DealDash Food: Time for Apple Pie

DealDash

It is apple picking season here in New England. Here is a fast and simple apple pie recipe that is yummy and quick to make. Read on for more information, from DealDash.

Apple pie is a fall dessert staple. No Thanksgiving is complete without an apple pie, preferably homemade. Personally, I don’t have a lot of time to spend in the kitchen, so I like to make “half homemade” pie. Read on for a delicious recipe for apple pie, from DealDash.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Box refrigerated pie crusts, softened as directed on box
  • 7-9 medium apples – peeled and sliced. Make the slices on the thinner side.
  • 1/3 cup of sugar
  • 2 TB all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp (just a pinch) ground cloves
  • 1 TB lemon juice

Preparation:

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F.
  2. Place 1 pie crust in ungreased 9-inch glass pie plate. Press firmly against side and bottom.
  3. Mix filling ingredients together in a large bowl.
  4. Ladle your mixture into your crust-lined pie plate.
  5. Top it off with a second crust, wrapping the excess top crust under the bottom crust edge. Press the edges together to seal.
  6. Firmly squeeze the edges around the pie, then make a few small slices in the top crust. This will help to vent the pie.
  7. Bake for 45 minutes.
  8. After the first 20 minutes, cover the outside edge of the crust with 3-inch wide strips of foil. This will prevent too much browning.
  9. Let cool, then serve.

This apple pie will be the hit of your next family dinner. You can also make extra pies and store them in the freezer and reheat them in the oven for the next get-together.

DealDash Ideas to Save on Winter Heat Bills

DealDash

Winter heating bills can be hard on the budget. Here are some ideas to save on heating, from DealDash.

During the winter many people stay inside unless they are going to work or school.  It is important to stay warm in the winter and protect your body from getting too cold. One of the ways to do that is heating. Heating can become expensive in the winter because your heater continually needs to be on. If you are looking for ways to cut back on your heating expense, here are 3 tips for saving on heating in the winter, from DealDash.

Warm Clothes & Blankets (DealDash Has Them!)

Wearing shorts and a tank top does not make sense during the winter even when you are inside your home. Put on a sweater, fuzzy socks, and a sweatshirt. You can put on a soft and cozy blanket over you to cuddle up and watch TV on the couch or read a book. If you have a hardwood floor, you can put rugs on the carpet to keep the floor warm.

If your blankets and bathrobe aren’t as warm as you would like, you will be happy to hear that DealDash has new ones for you. Starting with robes, DealDash has them in all sizes from S-XXL. They are currently offered in both white and gray. Both colors are warm, cozy, and soft. To see the robes, click here.

Next, DealDash also has throw blankets. These delightful and warm blankets are just perfect to leave on your couch for those chilly fall nights. To see the throw blankets, just click here.

Bake More Roasts and Cookies!

Many people choose not to cook in the oven when it is hot out because the heat can spread through the house. However, in winter, cooking in the oven can help warm your home as well as give you a delicious meal. In the winter cooking in the oven can help save you on your heating costs, especially if you cook something that takes all day like a turkey or big roast.

Put Plastic Covers Over the Windows

Cold air can get through the cracks of a window during the winter. Putting plastic covers over the windows can keep the cold air from coming into your home. You do not use all of your doors and windows during the wintertime, so it is best to cover them up. Hardware stores, as well as big box stores, sell window kits. If you don’t want to spend the money on plastic covers, you can use a blanket or towel.

DealDash Tips to Stay Healthy This Winter

DealDash

Winter is coming! And that means it’s more difficult to stay healthy. Here are some ideas from DealDash to help you and your family.

With winter arriving soon the cooler weather will soon be here and with it issues like colds and the flu. You will want to do your best to keep yourself and your family as healthy as possible in cooler weather. Here are some tips to keep in mind to keep you feeling your best during the colder months of the year. Read on for more information from DealDash.

Dress Properly for the Weather

You need to start dressing for the weather. For example, since the mornings are going to be cooler than the evenings for some time you should wear layers. This way you can easily remove or add as the temperature changes. This way you will not run the risk of catching a cold or the flu for not being dressed properly. Make sure that your kids are dressed properly when they go out as well.

