Here’s a Fun Winter Craft from DealDash!
Happy Christmas Eve friends! Here is a fun mason jar snow globe craft from DealDash that you can do over the weekend.
What says “winter” to you? If you asked my daughter, she would say “Snow globes!!” She collects them and has loved them ever since she was a 2-year-old. This is a fun craft that you can do to pass the time over the weekend. If you have the supplies handy it would be a great craft to do if you have any children visiting you for the holidays.
Materials:
- A mason jar (You can get these at Target, Wal*Mart, etc.)
- Water
- Pure glycerin (You can get this at Jo-Anne’s Fabric, CVS, Wal-Green’s for around $5 – it’s used as a deep skin moisturizer)
- Glitter
- Waterproof craft glue, super glue, or epoxy
- Small, waterproof toys or even laminated photos to put inside your snow globe
Directions:
1.Take your mason jar lid off of the jar and place your toys, photos, ceramic or glass figurines, or whatever you have chosen to put inside Remember, it has to be waterproof. Make sure they are not too tall so you able to close your jar once they have been glued in place. When you’re happy with the placement, use your waterproof craft glue to glue them to the inside of your lid. You will need to let the glue dry for a while after this. If you are using super glue you can proceed to the next step after only a few minutes.
2.While you are waiting for the glue to dry, put 1 or 2 tablespoons of glitter into your jar to represent the snow. You can use all one color of glitter, or multi-colored. Add more if you like lots of snow, or less if you aren’t as much of a fan.
3.Pour some water into the jar, but be very careful not to fill the jar all the way up, because your toys will displace some of that water when you screw on the lid of the mason jar. Your water line should not reach all the way to the brim, if it does you are going to have a bit of a mess when you add the lid onto the jar.
4.Add approximately 5 drops of glycerin to the water. The glycerin thickens up the water so the glitter snow will fall slowly when you shake the snow globe.
5.Lastly, when the toys you have glued to the lid are completely dry, apply craft glue (or super glue or epoxy) around the rim and threads of the mason jar to keep the snow globe full of water and not slowly leak out. Also be sure to apply glue to the outside seam of the lid to help keep it watertight. You should check this seal periodically to make sure that it’s still tight.
6.Shake, shake shake!
