DealDash Guide for Hosting Thanksgiving

DealDash

Thanksgiving will be here in a few short weeks. If you’re hosting this year you’ll want to read these tips from DealDash.

Everyone loves Thanksgiving- it’s the perfect chance to see your family and over-indulge in food a bit. That diet can wait until next week! What most of us don’t talk about is the fact that someone has to host Thanksgiving dinner. It can be a pretty stressful day for the host. We’ve got a few tips to make hosting Thanksgiving as painless as possible. Read on for more information, from DealDash.

Pre-Set the Table

Our family has made a habit of pre-setting the table the night before. Rather than waiting until Thanksgiving to start our prep, as we’re cooking the turkey, we like to get the plates, silverware and table cloths out and at least get everything on the table. In a perfect world, we try setting the table, but when you’re making dinner for a dozen people, space can be a precious thing. By having everything out, it will speed the process up a bit on Thanksgiving morning. Of course, if you have naughty pets that like to sneak up on the table when you’re not looking you might not want to do this, Instead, you can just gather all of the dining items in a central location for easy set-up while everything is cooking.

Prepare Food Ahead of Time

If you’ve got the chance to prepare anything ahead of time, we encourage you to do so. Making your key ingredients ahead of time will save a lot of stress. After all, it’s not difficult to freeze a pie, then pull it out on Thanksgiving morning. You can also make mashed potatoes, potato salad, green bean casserole, and many more dishes the day before. This will save tons of time when you are busy on Thanksgiving Day entertaining your relatives.

Use Your Slow Cooker From DealDash

Along the same lines, allow time to do some of the work for you. Most of us forget about the wonder that is a crockpot/slow cooker. As I have said many times before, DealDash is the best place to get small appliances. One of the best kitchen items ever, the slow cooker, is available on DealDash! When you use your DealDash slow cooker you will save tons of time and effort.

There are some slow-cooker turkey recipes on the internet. We realize that you may not want to cook your turkey in a slow-cooker, but there’s nothing wrong with using it to make vegetables, potatoes, or even a cobbler. If you would like to check out the slow cookers and other kitchen items on DealDash, just click here. You will find blenders, waffle makers, coffee makers, and more in the Kitchen and Dining category.

Cook ALL the Food

It’s always a good idea to over-prepare. If you think that you have 10 people showing up, plan for 12-15. You never want to run out of food if you can avoid it. This idea also goes for overnight guests. If you’ve got the space to use, clean a few extra sets of linens and toss have them ready for a last-minute guest.

DealDash Pets: Remember Mittens and Fido’s Gift

DealDash

When you do your holiday shopping this year don’t forget your pets! They need a gift, too. Don’t worry, DealDash can help.

As the holiday quickly approaches, it’s important that we not forget the 4-legged furball part of our family. For all of the unconditional love that they give, we sometimes forget to return the favor. If you’re hosting a family gettogether, it can be especially stressful for your pet. So we’ve compiled a shortlist of how to remind your pets how much they mean to you. Read on for some suggestions from DealDash.

Homemade Treats

This may be for you as much as them. Most pets are happy with just about any treat, but you can make it a family event. Take the time to make a special treat. You’ll know that it’s healthy and it’s something that everyone can be a part of. You can make biscuits or even a little cake made of meat. No matter what you make your pet, I’m sure they will like it.

Adding to the Toy Collection

Over the years, I’ve noticed that I can let toys stick around a little too long. Maybe that rope has been around for a couple of years or maybe that ball has a hole in it and doesn’t squeak anymore. If you know that your pet has a favorite toy, try replacing it with an exact replica. In my experience, cats absolutely love the toy that is a long piece of fleece on a plastic stick.

Consider Something Warm and Fluffy

This can be a tricky one. Some pets love the idea of a soft, fluffy pet bed that they can call their own. Others aren’t interested in the bed but may love a warm coat or a fuzzy blanket that they can use to curl up on the couch (and you) and relax with. My cats love a warm fleece blanket that they can knead their little paws on. You know your pet best.

Trust the Experts

In today’s world, you can subscribe to just about anything. If you don’t know what you should get your pet, try an internet search for “subscription box for ________” whatever type of pet you have. The people putting these boxes together know what your pet might like. Let them help you out.

