Washing your clothing is easy, but what about when there’s a tough stain? Here are some suggestions and tips for laundry stain removal from DealDash.

It’s happened to the best of us – you’re out to dinner and you get a drop of red wine, sauce, or other food stain on your brand new light-colored shirt. Or perhaps it wasn’t you, but one of your kids spilling something on your outfit when you’re out in public. You attempt to rub it off with a napkin, but it only gets worse. You aren’t headed back home for hours, are you doomed to have a stained outfit? Maybe – but maybe not! Read these helpful tips from DealDash for removing laundry stains from your clothing.

Ink

Did your or your husband get ink on your clothing at work? Or maybe it was the kids playing in the pen drawer! Is it possible to get out ink stains? Yep! Grab a can of hairspray! It might sound a little strange, but the alcohol in the spray will help to lift the ink from the fabric – apply directly onto the stain, leave on for 30 – 45 seconds, and wipe away with a damp cloth. Launder after.

Paint

It’s possible to get paint out of clothing, and luckily most paint that is marketed towards children is water-based (acrylic) This paint can be removed by rinsing the back of the stain with warm water. Next, wash in the machine with your regular laundry detergent.

Unfortunately, oil-based paint is a little bit trickier. First, check garment care label and do not attempt this method if your clothing is made from rayon, acetate or triacetate. Next, test on an inconspicuous area of the garment first. Be sure to wear rubber gloves. If this doesn’t work, take it to the dry cleaners. Maybe they will have better luck.

Blood

Small cuts and scrapes can result in tough blood stains. The trick here is to use cold water to rinse the affected garment ­– hot water will merely set the stain further. Try spraying or pouring on a little hydrogen peroxide before you rinse the garment in cold water. It should bubble away most of the blood.

Tomato Sauce / Ketchup

Amazingly,  lemons can help get rid of many red sauce stains. The acidity in the lemon juice works to cut through the oil – just rub a cut lemon over the stain before rinsing with water.
