Need some help shopping with your kids? Here are some tips and tricks from DealDash to help.

Grocery shopping with small children is no easy task. No matter if they’re your kids, grandkids, or kids that you are babysitting, it is really a chore. We have all been there in the grocery store shopping when a small child has a meltdown when told they cannot get what they want. Glad that it isn’t your child? Well what if it was? Here are some ways to survive grocery day when you are in charge of small kids.

Make Sure the Kids Are Prepared

The first thing that you need to do is to make sure that you go shopping after your child has had a nap. Always keep in mind that a sleepy kid is going to be a grumpy kid so you need to avoid this at all costs.

You also want to make sure that they have eaten something after their nap so they are not hungry while shopping. It might be tempting to think that you are just going to feed them something at the store while you are shopping, but that is generally frowned upon by store management. However, sometimes it’s unavoidable.

Give Your Child a “Job”

Letting your child be “in charge” of driving the cart is another thing that you can do to have an easier time at the grocery store. You can ask your child something like “Can you take us to the vegetables?” and then let them use their imagination as far as how to get to where you need to go. This will keep their minds occupied so their will be less of a chance of them being upset for some reason while you are shopping. This won’t work with small toddlers, of course. They lack the strength needed to push the cart.

If you have a smaller child that wants to walk while you are grocery shopping you can give them small tasks to complete while getting groceries. Have them pick out a snack for after your trip or grab the vegetables that you need. This will help them stay busy while you are shopping.
