DealDash Dog Grooming at Home

DealDash

If you have a dirty doggie, you can groom him at home. Here are some tips and tricks from DealDash.

Earlier this week we talked about how to wash your dog if he gets sprayed by a skunk. If you missed that article, then just click right here to read it. Sometimes your dog might get a little stinky even without getting sprayed by a skunk. Keep reading to get more information about grooming your dog at home.

Brush His Teeth Daily

You wouldn’t skip a day without brushing your teeth (I hope!) so why should your dog? He might hate it at first, but if you continue brushing his teeth every day he will eventually get used to it and co-operate with you when you do his daily brushing.

In addition to brushing his teeth, there are also different sorts of dog chews on the market that are meant to clean your dog’s teeth. These are really not a substitute for actual teeth brushing no matter what it says on the package, but they make a nice addition to regular teeth brushing. They can also be used when you aren’t able to brush your dog’s teeth such as if you have a dog-sitter for the weekend.

Brush the Dog Daily

Some short-haired breeds might not look like the need daily brushing, but you should, anyway. Not only does brushing straighten up the hair, it also loosens up the dead hair, gives a skin massage, and also redistributes the oils of the coat to make your dog’s fur look shinier and more healthy.

Clip the Dog’s Nails

Before you bathe your dog, clip his nails. If your dog has clear-colored nails, great! This will be easy. Simply trim away the clear part and stop before you hit the quick, which is the pink part of the nail closest to the paw. Unfortunately, if your dog has dark nails this will be more difficult to do, and you might need to take him to a groomer or vet.

Bathe Your Dog

It depends on your dog’s fur and lifestyle how often you need to bathe your dog. If you have a dog that rarely goes outside or gets dirty then you might be able to bathe him once per month. However, if you have an active dog who loves to roll around in the dirt and get messy then you might need to bathe him every week, or as needed.

The actual task of bathing the dog is simple. Just fill up your tub about 1/3 of the way with lukewarm water. Place your dog in the tub, get his fur wet by pouring water over him with a cup or by using a shower head attachment. Massage in some doggie shampoo, and rinse. Dry him with a nice, fresh towel, and give him a treat. Simple!
