DealDash Starts Seeds for the Garden

Starting seeds dealdash

Depending on where you live, it might be a good time to start your seeds. Here are some tips and ideas from DealDash to get them started.

Are you ready to get your fruits and veggie seeds started indoors? It’s easy to do and makes a fun project to do with the kids or grandkids. It can get a little messy, so be sure to do it somewhere that yo can easily clean up such as the basement, garage, or even outside if you can catch a warm day. According to the Farmer’s Almanac, most annual flowers and vegetables should be sown indoors about 6 weeks before the last frost in your area. Depending on your location, that could be right now!

You don’t need many things to get your seeds started, but here is a small list:

Materials Needed:

  • Seed packets
  • soil less peat moss
  • Containers
  • Water

Easy Directions:

  • Fill your containers with soil less peat moss almost to the top, and then moisten with warm water.
  • Plant your seeds according to your seed packet. Press them into the peat moss unless the packet says otherwise. Plant the largest seeds in the package to get the best germination rate.
  • Cover containers with plastic wrap and poke a few holes for ventilation.
  • Find a place in your house where there is natural bottom heat—on top of the refrigerator is a great spot.
  • When the little baby seedlings appear, remove the plastic and move the seed containers into bright light.
  • After the seeds have sprouted and are growing a few leaves move the seedlings carefully to the new pots and water them well.

What sorts of seeds are you planning on planting this year? I am really looking forward to doing tomatoes, cucumbers, and zucchini squash this year. I have missed out on planting seeds for the last two years due to being pregnant the first time around and having a newborn the second time around! Now that life has returned to normal I’m ready to get my seeds started and enjoy watching my plants grow this year.
