These days, everyone is trying to stay at home more often. DealDash is here to give you some suggestions on turning a room into a home gym.
Having a home gym in these times can be very beneficial. Many gyms have closed their doors or have limited hours and capacity. Avoid all of that by turning a room in your home into a gym. Here are some ideas from DealDash to get you started.
Choose a Spot
Firstly, you have to find the best spot in your home to get started. Some people like to choose a basement due to the noise factor. However, other people prefer to use a spare bedroom or other room in the main house so they can benefit from the heat and air conditioning. If you don’t have a spare spot in your home, you can think outside the box and come up with a solution. Also, if you’re serious about having a home gym and don’t mind a bit of expense, you could install a 3-season sunroom onto your home. This is typically much cheaper and faster than having an actual addition built onto your home. You could also clear out a spot in your garage, or set up an outdoor workout area.
Prepare the Room (and Yourself!) for Workouts
Next, after you have figured out exactly where you want your home gym to be, you can prepare the room. If you have hardwood floors you might want to consider putting down a large rug or some interlocking foam flooring to protect your hardwood. Alternately, you could install some inexpensive indoor/outdoor carpet that would protect your floor and also be gentle on your feet. Also, you should also remove things from the room that don’t fit into the gym aesthetic – you don’t want a nice soft, comfy couch in there. There would be too much lounging and not enough sweating!
Additionally, if you are a beginner, you will also want to prepare yourself as well as the room. You always want to talk to your doctor before you start a workout program. Once your doctor has cleared you for exercise, you should read up on exercise for beginners. WebMD is a great place to start. Check out this Fitness 101 article to get started.
