From wildfires to earthquakes and hurricanes, no matter where you live you should have an emergency kit. Read on below for suggestions from DealDash.

Let’s face it – there are a lot of dangerous things happening with the weather no matter what region you live in. This is why it’s important to have an emergency kit in your home in case you need to evacuate in a hurry. Read on for some tips, ideas, and suggestions from DealDash to create an emergency kit.

Emergency Kit Container – Check DealDash First

To begin with, you will need to find a container to keep your emergency kit in. You don’t want it to be too small because it won’t fit all of your items. Alternately, you don’t want it to be too large and bulky either- you want it to be easy to grab on your way out the door. You will definitely want your container to have a handle or a strap, so while it might be cheap and easy, a box is not a great choice.

Personally, I think the best choice is something like a duffle or gym bag. However, a piece of luggage is also a good choice. Whichever container you choose, selection of luggage and bags to choose from. You will find full-size luggage, carry-ons, duffle bags, and more!

Add Your Supplies

Next, it’s time to add your emergency supplies. You will want to put in some shelf-stable food such as protein bars, nuts, dried fruit, and bottled water. The amount of food you put in depends on the number of people in your family, of course. Don’t forget to pack food and water for your pet, if you have one. Next, add a few first aid supplies. Pack band-aids, hand sanitizer, alcohol pads, gauze wrap, and a roll of medical tape. Additionally, be sure you pack a couple of flashlights and batteries and a small radio.

For Christmas last year I received a cool little device – it was a flashlight/radio combo that was battery/solar/crank powered. This can save a lot of space if you can find one. Include Copies of Important Papers

Finally, you should add copies of all of your important papers. Include your lease or home loan, health and property insurance, driver’s license and passport, car insurance and loan information, and shot records for your pets. You should also include updated photos of all family members, including pets if you have any. Remember, the safest place for your originals is in a safe deposit box, but if you don’t have one they should be in a fire-proof safe.
