DealDash Tips for Using a Robotic Vacuum

iRobot Roomba i7 7150 Wi-Fi Connected Robot Vacuum Cleaner

Robotic vacuums are a must if you have pets that shed or kids who drop crumbs. Read on for some tips to get the best use out of your robotic vacuum.

Using a robotic vacuum is a growing craze. To be honest, it makes you feel like you’re accomplishing so much more. It’s one less chore that you have to do, and it’s a beautiful thing to not have to carry your vacuum around. Unfortunately, what they don’t tell you is that you still have some work to do. Read on for some tips and information from DealDash regarding robotic vacuums.

Finding the Right Spot

The first thing you have to consider where you’re going to put your base. The vacuum will consistently return to its base to empty out whatever it was able to suck up from the floor. This is also where the charge will take place. It’s important to be sure that there is nothing preventing it from getting back into the base. You also want to be sure that it’s not in a very high traffic area where the vacuum will be stepped on. Also, you will need a plug to charge it, so that will also influence your decision of where your robot calls “home”.

Try to Keep the Room Tidy

Secondly, I know it seems counter-productive, but you have to clean the room that the vacuum is going to be working in. Most vacuums can’t handle any type of bumps or blocks as they work through a room. That means that you can’t have anything on the floor, or your vacuum will run into problems. Make sure that there aren’t any blankets, toys, or cords thrown about. A robotic vacuum can work around things like furniture because they’re too heavy for the vacuum to move. When it comes to something like a wire or blanket, the vacuums struggle to get over them. Or worse, can suck them into their motors and need to be rescued.

Think About Timing

Also, timing is important when you get your new vacuum. The newer models are much quieter than the first models that came out, but they still make some noise. It’s probably not ideal to have the vacuum run in the middle of the night. Try to set a time that isn’t going to make you stop what you’re doing, but also keep in mind that it should be a time that you’re awake and can handle a little extra noise. Personally, I have mine set to clean at 10AM every morning. It takes him about an hour, so he is done long before my youngest takes a nap after lunch.

DealDash Completes the Small Projects

DealDash

Getting all of the projects around the house done can be daunting. However, DealDash has some tips to help.

We all have a bit of a honey-do list at home. Sometimes it comes from our spouse and sometimes we create it ourselves, but then push the projects off. Don’t feel bad about it, this happens to everyone. Take a little time to read this article from DealDash, and then get started!

Planning and Accountability

Holding yourself accountable is key. When I decide something needs to get done, I write it on a dry erase board hanging in my kitchen. It reminds me every day that I have something on the chopping block. It’s hard to miss big those red letters when I’m sitting at our island sipping coffee.

Create a Shopping Day

Sometimes, the biggest issue is getting started. If I have a few projects that I’m putting off, I tend to go to run to the store and pick up everything I’ll need for those projects. It’s even harder to push something off when I see that it needs to be done and I already have everything I’ll need. It also helps when I get frustrated by that project popping up again, I’m already ready to go.

Try to Make it a Party

They say that many hands make light work. Ask around to see if a few friends are willing to come over and help. We completed a $6,000 kitchen remodel last year for about $1,700 because I was able to get a few people to come over and help out. You obviously need some experience and knowledge, but sometimes manpower is enough to get your project done.

When it comes to something like painting a room, there is less expertise needed. Just make sure that you take a little extra time with painter’s tape and drop cloths. Inexperienced painters are fine, they just tend to be a bit messier.

Sometimes You Need to Call in Back-Up

Sometimes, we just can’t do things on our own. There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s important to realize when you’re in over your head. When you realize that, accept that it’s time to call in a professional. There’s nothing worse than thinking you can fix a small problem and having it blow up in your face (figuratively or literally).

If you honestly don’t know how to fix the problem that just came up, accept it and reach out to a professional. Trying to troubleshoot on your own could lead to a larger problem. Larger problems lead to larger bills.

