Getting along with difficult people can be a little stressful. Here are some tips and ideas from DealDash to make things go more smoothly.

Do you live or work with someone who has a difficult personality? It can be hard to get along with someone who has a very different personality or beliefs from you, but you should try. Give this person a chance, and do your best to get along with them. Here are some ideas from DealDash for getting along with difficult people.

Find Some Common Ground

Getting along with a difficult person can be made a little bit easier if you can find something in common with them. It doesn’t have to be something huge and life-changing. Just discovering that you both have a love of coffee or a TV show could be enough to give you fodder for future conversations. No matter how different two people are, there’s an excellent chance that they can find at least one thing in common.

You Do You

What I mean by “you do you” is your thoughts and actions are controlled by you. Just because someone is a little snarky or rude to you doesn’t mean that you have to match their bad attitude. You can simply ignore it and act like they are speaking politely, or you can go overboard with friendliness and it might change their attitude.

Maybe It’s Not Just Them

If you take a close look at your attitude and demeanor when you are interacting with this person, is it possible you could be part of the problem? If you have had bad interactions in the past with this person, perhaps you are being unintentionally rude to them in the present tense. Even if you don’t like this person, try to do your best to be friendly to them. Remember, most bad relationships aren’t usually 100% just one person’s fault.

Look On the Bright Side

Even the most unpleasant person most likely has a couple of good traits within them. Trying to see the positive in any person may help to improve your interactions with them. It might take some time to figure out what their positive traits are, but they are probably there. Perhaps they are a great parent, a hard worker, or intelligent. Take a little time to think about it, and I bet you’ll be able to find at least one thing about this person that you admire.
