DealDash Spring Cleaning: The Office

DealDash

If you have been working from home these past few weeks you have been spending a lot of time in your home office. Here are a few quick ways to clean and freshen it, from DealDash.

If you’ve been following our series, you know that we’ve got a focus on Spring Cleaning. We thought that it may be a good idea to focus on your home office given that so many people are working from home right now. Whether your office is something you’re using for work, school, or just the area that you typically keep your computer, there are a few universal ideas we’d like to offer.

First – Top of the Desk

Start with the top of your desk. If you’re anything like me, your desk ends up being a “catch-all”  where you just throw stuff. Start by cleaning the top of your desk off, dusting, and putting things into stacks. You can organize the stacks such as a pile for mail, a pile of things that need to go back into their respective places in the house, and a pile of things for the trash.

Second – Paperwork

Next, find the paperwork that needs organizing. We always seem to develop a log jam of paperwork. So, pull out the stuff that isn’t organized, and divide into stacks. Rather than the typical “keep, donate, trash” you should consider dividing based on either month or “subject”. By subject, we mean that you should put your bills together, your reports together, your work stuff should go in one pile, and school stuff should go in another. Either option works, but it’s important to have a consistent technique.

Third – General De-Cluttering

After finishing with the paperwork, focus on a general de-cluttering. Get rid of old paperwork in general (the IRS recommends keeping records for 7 years). Get rid of that dead plant, condense all those paper clips into one spot. Make sure your bookshelf is organized in whatever order you like. I”m a big fan of having different sizes and shapes so that it adds a bit more “texture” when you look at it. You may prefer to organize by subject, author, or genre.

Final Step – Computer Files

Finally, consider organizing your computer. Odds are, you’ve accumulated some files over the years. Run a de-frag and look for the files that you don’t use any more. Consider deleting old programs that are out of date and look at your download folder. Do you really need that popular meme from 2014 any more?

DealDash Small Christmas Gifts for Acquaintances

DealDash

Having a few small gifts on hand for acquaintances is a good idea. DealDash has some small gift suggestions for you.

During Christmas, there is no shortage of people to buy gifts for. Sometimes, you feel the need to buy gifts for an acquaintance that you don’t know all that well. Ideally, you’d like to learn a little bit about what their hobbies are so that you can customize their gift a bit, but sometimes you don’t have time. Below is a list of ideas that can work for anyone, from DealDash.

Planner or Wall Calendar

Firstly, everyone needs to be organized and, sometimes, using your phone just doesn’t cut it. Consider buying someone a planner or a wall calendar. This is a class gift that just about anyone can use. The calendar offers the ability to customize by buying a specific theme (dogs, sports, etc.) I’m often surprised by how many people still use a “paper method” to keep track of their schedules. I keep my planner in the kitchen so everyone in the family can see it and know what is planned for the week.

DealDash has Desk Supplies and Candles

Next, if this person is someone from your office, you can’t really go wrong with getting nice office supplies like a fancy pen and/or personalized note pads. DealDash has auctions for fancy pens. You can get them as a single, or you can also bid on sets of 5, 10, or even 20. Also, they even come in their own little boxes, ready for wrapping. Click here for fancy pens.
DealDash also has auctions for scented candles. The candle is a classic acquaintance gift. DealDash has different scents available. Just click here to check them out.

Water Bottle, Coffee Cup, Thermos

I’m also a big fan of buying drinking thermoses or cups. A tumbler is great for the coffee drinker. A thermos is great for anyone as it’ll keep your hot drinks hot or cold drinks cold. It also offers the flexibility of being something to use for drinks or soups and the like.

Trinkets and Gadgets

Finally, if you’re really stuck, I like to purchase gadgets or trinkets that aren’t unique to anyone, but allows people to fidget to pass the time. You can find the fidget cube online. Also, there are trinket-sized puzzles that you can pick up. However, I wouldn’t look at the fidget spinner that was a fad a few years ago as that could be perceived as being a bit too juvenile. Unless, of course, you are buying for a juvenile acquaintance, such as the teen child of your friend.

DealDash Gift Suggestions for Your Co-Workers

dealdash

With the holidays coming you might be attending a holiday party at work. This usually includes a gift exchange. Here are some great ideas from DealDash to get a great gift your co-worker will love!

The holidays are a time for giving, and sometimes you may want to give gifts to your co-workers. It can be tough when you are trying to figure out what type of gift to get your business partner or co-worker. Luckily there are some gifts that are good that you can give your co-workers to show that you appreciate them. Here are some suggestions from DealDash.

Gift Cards (From DealDash, of Course!)

Gift cards are a simple gift to give, but your co-workers will appreciate them. You are always a winner when you get a gift card from DealDash because if you don’t win the auction you can always pay the face value of the gift card in a BIN (Buy It Now) to purchase the gift card and receive all of your bids back that you used on the auction. You will also get free shipping! What a deal! Just click here to check out the gift cards on DealDash.