DealDash Organizes in January

DealDash

It’s official! The holidays are over and it’s time to clean up. Here are some cleaning suggestions from DealDash.

Everyone knows about spring cleaning, but a thorough cleaning in January just might be even more important. Your house is cluttered with old toys, new gifts, decorations, and more food than you can handle. Read these ideas from DealDash and then get started.

Put Away the Tree and Decorations

Start your new year by taking down the decorations from Christmas and trying to find their place. It’s amazing how much more space you’ll have when the decorations are put away. Next, look at downsizing a bit. You can throw away those decorations that are worn out.

Also, you should look at getting rid of some of your children’s toys, and you should consider getting rid of some of your own toys as well. We all have those clothes, toys, or knickknacks that have seen better days. Consider donating the older stuff now that you have something new. I like to use the “1 in 1 out” rule at my house, and it can be a bit overwhelming with 3 kids and a giant pile of new toys and clothing.

Solutions for Cords and Cables

Consider having a set box for certain things. In our house, we have a box of a/v cords that we keep on hand. There may more than we need, but you never know when the cable you’re using will short out. Whether it’s your excess wrapping supplies, cords, or batteries, you can find a space to save them for the future without cluttering up the house. You can also pick a drawer in the kitchen, get a cutlery separator for it, and store your cords in the different sections.

Shampoo the Carpets and Clean the Vents

As we’ve been hosting Christmas over the years, we’ve found that January is the perfect time to shampoo the carpets. We opted to buy a shampooer, but you may prefer to just rent one. Either way, there’s something almost therapeutic about watching the dirt slowly disappear from your carpet. As a result, the sense of pride and accomplishment as you see your carpet return back to its original color is amazing.

Also, if you’re willing to do the deep cleaning, consider your vents and filters. It’s not something that most people think about, but your air filters typically last about 3 months. The New Year is a good time to double-check how well your filters are holding up. While you’re at it, consider the filters in your fridge and checking the batteries in your smoke detector.

DealDash Cleans Up After Christmas

DealDash

Now that the presents have been unwrapped it’s time to clean! The week or two after Christmas is a great time to clean and get organized. Here are a few ideas from DealDash.

There’s nothing better than spending the holidays with your family; love, laughter, and everyone gathering around the fire for carols. What you never see in those holiday movies is the fact that someone has to clean up after Christmas. In the end, someone has to do it, so we wanted to offer some suggestions. Read on for some great suggestions from DealDash.

Keep Trash Bags Handy

First and foremost, keep a trash bag with you at all times. Okay, that may be a bit extreme, but you should try to keep something in reach. Whether you’re opening gifts, opening the packages for toys, or preparing dinner, there will be trash. If you can toss it into a bag without much effort, your holiday season is going to be much easier. This is especially true for the week or so after Christmas when everyone is unwrapping their new clothing and toys. There seems to be an abundance of cardboard, plastic, and paper gift tags everywhere. Keep your trash bag handy.

DealDash Will Help You Stay Organized

Trying to stay organized is a must. It’s a chaotic time when the entire family is there and the kids want to run around, but try to have a process. Being organized using shelving units, baskets, and bookshelves and racks is the perfect way to clean up after Christmas. DealDash can help you with all of these organizational items. DealDash has some especially nice children’s storage items. Just click here to see them.

Stay 2 Steps Ahead of the Mess

Plan how you’re going to clean up when you’re setting things out. I couldn’t get our lights back into their box properly if my life depended on it. I’d much rather wrap them around a piece of cardboard. Our Christmas tree, on the other hand, is much better off in its box. Know how you’re going to put things away. Know where they go and if it’s worth the hassle of trying to fit it back in the box or not.

Thanks for Reading

Planning is always the key. If you know what you’re doing ahead of time, you’ll be able to eliminate most of the stress. Use these suggestions and keep the amount of cleaning to a minimum while still maintaining your organization after the holidays are over. Thanks so much for reading this DealDash article on cleaning and organization.
