DealDash: Create A Craft Space at Home

DealDash crafts

Love crafting? Having a dedicated craft space in your home makes things so much easier. Let DealDash help.

I’ve been a crafter all my life, but I’ve only had a dedicated craft room for the past two years. It was a must when we were looking at houses to buy. If you don’t have space for an entire craft room in your home, you just need a little corner all to yourself. It’s easy to make a small space the perfect little crafting area if you do things with organization in mind. Here are some ideas from DealDash to help you get started.

Where Can You Craft?

Anywhere! However, I suggest a nice little cozy corner in your kitchen, dining room, or family room. It’s best if there is a window for some natural light. You’ll definitely need at least one outlet, preferably more, depending on your craft of choice. Be sure that you get yourself a power strip surge protector as well. If you have a storage room, finished basement, or even a walk-in closet those would be even better. You don’t need a lot of space, just work with what you have.

What Do You Need in Your Craft Space?

It depends on the craft, of course! If knitting and crochet are your crafts of choice, then you most likely just need a comfy chair and somewhere to store your yarn and other supplies. Scrapbookers, on the other hand, will definitely need a desk along with lots of extra storage for all of their supplies. Think about all of your crafting supplies and how you can organize them nicely to fit into the space that you have available. You’re obviously the creative type, so get thinking!

Shelving, Racks, and Pegboards Oh My!

After you have started setting up your crafting space you’ll want to re-evaluate your storage situation. Almost every craft that I can think of would benefit from shelving, racks, or a pegboard – or possibly a combination. Shelving can be made inexpensively with brackets and painted 2X4s, and racks can be the cheaper plastic kind or you can spring for the nicer metal ones. Let your needs and your budget dictate what you install in your craft area.

Small Storage

Once the big items are taken care of in your crafting space, it’s time to think about the little things. Most crafting involves lots of tiny pieces, from needles, pins, thread, stickers, staples, markers, etc. Do yourself a favor and buy 5-10 matching small storage tubs for all of your different small supplies. Label them and fill them with your things. Arrange them on your shelving that you just put up, and enjoy your new crafting space!