Coffee Mugs and Teapots

Most people drink coffee or tea in the morning, so a coffee mug or teapot will be a good gift for your co-worker. You can get a mug with a funny saying or you can personalize it by using a variety of personalization websites. You can also add a silicone grip to the coffee mug, so the mug will not be too hot.  A coffee mug is a perfect gift for your co-worker if they like coffee. A teapot makes an excellent gift for a co-worker as well. If you would like to see the lovely selection of kitchen and dining items that DealDash has, just click here to go to the Kitchen and Dining category.

Gift Sets

Another great Christmas gift for your Co-worker is a gift set. There are a variety of gift sets such as cologne, candles, makeup, or office gift sets. Gift sets are a great way to show that you put some thought into the gift. They will last longer, and your co-workers will not have to go back in forth to the store to get what they need. Choosing the right gift set will bring joy to your co-workers this Christmas.

Thanks for Reading

Giving holiday gifts to your co-workers is a nice gesture. Even if you don’t socialize with them outside of the office, it is good to give them gifts to show that you appreciate their hard work. I hope these gifts will help you figure out what to give your co-worker for the holidays. The Christmas season only comes once a year so it is best to choose a present that is memorable for your co-worker.

DealDash Helps: Is Working at Home Right for You?

DealDash

Have you ever wondered if working at home might be a good fit for you? Read on for information from DealDash.

No matter if you are a first-time parent or a parent of several children you might wonder if working at home might be the right solution for your family.  There are many things that you need to keep into consideration before making that choice. Here are some of the things you might want to consider, from DealDash.

Do You Have Support?

Do you have the support of your family? Working from home is more difficult than you think so you need to be sure that you have a solid support system put in place. If you do not you just may find that working from home just might not be the right option for you.

If you have a spouse, make sure that they are on board with your plan to work from home. Do you plan on being a freelancer? If so, you most likely won’t have access to a group health insurance plan. Make sure that your spouse is able to provide health insurance for the family.

Telecommuting Might Be an Option

Does your place of work offer telecommuting options? This should be one of the first few things that you consider when you want to work from home. If your place of work offers telecommuting options this would be your easiest transition into working from home. If they don’t you will need to consider a career change or becoming a freelancer.

Do You Have Space?

Do you have room in your house to work from home? You will need to make sure that you have an area set aside for you to work from home in. Having a dedicated area to work from home will allow you to focus on the work that you need to get done. It would be extremely helpful if this area has a door, but it isn’t a must.

Will You Still Need Daycare?

Will you still need childcare when you work from home? Now, this seems to negate the purpose of working from home, however, there are many people that work from home that have childcare for their kids. Typically this is for a small portion of the day so they can get their work done instead of full-time daycare. Some people can do without daycare, but this but it is definitely something to consider.

Thanks for Reading the Blog

Taking all of these things into consideration will help you to make the best choices as to whether or not working at home is the right choice for your family.

DealDash Helps Create a Calm Office Space

DealDash

Do you want to feel happier at more calm at work? If so, then read this article from DealDash.

Going to work can sometimes be stressful. However, if you can manage to turn your personal office space or cubicle into a place that you feel relaxed then your happiness and your productivity will increase. A stark environment with bare white walls does nothing to calm you or make you feel at ease. Try some of these tips from DealDash to improve your office life by creating a calming office space.

Plants, Plants Everywhere

There is nothing more calming or stress-reducing than some beautiful green plants in your work space. Plants can de-stress you, make you feel more relaxed, and look nice as well. I prefer real plants, but the artificial kind will work as well. If you aren’t a big fan of leafy green plants, then just try a small succulent on your desk or a small bouquet of flowers to cheer up your space.

Clean Up

If you have 22 different post-its stuck around your cubicle, along with various papers, pens, and half-eaten food (ew!) then it’s time to clean up your office space. Clean up is simple, just start with the things that can definitely be thrown away or recycled such as that half-eaten bagel and those lunch take-out menus that you can easily look up online if you need them. Once you have thrown away the trash, then tidy up the rest by organizing them nicely. You will feel much better about your space when it’s clean.

Adding a Touch of Home

Now that you have gotten some nice plants and cleared away your trash and recyclables, it’s time to decorate. Bring in a few framed photos of your family, friends, or pet. They will make you feel more calm and happy through the stress of the day. You can also bring in your favorite coffee mug, and even a foot massager for under your desk (Shhhh! I won’t tell!). If you are a fan of the new flameless LED candles you could bring in one of those as well. They typically have remotes so you can change their color throughout the day to suit your mood.

Music to My Ears

If you aren’t required to be on the phone most of the day, then bring in your favorite music. You can load up your iPod with different playlists to complement your mood. Make a “busy day” playlist with background music, and a “slow day” playlist with lots of upbeat songs to get you through a slow day. If you have your own office then a Bluetooth speaker might be the thing for you, however, if you are out in the “cubicle farm”, then you’ll need to get headphones or ear buds. If your job requires you to answer the phone then try just sticking in 1 ear bud so you can hear when the phone rings.
