DealDash Cheap Halloween Costume Ideas
We are 1/4 done with October, so if you haven’t gotten your (or your kid’s) costumes ready yet, now is the time.
There are probably 50 complete ready-made costumes at any of your local box-box stores, and even more bits and pieces to make even more different costumes and variations. If you want something totally original, though, you are going to have to go to the thrift store and get creative, or get together the craft supplies and make it yourself. There are plenty of costumes that you can make with a minimum of crafting skill, especially if you combine finds from the thrift store together with makeup and accessories from the Halloween store. Let’s see what we can think of…
- Zombie – This one is really easy. Get any outfit from the thrift store or from your own closet (that you don’t mind destroying) and go to town ripping, slicing, and dousing with fake blood from the store. Then mix yourself up some whitish-bluish makeup, apply to face, add bite marks with makeup, and you’re officially undead.
- Cheerleader – If you have an eye for spotting things at the thrift store, try to find a cheerleader uniform. If that fails, just get a short pleated skirt, tank top, and knee socks. If you have a Marshall’s near you they often have little girl’s cheerleader outfits for the local college teams. I just bought my daughter a Boston College cheerleader uniform from Marshall’s for $14.99, and it’s surprisingly good quality, made by Under Armour.
- Doctor, nurse, or dentist – Just get scrubs from the thrift store or Wal*Mart and add the appropriate accessories.
- Cowgirl or cowboy – Get a plaid shirt, jeans, boots, and a cowboy at from the thrift store. Add in a cardboard cutout of a horse, or a stuffed horse, and you’re ready to rope some cattle.
- Football, basketball, baseball, or hockey player – Uniform shirts from these sports are easy to get from the thrift store. Choose your favorite and add accessories.
