bowl 50 happened in February, the Denver Broncos defeated the Carolina Panthers 24–10, at Levi’s Stadium, in Santa Clara, California.

Football star Peyton Manning announces his retirement from the Denver Broncos and the NFL. What a career!

Speaking of retirement, American swimmer Michael Phelps ends his career at Rio Olympics after winning 4×100 medley relay, his 23rd Gold medal, as world’s most decorated Olympian.

The 31st Summer Olympics closed at Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Here’s one for you Europeans!  Cristiano Ronaldo became the 1st footballer to top Forbes’ Highest-Paid Athletes List, earning $88 million, wow!
