DealDash Organizes in January

DealDash

It’s official! The holidays are over and it’s time to clean up. Here are some cleaning suggestions from DealDash.

Everyone knows about spring cleaning, but a thorough cleaning in January just might be even more important. Your house is cluttered with old toys, new gifts, decorations, and more food than you can handle. Read these ideas from DealDash and then get started.

Put Away the Tree and Decorations

Start your new year by taking down the decorations from Christmas and trying to find their place. It’s amazing how much more space you’ll have when the decorations are put away. Next, look at downsizing a bit. You can throw away those decorations that are worn out.

Also, you should look at getting rid of some of your children’s toys, and you should consider getting rid of some of your own toys as well. We all have those clothes, toys, or knickknacks that have seen better days. Consider donating the older stuff now that you have something new. I like to use the “1 in 1 out” rule at my house, and it can be a bit overwhelming with 3 kids and a giant pile of new toys and clothing.

Solutions for Cords and Cables

Consider having a set box for certain things. In our house, we have a box of a/v cords that we keep on hand. There may more than we need, but you never know when the cable you’re using will short out. Whether it’s your excess wrapping supplies, cords, or batteries, you can find a space to save them for the future without cluttering up the house. You can also pick a drawer in the kitchen, get a cutlery separator for it, and store your cords in the different sections.

Shampoo the Carpets and Clean the Vents

As we’ve been hosting Christmas over the years, we’ve found that January is the perfect time to shampoo the carpets. We opted to buy a shampooer, but you may prefer to just rent one. Either way, there’s something almost therapeutic about watching the dirt slowly disappear from your carpet. As a result, the sense of pride and accomplishment as you see your carpet return back to its original color is amazing.

Also, if you’re willing to do the deep cleaning, consider your vents and filters. It’s not something that most people think about, but your air filters typically last about 3 months. The New Year is a good time to double-check how well your filters are holding up. While you’re at it, consider the filters in your fridge and checking the batteries in your smoke detector.

DealDash Cleans Up After Christmas

DealDash

Now that the presents have been unwrapped it’s time to clean! The week or two after Christmas is a great time to clean and get organized. Here are a few ideas from DealDash.

There’s nothing better than spending the holidays with your family; love, laughter, and everyone gathering around the fire for carols. What you never see in those holiday movies is the fact that someone has to clean up after Christmas. In the end, someone has to do it, so we wanted to offer some suggestions. Read on for some great suggestions from DealDash.

Keep Trash Bags Handy

First and foremost, keep a trash bag with you at all times. Okay, that may be a bit extreme, but you should try to keep something in reach. Whether you’re opening gifts, opening the packages for toys, or preparing dinner, there will be trash. If you can toss it into a bag without much effort, your holiday season is going to be much easier. This is especially true for the week or so after Christmas when everyone is unwrapping their new clothing and toys. There seems to be an abundance of cardboard, plastic, and paper gift tags everywhere. Keep your trash bag handy.

DealDash Will Help You Stay Organized

Trying to stay organized is a must. It’s a chaotic time when the entire family is there and the kids want to run around, but try to have a process. Being organized using shelving units, baskets, and bookshelves and racks is the perfect way to clean up after Christmas. DealDash can help you with all of these organizational items. DealDash has some especially nice children’s storage items. Just click here to see them.

Stay 2 Steps Ahead of the Mess

Plan how you’re going to clean up when you’re setting things out. I couldn’t get our lights back into their box properly if my life depended on it. I’d much rather wrap them around a piece of cardboard. Our Christmas tree, on the other hand, is much better off in its box. Know how you’re going to put things away. Know where they go and if it’s worth the hassle of trying to fit it back in the box or not.

Thanks for Reading

Planning is always the key. If you know what you’re doing ahead of time, you’ll be able to eliminate most of the stress. Use these suggestions and keep the amount of cleaning to a minimum while still maintaining your organization after the holidays are over. Thanks so much for reading this DealDash article on cleaning and organization.

Now that the season is in full swing with snow and ice, you need to start thinking about heating your home for the winter. Unfortunately, this becomes incredibly expensive, especially if you live in a colder climate. Here are a few ways you can save on heating your home this winter, from DealDash.

Seal Windows and Cracks

You might not realize it, but you lose a lot of heat through your windows and under and around your doors. Try to work on eliminating all the drafts in your home by using a few simple supplies. You can get kits to cover windows to get rid of drafts for a very reasonable price, they are simple sheets of plastic with double-sided tape. After putting them up you can use a hairdryer on them to shrink the plastic extra tight. Also, consider getting some sealant to eliminate any small cracks around your windows and window sills.