DealDash Home: Prep Your Home for Chilly Weather

DealDash

Most houses need some winter prep. Read these suggestions from DealDash to get some ideas.

As the temperatures drop and the leaves start to fall, it’s time to prepare for winter. Winter preparations aren’t especially difficult but can take some time. Read this article, and you will get some ideas on how to do winter prep on your home, from DealDash.

Change Your Detector Batteries

First, when you’re looking to keep your home safe, you start indoors. Let’s start by looking at your interior. You should check the detectors in your home. Whether it’s a smoke or carbon monoxide, you should change your batteries when you change your clocks. The clocks “fall back” on November 3. While you’re at it, it’s important to look at the filters in your HVAC system. Changing your filters will improve airflow and air quality.

Stay Warm and Cozy

Moving on to the exterior of your home, it’s important to focus on drafts in your house. Throughout the year, you may find that there are gaps where your windows and doors connect to the house. You can easily seal these gaps for less than $5. Gett instructions and supplies from your local hardware store.

Winterize Your Outdoor Faucets and Gutters

While you’re looking at the exterior gaps, you should also pay close attention to your outdoor faucets. Winterizing is as simple as cutting the water off and turning the faucet to the on position. This will get all the water out so that you don’t have to worry about the pipes freezing. Finally, you should be sure that you clear out your gutters. There’s nothing worse than having to go out on a cold, rainy day to clean your gutters. Some of the leaves have fallen, so now is the perfect timing.

Tidy Your Leaves

Looking at the yard, there are a few key areas to focus on. First, you should be sure to rake and bag your leaves. It doesn’t seem like something important, but it will make the yard look nice and can keep the critters away. Likewise, you should trim your trees. This is a forgotten part of winter prep. By trimming trees away from your house, it makes it much harder for squirrels to get into your attic.

DealDash Teacher Gifts That Won’t Break the Bank

DealDash

There are lots of people to buy for this holiday season, don’t forget your child’s teacher. Here are some quick, easy, and cheap ideas from DealDash.

No one has more of an impact on our children’s lives than their teachers. Teachers spend more time with our kids than anyone else. As the holidays come, it’s nice to remind teachers how important they are and how much we appreciate them. That doesn’t mean that you need to go broke doing it. Here are some ideas from DealDash that won’t break the bank.

Pens and Stationary on DealDash

To begin with, you can get a wonderful gift for your kid’s teacher on DealDash. There are stationary and pens a-plenty up for auction. These pens are brand name and high-quality. You will find single pens as well as sets of 4, 10, and 20. This is helpful if your child has more than one teacher in their classroom. DealDash also has notebooks, journals, and other office supplies available. Just click here and see the school and office supplies up for bid today.

Homemade Recipe Box

First, try something that adds a little family tradition and usefulness to their lives. Take some of your favorite recipes, put them on card stock and put them in a box. It’s something that literally gives some of your family back to the teacher and it can benefit them. And bonus – your child can draw the teacher a picture on the box as well!

Personalized Reusable Bags

If you’d like to gift something that’s useful, look at reusable tote bags. Teachers are always trying to carry around supplies, and a tote bag is a perfect way to do it. You can let your child add a little flair of their own whether they paint it or just add some foam lettering. It’s the perfect mix of unique and useful. Also, be sure to get a tote that is on the sturdy side, all of those books and papers are heavy.

Chalkboard Flowerpot

It’s another DIY option up next! Grab an every day terracotta style flower pot and paint it with chalkboard paint. Some people even paint the top “band” to look like a ruler. This is something simple that can add to the décor in any home or classroom. It’s the perfect gift to use at school or to take home.

Coffee on Me

I’m a big coffee drinker so a simple reusable coffee mug or cup (like a Tervis) is something I frequently buy for people. Try to find some of the interests that your child’s teacher has and match a coffee mug to their taste. These can be sports, Harry Potter, etc. I typically throw in a gift card for Starbucks or Dunkin’ as well. It’s something simple that can offer a bit of a pick-me-up on a rainy day.

Thanks for Reading

I hope that you found this DealDash article on gifts for your child’s teacher helpful. Remember that you don’t have to spend a lot of money on a gift for it to be special.
