DealDash Presents: Setting Goals for Kids

DealDash

Kids who have goals have something to strive towards. Here are some tips on setting goals for kids, from DealDash.

This is going to be a difficult school year, with some kids going to school in-person, some learning at home, and some doing a hybrid model. However, it’s important that you should help your kids in setting some goals for themselves. Read these tips for ideas on setting goals for kids. Read on for more information from DealDash.

Don’t Set Unreasonable Goals

To begin with, it’s important to help your kids in setting reasonable goals. If you give your child some reasonable suggestions to choose from, it can make it easier for them. Don’t overwhelm them, just offer a few suggestions for them to think about. This way your child will be less frustrated in the process of setting and reaching their goals. By setting small goals at first your child will be able to achieve them and set slightly harder goals each time. This will build confidence and make them feel great about themselves.

Brainstorm on Paper

Next, even though many kids have computers and cell phones now, there’s just something about brainstorming on paper that helps you think. Also, physically writing the goals down gives your kid something to see to remind them what their goals are. You can give them a special notebook, or you can get a corkboard with pushpins, or even make a poster with them. After your kids set their goals and write them down, they can refer back to them and check them off when they have been accomplished. Brainstorming on paper can take a little practice at first. PBS Kids has a great article explaining how to teach your kids to brainstorm. Check it out right here.

Celebrate Accomplished Goals

Finally, once your child has accomplished their goal, it’s important to celebrate! This can be something as small as having a popsicle from the freezer or something as big as a trip out to their favorite restaurant. It all depends on how difficult the goal was, and how difficult it was for them to achieve it. Of course, accomplishing a goal is a reward on its own, but there’s nothing wrong with a little celebration sometimes!