Get an Energy Evaluation

Many electric companies will come to your home and do an energy evaluation for free. They come and check your appliances and other items around the home to tell you how you can save on energy. They typically offer big discounts on new insulation, LED bulbs, and power strips. Give your electric company a call and see if they offer this free service.

DealDash Guide to Organizing Your Bookshelf

DealDash

Books can make a house look comfortable and welcoming. Here are some ideas from DealDash for organizing the books on your bookshelf.

Many people are starting to read their books online, but I don’t think that paperback and hardcover books will be going away anytime soon. I know a number of people who still love the feel of a book in their hands. They say there’s something special about turn the page rather than just swiping it. So, we’ve decided to take a few minutes to look at how you can keep those books organized. Read on for some organizational ideas from DealDash.

Cleaning and Dusting

First, you should start by cleaning everything out. It doesn’t take long for books (and spaces between them) to collect dust. Anytime I plan to re-organize, I take everything off and wipe my bookcases down. Once you’ve thoroughly cleaned you should consider how you want your books organized.

Get a Bookcase From DealDash

In the course of cleaning and dusting, you might find that your bookcase is old and/or has some damage. Since your books are already off of the shelf, it’s a great time to get a new bookshelf. DealDash has bookcases, shelves, and racks that your books would love to live on. Choose from wood, wire, and other materials. You can choose from traditional or modern styles. Just click here and you will find some beautiful bookcases from DealDash.

Organize Alphabetically

A number of people like to go alphabetically. Much like the library, having a perfect system makes it easy to find what you’re looking for. You could do this by the last name of the author or by the title. I prefer using titles as I don’t always remember who the author was when I’m looking for something.

Organize By Topic

Others look to organize by topic. They find that knowing what style they want to read is more important than finding a specific book. My favorite books are typically the same genre, so this doesn’t really work for me. If you have a large library, it can be a great way of encouraging yourself to pick up a book you haven’t seen in a few years.

Organize Visually

You may also decide to focus on aesthetics and not organize your books in any particular way. This option works really well if your bookcase is used for its visual as much as its practical uses. If you have a small library at home, this may be the way to go. I love to randomize the books so that the height varies from left to right. This adds a bit of texture to the bookcase.

Thanks for Reading

Thanks so much for reading this DealDash article on bookshelf organization. The key to bookshelf organization is to find a way you like to organize your books and stick with it. Remember to put your book back in the proper place before you take out another one, and it will stay perfectly organized. Use these ideas and keep the amount of time spent organizing to a minimum.

DealDash Helps: Organize Your Gift Wrapping

DealDash

Black Friday is almost here, and that means lots of wrapping! Wrapping gifts is fun, but it can be tricky to get organized. Don’t worry, DealDash can help.

Christmas is one of my favorite holidays, but the process of getting ready for the holidays can be pretty chaotic. Things go more smoothly when organized. Below is a quick summary of an organized way to keep your gift wrapping simple. Read on for more information from DealDash.

Storage Solutions

Preparation is half the battle. I use old wrapping paper tubes to hold my unused wrapping paper together. Using it as a cuff keeps the current roll from unraveling. I like to keep all of the name tags that I have in a small plastic container. It also helps to keep the bows and ribbon neatly put away in the same area. Typically, I have one large plastic bin that all of these go into. If the wrapping paper won’t fit, it goes on top of the lid. There are custom wrapping paper bins for sale at many big box stores. Try snagging one after the holiday for a great deal.

Beautiful Storage Options on DealDash

However, you don’t have to settle for clear plastic storage bins when you have DealDash! You will find lots of options in the Home, Garden, and Tools category. There is an excellent product that is sometimes offered that has wall storage comprised of small baskets. This would be an excellent place to store your tape, scissors, and tags as well as ribbon. There are also storage cubes and shelves on DealDash. Just click here to check out the auctions.

The Wrapping Process

When I’m getting started, I like to clear the space I’ll be using. Typically, I try to use a kitchen table because of the size of the flat surface area. I stack my gifts based on who they’re going to and when I will need the gift. Family gifts go first, followed by friends, then co-workers, and finally any Christmas Party or White Elephant gifts that I’ll need.

I take one stack and put it to my left. I write out a name tag for my first gift.  And then I wrap the present, put the name tag on it, then set it off to my right. As I wrap more gifts, I stack them up until I complete the full stack. Once I finish the family stack, I set them back in their designated area and move on to the next stack.

By writing the name tag out first, I’m making sure I can’t forget who the gift belongs to. By keeping stacks separate, I’m able to be sure I know where the gifts are going and I’m able to check off who I’ve finished my gifts for to be sure I’m not missing anything.

Thanks for Reading

Personally, I love wrapping gifts. However, if you aren’t a fan, these tips should make your time easier with better organization. Thanks so much for reading this DealDash article on gift wrapping. I hope that it was helpful to you.
