DealDash Helps Parents with Discipline

All children are naughty sometimes, and it’s important to discipline them properly. Learning how to discipline them can help your relationship. Read on for ideas from DealDash.

Have your kids or grandkids been behaving badly lately? That’s okay, it’s normal, even the best kids have bad behavior sometimes. It’s important to discipline them with firm but kind rules. Here are some suggestions from DealDeah to help you with your children’s behavior – and your reactions to it!

Be Gentle, But Firm

It’s very important for children to have rules and guidelines in place in the home. It makes the children feel safe and secure knowing that the grown-ups are there to take care of them. However, kids don’t like being told what to do or not do, and often let you know with tantrums. Don’t give in to these tantrums, but don’t be overly harsh, either. Firmly and calmly state the rules and the punishment that follows when they are broken?

What’s the Punishment?

The punishment should fit the crime, of course! Many parents use “time out” as punishment for children as young as 2. If you’re not familiar with time out, it’s a form of punishment that involves temporarily separating a child from an environment where unacceptable behavior occurred. Time out is typically 1 minute for each year of the child’s age, for example, a 5-year-old would get 5 minutes of time out.

Stay Calm, If You Can

It’s important to try to stay calm when you are disciplining your children. You want your children to take you seriously, but not be scared of you, or be afraid to tell you when they make mistakes. This can be tricky when your children are behaving badly, but it can be done.

Of course, everyone loses their cool sometimes, and if you do or say something you regret, you should apologize to your children as soon as you can. No one is perfect, and letting them know that you’ve made a mistake is also a good lesson to learn in humility and forgiveness.
