Feeling Sluggish? DealDash Energy Tips

DealDash

Are you feeling a little sluggish lately? Help improve your energy with these suggestions and tips from DealDash.

As we move into the fall, it’s common to start feeling a little sluggish and run down. There are quite a few ways that you can feel more energized. Use these energy tips from DealDash to feel your best perky self.

Energy Tip # 1 – Eat Healthy Meals

Firstly, if you are feeling sluggish, the easiest way you can feel more energetic is to cut down on junk food and eat healthy meals. This is the number one energy tip because it’s easy to do, good for your health, and should not add much (if any) to your budget. I know that junk food tastes good, and you don’t have to cut it out completely. Just cut it down to once a week instead of daily.

Energy Tip #2 – Don’t Skimp on Sleep

Next, another easy suggestion is to get more sleep! If you have been surviving on 6 hours of sleep per night, you’re not sleeping enough! It’s no wonder that you are feeling sluggish if you aren’t getting enough hours of sleep per night. The Mayo Clinic has an excellent guide on how many hours of sleep per night each age group should get each night. Click here to see the guide for all age ranges. The amount of sleep an adult needs according to the guide is 7-9 hours per night.

If you decide to try this energy tip, DealDash can help. Having new bed linens, pillows, and comforters can help you sleep. Simply follow this link here and you can see a few of the bedroom and sleep items that you can win or BIN (Buy It Now). You can also browse the Home, Garden, and Tools category (here) and find other home items such as candles, paintings, and vases.

Energy Tip #3 – Get Help from Your Family

Finally, this might be an unexpected tip, but get some help! As a stay-at-home-mom with 3 kids, I find myself struggling with all of the cooking, cleaning, laundry, appointments, and everything else. Doing all of these things for 5 people (and 2 cats) can get very overwhelming. Ergo, I decided to distribute the tasks to the kids according to their abilities. At first, it felt like even more work to have the kids help. However, after showing them how to do the tasks a few times they were able to help. This has given me a huge energy boost, as well as being a great family bonding experience. No one likes to do the cleaning, so if we all do it together it will be done faster.

DealDash Kids: Start the Year with Healthy Snacks

DealDash

School is starting soon, let’s start the year off right with healthy snacks. DealDash has suggestions.

If your kids are like mine, they are excited to start school soon. They miss their friends and yes, even their teachers. However, like most families, we have gotten into a few unhealthy eating habits. DealDash is here to offer some ideas to help get back on track with some healthy snacks. Read on for the details.

Crispy and Crunchy

To begin with, the texture is an important part of choosing a snack. Many times when people reach for chips as a snack they are just craving a crispy or crunchy texture. You will be happy to know that most fresh vegetables and healthy cereals can provide this crunchy texture. All this without all of the excess fat and calories. Next time your children want a crunchy snack, instead of reaching for the chips, see if you can interest them in some cereal for a healthy snack instead. Which cereals are the healthiest? Just click this link to check out a slideshow on the Good Housekeeping site.

Make it Easy

Next, another reason that people (especially kids) fail to choose healthy options is because they are usually more time-consuming. Just think – what’s easier, grabbing a bag of fruit snacks or taking the time to wash, peel, and cut up actual fruit? To make fruit be an easy option you just have to think (and wash!) ahead. I try to always keep a variety of washed, peeled, and cup up fruits and veggies in the fridge for my kids. This way it’s very easy for them to just grab them when they are hungry.

I have noticed that when I don’t replenish the “already ready” fruits and veggies my kids tend to grab less healthy options rather than come ask me to prepare the fruit/veggies and then have to wait for me to come and help them. They are like little sharks – when they are hungry they want to eat N-O-W!

DealDash Cooks: Yummy Snacks for All

DealDash

Why snack on the same old chips and pretzels day after day? Change it up! Here are some ideas from DealDash to get you started.

Most people love to have a yummy snack in the afternoon, or perhaps before bed. There are many snacks available – some that are unhealthy like chips, and others like pretzels that can just get boring. Why not branch out and try some new snacks to shake things up? Read on for more information from DealDash.

Include Protein for Satiety

Firstly, one big reason that you should choose to eat snacks that have protein is for satiety’s purpose. As in, if you add protein to your snack you will feel full and satisfied for longer. This is especially important if this is an afternoon snack to last until a late dinner. This is significantly better than choosing a snack like chips or candy which is lot of empty calories that will leave you hungry after an hour or so. Try eating a snack such as some beef or turkey jerky that is packed with protein. If you don’t eat meat, no problem! Try a hard-boiled egg or some peanut butter (or sunflower butter!) on an apple.

Try a “Snack Plate”

Next, another suggestion to ramp up your snack enjoyment is to make a snack plate! Instead of having a bigger amount of just one or two snack options, make a plate that includes a few bites of a bigger variety of snacks. For example, you could make a plate that has a few grapes, a couple of crackers with cheese, half a celery stalk with cream cheese, and a few almonds. By having just a bite or two of many different choices you feel much fuller and more satisfied with the variety.

Snack to Keep Your Weight in Check

Finally, you might think that snacking is detrimental to your diet, but that isn’t the case. As long as you are choosing healthy and nutritious items, it can actually help you manage your weight. This is because if you are hungry and don’t have a snack, then you are going to feel absolutely ravenous during your next meal and eat much faster. This can lead to you eating more than you really need to because when you eat very fast you don’t realize you are full until it’s too late and you have that “stuffed” feeling. So, eating a snack like a piece of fruit, a cup of yogurt or sugar-free Jell-o, or even a 100 calorie pack of fruit snacks can help you keep your hunger (and weight) under control.

DealDash Loves Healthy Snacks

DealDash

Do you love healthy snacks? DealDash does! Snacking can be part of a healthy diet. Here are some suggestions for healthy snacks.

There’s nothing wrong with snacking, especially if you choose foods that are healthy. No one likes being hungry between meals, even those of us who are trying to get into shape. Read these suggestions from DealDash to get some ideas for healthy snacks.

Try a Healthy Snack Plate

Firstly, I feel like if you are actually hungry, something like a carrot or apple doesn’t really make you feel less hungry. However, if you put a selection of very healthy foods on a plate it feels like you are actually feeding your hunger instead of just nibbling. For example, you can put carrot and celery sticks, apple wedges, and pepper rings on a plate together and it’s not only cute and colorful, but feels like more of a meal since you are having multiple colors, textures, and both sweet and savory.

DealDash List of Yummy Snack Suggestions

Next, if you aren’t feeling like plain cut up fruits and veggies, here are a couple of snacks that are a little more creative:

Cut up veggies, but with homemade ranch dip!! Having a ranch dip on the side makes your snack feel more like a party! It’s very simple to make, you just need ranch powder and low-fat sour cream. Your homemade ranch dip will only take a couple of minutes to make and has less than 100 calories.

Homemade trail mix. Now, don’t try and take a “shortcut” by getting a pre-made trail mix at the store, it’s full of fat, calories, and sugar. That’s not the healthy snack that we are looking for. Make it yourself at home. Instead of peanuts, use almonds. Instead of milk chocolate bits, use a very tiny amount of cut-up dark chocolate. You can also add lots of raisins, dried cranberries, dried apple slices, and dried strawberries. This trail mix is delicious and much healthier than the original version.

Homemade salsa is both delicious and healthy. There are tons of different recipes out there, but the base of most of them are crushed tomatoes, garlic, lime, salt, and green peppers. All of those items, with the exception of salt, are extremely healthy! Just use a pinch of salt or even one of the “salt alternatives” that you can find in the spices section at the supermarket.
