DealDash Helps: Be More “Green”

We only get one Earth to make our home upon. Let’s treat it kindly by being environmentally friendly.

Most people have heard the phrases “Going green” or “Eco Friendly” and agree with their sentiments in theory, but are they putting any effort into being kind to the environment? Here are a few simple tips and easy ways to lessen your footprint on the Earth.

  • Recycle – Most companies have recycling bins at every printer and copy machine, but are you doing your part to recycle at home as well? My family tries to do our part, and luckily the town that I live in offers the “no sort” recycling bins, so we can toss all of the recyclable items such as cans and bottles, newspapers and magazines, and cardboard boxes all into one big recycle bin that is picked up every week. Go to your city or town’s website and find the waste management section. From there you will be able to find out your town or city’s policy on recycling.
  • Save Electricity – Turning off the lights when you exit a room is a given, but there are so many other ways to save on electricity such as turning your thermostat just a few degrees up or down, depending on the season. I personally would prefer my house to be at 70 degrees year round, but in the winter we turn it to 68, and in the summer to 72 to save on power. You can also save a lot of electricity by setting your computer to sleep mode when you are away for short periods of time. Be sure to go to your computer’s control panel and adjust the power management features to power down to lowest energy use, or sleep mode. A computer in sleep mode can save 60-70% of power!
  • Cook at Home – Surprisingly cooking at home can be very environmentally friendly. Not only can you recycle the packaging that your ingredients come in, you can also save your leftovers in plastic tupperware instead of using a styrofoam take-out container. Another big plus of eating at home is you are not using your car and burning gas to get to a restaurant.
