It’s a busy go-go-go world, time to take a deep breath and relax. Here are some ideas and tips from DealDash.

When’s the last time you left your phone off for a weekend and just relaxed and enjoyed the company of your friends and family? Years? Maybe it’s time to slow down, relax, and enjoy the company of those around you.

Turn Off the Devices

Try it! You can start small. One day per when you get home from work plug your phone into the charger and don’t pick it up again. Don’t open your laptop, don’t pick up your tablet, and just relax.

If you’d like to do this a couple of times per week that will go a long way to being more mindful and appreciative of the world around you. Of course, you wouldn’t want to do this all of the time, but a couple of times per week would be a great little technology break for you.

Get a Little Light Exercise

Usually, when you say “exercise” to a fairly sedentary couch potato they cringe. However, I’m not talking about running or weightlifting. When the weather gets a little nicer out (it’s coming soon!) take a half hour after work and go for a leisurely walk around your neighborhood or local park. If you’d prefer to do a family bike ride, that would be excellent as well. A little light exercise will do you a world of good and help you slow down a relax a bit.

Spend More Time With Friends

Spending time with your family is a wonderful thing and should be done often. Sometimes after people have children their friends get put aside a bit and the friendship never resumes again. Well, let’s try to put a stop to that right now.

If you have time during the week, try to meet up with a friend for drinks or coffee after work. You might arrive home to dinner a bit late and have to eat leftovers, but it will be worth it for your mental health. Having a drink and a nice conversation with a friend can help you slow down and breathe a little.

All people should try to make sure that they get rest and time to recuperate so they can be their best selves. Here are a few ideas to get you started on a day of rest and relaxation.

A short nap can feel like a mini-vacation. Sadly, you need to keep it very short – 20 to 30 minutes maximum. Anything over 30 minutes takes you into deep sleep, and makes you groggy. No one says that you can only take one nap per day, though! If you’re going for a full day of rest and relaxation, take one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

If a short nap (or two!) isn’t for you, then here is something just as relaxing. Try the simplest, shortest (and one of the most restorative) activities available to you: deep breathing. For maximum relaxation, try taking five deep breaths. As breathe, try to take notice of the natural pause between your inhale and exhale, and then between your exhale and your next inhale. Your body has a built-in regulator. Once you have mastered taking five deep breaths, try for ten. Congratulations, you’re a deep breathing master!

Sitting quietly and thinking about life can be very relaxing. Try focusing on what you can and can’t control in your life. Try thinking about exactly what your concerns and problems are and then ask yourself if you personally have any control over them. If the answer is no (quite often the answer is no) then pretend you’re in “Frozen” and “let it go.” If the answer is yes, then think about some possible solutions to your problem.

  • Walking – Walking is an awesome investment in your health. It can shed pounds, inches, and worry from your body. Taking a short walk in the evening after dinner can help your digestion, and clear your mind. As with meditation, it takes no special equipment and as much or as little time as you have available.
  • Bath – A nice hot bath can help you relax as well as make you smell great. A bath takes a little bit more time than meditation or a walk, but it’s still a fairly quick activity that can help you relax in a major way.
