DealDash Makes an Emergency Kit

DealDash

From wildfires to earthquakes and hurricanes, no matter where you live you should have an emergency kit. Read on below for suggestions from DealDash.

Let’s face it – there are a lot of dangerous things happening with the weather no matter what region you live in. This is why it’s important to have an emergency kit in your home in case you need to evacuate in a hurry. Read on for some tips, ideas, and suggestions from DealDash to create an emergency kit.

Emergency Kit Container – Check DealDash First

To begin with, you will need to find a container to keep your emergency kit in. You don’t want it to be too small because it won’t fit all of your items. Alternately, you don’t want it to be too large and bulky either- you want it to be easy to grab on your way out the door. You will definitely want your container to have a handle or a strap, so while it might be cheap and easy, a box is not a great choice.

Personally, I think the best choice is something like a duffle or gym bag. However, a piece of luggage is also a good choice. Whichever container you choose, selection of luggage and bags to choose from. You will find full-size luggage, carry-ons, duffle bags, and more!

Add Your Supplies

Next, it’s time to add your emergency supplies. You will want to put in some shelf-stable food such as protein bars, nuts, dried fruit, and bottled water. The amount of food you put in depends on the number of people in your family, of course. Don’t forget to pack food and water for your pet, if you have one. Next, add a few first aid supplies. Pack band-aids, hand sanitizer, alcohol pads, gauze wrap, and a roll of medical tape. Additionally, be sure you pack a couple of flashlights and batteries and a small radio.

For Christmas last year I received a cool little device – it was a flashlight/radio combo that was battery/solar/crank powered. This can save a lot of space if you can find one. The Red Cross website has tons of helpful articles on being prepared for an emergency if you’re interested in learning more.

Include Copies of Important Papers

Finally, you should add copies of all of your important papers. Include your lease or home loan, health and property insurance, driver’s license and passport, car insurance and loan information, and shot records for your pets. You should also include updated photos of all family members, including pets if you have any. Remember, the safest place for your originals is in a safe deposit box, but if you don’t have one they should be in a fire-proof safe.

DealDash’s To Do List Before You Go on Spring Break

DealDash

Spring Break is coming quickly. If you’re planning to take any sort of vacation, it’s important that you get things ready. DealDash can help.

Spring break is coming, and if you are going on a trip there are things you need to do now to prepare. Read this article from DealDash, make a checklist, and be prepared!

Don’t Forget Your Pets

Many people wait until the last minute to think of their pets when considering a vacation. Come up with a plan for how your pet is going to be taken care of. There are plenty of pet-friendly hotels if that’s the way you’d like to go. If not, look for a local pet sitter or kennel that can help. There are even some pet-hotels that function as a bed and breakfast for people and a kennel for dogs. It ensures your pet will get some socialization while you’re gone.

Make Sure Your House is Prepared

Make sure your house is taken care of while you’re gone. Do you need to set up the sprinkler system? Maybe you can have a neighbor come over to water your garden instead. You may also want to consider the mail if you’re going to be gone for a week or so. If you don’t have a neighbor that can help you out, you can call the post office to tell them to hold your mail while you’re gone.

Another key preparation that I like to make is setting an automation schedule inside the house. With today’s technology, I like to set my thermostat in cycles. I turn the heat/ac on so that at night it can be a bit cooler and during the day, it’s typically a bit warmer. If you’d rather just turn your thermostat down while you’re gone, that’s fine as well. In the same thought, we have automated lights. I set a schedule so that the lights turn on and off by themselves. It seems a bit crazy, but it offers us some peace of mind knowing that it’s a little less obvious that we’re gone. Think of the movie Home Alone!

DealDash Travel Tips for the Holidays

DealDashLots of fun family holidays are coming up soon. If you’re traveling for the holiday you will want to read this new DealDash article.

The holidays are always a very busy season for travel, both by air and by car. Thanksgiving is next week, and Christmas is just around the corner. Now is a great time to make your travel plans. Read this DealDash article and get some tips!

Driving or Flying This Season?

Firstly, you need to choose how you will get to your holiday celebration. Are you going to drive or fly? Be sure to plan ahead and do your research on routes, flights, and prices. Be sure to check different airlines to compare different costs for flights. If you’re driving you will want to see how long it takes, where you can stop for a break, and factor in the cost of gas.

DealDash Can Assist With Packing

For short trips, like a long weekend around the holidays, a carry-on bag is a great choice. If you need a fresh new carry-on bag you can obtain one from DealDash. DealDash has very nice high-quality luggage. They are much nicer than the ones at the local big box store. You can simply click this link right here and check out the luggage that DealDash offers up for auction.

If you’re a mom like me, then you probably end up packing for more than just yourself! I have 3 kids to pack for as well as myself, so I like to start early. Typically I try to do a load of laundry and pack as I am folding the clean clothes. I feel like it saves an extra step – then when we come home I unpack all of the dirty clothes directly back into the washing machine! Go ahead, treat yourself to some new luggage. Just click here.

Make a List

You will also want to make a list of things you have to do before you leave for your trip. Be sure to think of everything, because there’s nothing worse than being halfway to your destination and remember something that you either forgot to do or to pack. Here is an example of what my list usually looks like:

  • Fill automatic water and food bowls for the cats (if we are away for more than 2 days I get a pet sitter)
  • Make sure the litterbox has fresh litter
  • Turn the heat down to 65
  • Check to make sure all appliances are off/unplugged
  • Check all window and door locks
  • Bring medicine

DealDash’s Top 3 Items to Pack for Vacation

DealDash

Now that the weather is warmer I’m sure you’re thinking about summer vacation. Here are the top 3 things you will want to pack, from DealDash.

Summertime is approaching, and it is time to pack your bags and go on a vacation. Packing for a vacation may seem stressful, but it does not have to be. No matter where you go on your summer vacation, there are some essential items that you should pack. Here are the top 3 things to pack on a summer vacation. Read on for more information from DealDash.

Sunblock

During the summer the sun is scorching hot. It is important to bring sunblock to protect your skin from the sun. Your skin is very sensitive and can easily burn especially if you are tanning. A sunscreen with at least SPF 30 is the most effective. You can buy sunblock from drug stores and mass merchandise stores. You will need to re-apply the sunblock every few hours for maximum sunburn protection.

Beach Towel

Are you heading to a beach resort or going to the beach on a regular basis this summer? Having a beach towel is essential during summer vacation. When sitting on the sand, you should not use a regular towel. A beach towel is thicker and can be a barrier between your body and the sand. Although you may want to feel the sand between your toes, it is best to sit on a beach towel. You can find beach towels in mass merchandise stores or even in discount stores.

Bathing Suits

If you are going on a summer vacation, chances are you are going to be around water. If you love to swim or plan to go to a water park, you should pack plenty of bathing suits. When you pack bathing suits, you do not have to worry about messing up your clothes. If you are a male, you should pack swim trunks. You can buy bathing suits at any big box store or at specialty swim or sports shops.