Wash Those Hands

You should also make sure that you and your family are practicing good hygiene and habits that will keep you all healthy during the colder months of the year. You need to do things like washing your hands frequently and taking vitamins and eating healthy. These are excellent ideas for keeping everyone healthy during cooler weather.

Don’t Share Germs

Doing your best to stay away from people who are ill is another thing you can do to help keep yourself healthy in cooler weather. If someone is sick in your home do your best to isolate them so others in the household do not get ill as well. When you are dealing with a sick person at school or work remember to practice good hygiene to keep yourself as safe from getting ill as possible. IF you are a person who is prone to getting ill often you might want to consider getting yourself a box of paper masks to wear when you are required to interact with someone who is sick.

There’s a little less than two short weeks until Christmas is here, and three until the New Year. This is the perfect time to count out blessings with DealDash and be thankful for the good things in life.

No matter who you are, where you live, and what your lifestyle entails – we all have something good going on in our lives. Everyone’s life, wants, and needs are different, some of have many blessings and some of us have few. However, let’s try to come up with some blessings that are pretty much universal.

Family – Most people have a family, and the lucky ones have lots of family members. Family is there for you when you are sad and need comforting, and family is right there with you for your triumphs and celebrations. Family is a wonderful blessing to have.

Friends – They say that friends are the family that you choose for yourself. If you have one true friend, you are truly blessed. It’s also a blessing to have many friends as well, and one of the great things about friends are you can always expand your circle for more.

Health – Not everyone has the blessing of good health, but we should all be thankful for the days that we are feeling well. Good health is something that can change at any moment, so make the most of your healthy days, they are truly a blessing. If you’d like to have more healthy days try some low-impact exercise such as walking or gentle yoga.

Hobbies – Most people have a hobby that they enjoy that makes their life more enjoyable. Hobbies come in all forms, and no matter if your favorite hobby is fishing, reading, knitting, golf, baking, or something completely different we should all be thankful that we have something in our lives that we can enjoy in our leisure time.

Some of us have many blessings, and some of us have few – but there’s one great thing in our lives that we all have in common...DealDash! DealDash Thinks About Presents

Image result for pile of presents

Even though it’s not even Halloween yet Christmas decorations are already decorating the shelves of the local stores. I guess it’s not to early to start thinking about Christmas presents…

Do you have any idea yet what you are planning to get for your kids, your mom, your friend? Well, if you start shopping (and winning!) now on DealDash you will be able to get everyone taken care of, presents wrapped, and ready to go before Christmas is here. And when you think about it like that, it’s actually a present to yourself! Shopping early means no waiting in long lines, no last-minute splurges, and no guilt that you didn’t think of the perfect present. It sounds like it’s time to get shopping. Here are a few ideas that you might want to think about in terms of gifting this year…

Bluetooth headphones – Bluetooth headphones are a great gift for many people. They are perfect for people who love to exercise, of course, but they are also great for the people on your list who love to try out the latest gadgets. Even your mom or grandma might like bluetooth headphones for doing gardening or yard work outside, or even in the kitchen for when they are cooking and can’t pick up the phone when someone calls. They are also great for teenagers and kids as well – but not kids that are too young, you don’t want them getting lost.

Back massager- A back massager is the perfect gift for just about anyone over the age of 30. You can go cheaper with a non-electronic one, they actually have some really nice ones at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Or if you’re feeling spendy you can get a much nicer one that has electronic rollers, heat, and various speeds and firmness. I personally have both types of mechanical and non-mechanical, and I can say that both are great!

Decorative clock –  A decorative clock is a nice present for someone who you want to give a gift to, but you aren’t very close, or you just have no idea what they need or like. Almost everyone could use a decorative clock, whether they plan on putting it somewhere on display such as the mantle, or just to use as a decoration in their guest room. It’s a completely non-offensive, useful, and fun item that would be a nice present for an aunt that you don’t see that often, or a neighbor that you aren’t sure of their hobbies or interests.

Kitchen gadget – If you’re in a quandary of what to get someone but you know that they enjoy cooking, how about a kitchen gadget? You could get them a nice ceramic knife, a beautiful tea kettle, or a fun set of dessert plates. The choices are practically endless when you are choosing a fun kitchen gadget.
