DealDash Deals Tantrums

Dealing with a toddler usually means tantrums. Let DealDash help you deal with tantrums without too many tears.

When your child or grandchild is having a tantrum it can be extremely frustrating. Luckily, though, tantrums are usually a short-lived phase in your little one’s life. Until they have gained a little maturity, though, tantrums can be embarrassing, frustrating, and annoying. It might make you feel a little better to know that your child probably isn’t enjoying it, either.

Tantrums are the way to express his/her frustration when they are having trouble communicating. Most children that are young enough to still have regular tantrums don’t yet have the language skills to express in words what is bothering them. It could be anything from hunger, tiredness, or their socks are itchy. If they don’t have the words to tell you the problem, they rely on the tantrum to get your attention so that you can fix their problem. Luckily, there are a few ways that you can deal with these tantrums. Here are some ideas from DealDash.

Be Attentive

Your child develops a sense of happiness and self-esteem as you continually help him/her with their wants and needs, so try your best to fulfill the “requests” whenever possible and practical. If you can’t give your little one what he wants try offering something else in its place. If ice cream is the request, try offering something such as juice or a piece of fruit instead.

Stay Calm

When your little one is having a tantrum, try your best to be calm and neutral even if you are feeling upset or frustrated. Try not to engage too much with your child when they are having a tantrum. Too much attention will just teach them that they get extra attention when they are acting out, and everyone knows how much kids love attention! Acknowledge their feelings of anger, frustration, or whatever you think that the problem might be, but after that just sit quietly and let them get it out of their system

Distraction is a Tool

You can probably tell when your child is about to have a tantrum, and if you can catch it before it starts you might be able to avoid it altogether. Once a tantrum starts it’s fairly difficult to stop, so try to stop it before it starts. A great way to distract a small child is with toys, of course.
