DealDash Helps Host Family Movie Night

DealDash

Family movie night is one of my favorite times to spend with my husband and kids. DealDash has some fun ways to prepare for a movie night at your house.

No matter the ages and genders in your family, everyone can enjoy family movie nights. Everyone from the youngest kid all the way up to grandma and grandpa can all have a great time together watching a movie. There are some things that can make movie night better, of course. Here are some quick ideas, from DealDash.

Collect Some Goodies

To begin with, what is a movie night without some fun snacks? If you’re thinking of having a regular weekly or bi-weekly family movie night you will want to begin collecting some snacks and treats in preparation for the big night. You can even dedicate a space in your pantry to these movie night treats. You will want to stock your stash with things like popcorn (microwave or kernels), popcorn shake-on flavorings, chips or pretzels, dip, Goldfish crackers, and candies.

Create a Movie List

Next, you will want to make a list of movies that the family wants to watch. This can be an ongoing project that you can add to or remove items at any time. If you have a large range of ages in your home you will want to make sure that all of the movies are appropriate for the youngest family members. This doesn’t mean that you are regulated to animated movies only, though! Some of my kid’s (age 4, 8, and 12) favorite movies are Home Alone and Mrs. Doubtfire. Nature movies and PG comedy movies are also a hit at my house. You can also make a few different lists in case the teens and adults in the family might like to watch something a little more mature after the little ones go to bed.

DealDash Can Make Movie Night Special

Finally, there are lots of different ways that you can make your movie night experience better. For example, you could get a roll of LED strip lighting and put it behind your TV or under your TV cabinet for ambient lighting. You could also get a speaker tower, soundbar, or Bluetooth speaker set to make your movie soundtrack really ROCK! You can get all of these items and tons of others on DealDash. Simply head on over to the Electronics and Computers category on DealDash and check it out!

DealDash: Quarantine Got You Cooking?

DealDash

Surprisingly, this time during quarantine is the first time that some people have cooked for themselves. DealDash is here to share some tips to the beginner cook.

I have heard from quite a few people online that this is one of the first times that they have really tried cooking something other than pasta or freezer meals. Many of these people are busy professionals that eat many meals at restaurants instead of cooking. Now that we are all home it’s the perfect time to learn how to cook. Read on for some suggestions for the beginner cook, from DealDash.

Read Cookbooks Online

Firstly, learn about different styles of cooking is a great place to start. Normally I would suggest either browsing your local bookstore or going to the library, but in these times, ebooks are best. Consider the styles of cooking that you want to learn about and find cookbooks that offer recipes that cover those styles. There are lots of great free cookbooks online, and many local libraries also offer an ebook lending program. Look for books with recipes that are easy to follow. This is so you do not get discouraged when you’re cooking.

Is Your Pantry Stocked? Try Grocery Delivery

You’ll also want to look in your cabinets and pantry to see what you have available. You’ll want to double-check to see if you have everything that you need noted in the recipes you want to cook. If you don’t have the needed ingredients, you will have to make a shopping list. Typically this is when you would take your list to the grocery store. This is still an option, of course, but in these times you might want to try grocery delivery instead. Most big chain supermarkets offer this service. There are also many different delivery services that offer a “no contact” grocery delivery to your porch.

Having Trouble? Video Chat a Friend or Family Member

Finally, if you find that you still need help in learning to cook the recipes you have chosen, you should ask for help. Gone are the times when you can invite a friend or family member over to help. However, you can easily video chat with anyone in the world! You can use FaceTime on your phone or tablet, or any number of programs on your computer. You can even use a “virtual assistant” that has a screen to chat with friends and family far away. Don’t be shy, video chat a friend and ask for help.

Need a Device to Video Chat? DealDash Has it!

As I learned the hard way when I started homeschooling last month – you have to have a halfway modern device to video chat! If you don’t have a recent device you might experience lagging during your chat, or you might not even be able to connect at all. Don’t worry – I have a solution for you. It’s DealDash! On DealDash you will find brand new devices that will let you video chat with ease. Simply check out the Electronics and Computers category today. Just click here.

Soon, with some practice, you will be preparing delicious meals. Who knows, you might even cut down on eating at restaurants even when we are able to go out again!

DealDash Kids: Mom’s Store is Open for Business!

DealDash

Not being able to go out and look around and shop can be hard on kids, too. Here are some tips to help, from DealDash.

I don’t know about your kids, but 2 out of 3 of mine are big fans of browsing and shopping at the store. Walking around the mall is one of their favorite activities. However, during these days of social distancing, it’s just not a good idea. This is why I opened “Mom’s Store” at home for the kids. Read on for some tips on setting up your own little shop at home for your kids, from DealDash.

What IS Mom’s Store, Anyway?

Personally, I love to shop during sales and on the clearance racks and save the items for later. These are items that I keep in a box in the closet whenever I need a quick present for one of my own kids, for a birthday party with little notice, or any other holiday. I mostly have kid’s items, but I like to keep a few teen and adult items on hand, too, such as lotion sets or pretty scarves. You never know when you might need a spur-of-the-moment gift.

Now that I have had all of this extra time at home, I have moved all of the kid’s items into their own separate toy chest. I have also gone around the house and added new things that I have on hand such as craft supplies, new clothing that I hadn’t given them yet, stickers, and other small things. This is the “stock” at Mom’s Store. The kids can shop each Saturday using the tally marks that they earn during the week.

How Do the Kids Earn Tally Marks?

All three of my kids, even the preschooler, are having school online now. Each day that they do their schoolwork without complaining, or if one of the older ones helps the baby, they get a tally mark on my whiteboard. At the end of the week we count up the tally marks, and this is the currency at Mom’s Store.

There are other ways to earn tally marks such as doing extra chores in addition to their typical ones, babysitting the little one in the morning so Mom can get an extra hour of sleep, and making lunch for their siblings. Additionally, if one of them gets “caught” doing something extra nice, that can earn a tally mark as well. This mostly applies to the little one in our case, since he is too small to do most of the other things.

DealDash At-Home Study Tips

DealDash

Online learning can be tricky. Is your study method not working? Here are some tips from DealDash.

Studying and learning online can be a daunting task. Learning solely on the computer can be difficult if you don’t have a good routine. This is very true if you are an adult student who has gone back to university. Many people have a hard time studying and learning online. Here are a few tips for studying and learning at home, from DealDash.

Start Earlier

If you begin studying earlier you will have an easier time. If you are coming close to the deadline, you will feel stressed out and won’t be able to concentrate as well. Also, be sure that you come up with a study schedule, so you can study your material in the right amount of time. If you are taking many different classes online, then you should make a schedule of your class meetings and when your work is due. You should keep this in your study area and be sure to check it daily, in the morning.

Turn Off Devices and Stay Focused

Being at home, there are constant distractions. You have the alluring pull of your phone with social media, chatting, and games – as well as the other people in your home to distract you! To be able to learn more effectively, you need to minimize distractions. Make sure you are in a quiet place when you are studying, and turn off the notifications on your phone. Or, if you can, even leave your phone in a different room when you are doing your schoolwork. Make sure that the rest of your family knows not to bother you while you’re studying. This will help you stay focused.

Need Technology? Get it From DealDash

You have to be prepared when you are doing your schoolwork at home. Being prepared and having everything that you need will help you succeed in studying and learning at home.
