DealDash Decorates the Playroom
Having a playroom for the kids is great! It keeps all of their belongings in one room instead of strewn about the house underfoot. How do you decorate your playroom?
When my husband and I were looking for our new house having a playroom was a must for us. At that point we had 2 kids and were pretty sure that we were going to have at least 1 more baby, so having a playroom for all of them just made sense to us. Ultimately we couldn’t find a great house that had everything that we were looking for and had to have one built, and you had better believe that we made sure that a playroom was included in the plans!
Now that we have 3 kids and a playroom, it’s important to differentiate the playroom from the rest of the house, and this is easily accomplished by decorating. Since we have 2 boys and 1 girl spanning an age difference of 8 years it was uncertain what kind of universal kid’s theme would fit our space best. We went with an ocean theme. Blue and white walls, ocean and sea creature decorations, and the ultimate accessory – a 90 gallon saltwater aquarium ties the whole theme together.
If your needs for a playroom are more straightforward, here are a few ideas for themes for your playroom.
Girls:
Cute woodland theme – This is actually the theme of my daughter’s bedroom, but it would be very easy to translate to a bigger scale for a playroom. Floor to ceiling wall decals are fairly inexpensive, and can be a great decoration to put on one wall. You can have a large tree decal, along with smaller decals of cutesy owls, bluebirds, squirrels, and baby deer. I was able to find lamps that had small birds on them, and it would be a fairly easy craft project to cover a few stools with some felt to make them look like tree stumps.
Castle theme – Make your playroom look like the inside of a castle with huge floor pillows with jewel toned pillowcases, a huge piece of sheer fabric hung from the ceiling can represent the lush castle experience, and definitely top off the room with some of the newer paint colors that have sparkles built right into the paint.
Boys:
Robot theme – Blue and silver are the colors for a robot themed room. If you’re feeling creative you can even paint cardboard boxes to look like robots as a large-scale decoration for the room. Robots are a great theme that can easily be expanded to computers or even Transformers.
Sports theme – Sports are a wonderful theme for a playroom that has older kids using it, most school aged kids enjoy sports, be it soccer, football, or even hockey. Sports is a great theme because you can change the theme with the sports seasons.
Neutral:
Jungle or Zoo theme – I feel like these two themes are more aimed at younger kids, which can be especially beneficial if you are planning on having more children, since you will want to keep things gender-neutral for now. A giraffe height chart can be fun in this room, as well as multi-colored bright walls with monkey, lion, and tiger wall decals.
So you see, no matter what age, stage, or gender that your kids are, it’s easy enough to find a theme that everyone can love.
