With many parts of the country coming into a rainy season soon it’s important to be prepared. Here are some tips from DealDash to deal with a power outage.

There are times when natural disasters are going happen, and sometimes bad weather may cause your power to go out. When the power goes out it can be a very stressful time. So many people are used to things such as the internet, frozen foods, and everything that you need power for. There are some ways to prepare for a power outage that you should know about. Read on for more information from DealDash.

Have a Plan

Sometimes you will know when a power outage is going to happen. However, at other times you may be clueless to the whims of the weather. Before you lose power you should create a plan with your family.  You should give each of your family members instructions on what to do such as who gets the flashlights and batteries. When you have a plan in action you will be well prepared. Remember, even the youngest members of your family will want to be prepared and know what will happen if the power goes out.

Have the Necessary Supplies

You need certain supplies when the power is going to go out. It is best to have canned foods, plenty of water, flashlights, and batteries. Before the power goes out you have to make sure that your phone is completely charged so you can get emergency and weather alerts.

Some people might think that this is going overboard, but if you live in a region where the power goes out frequently you might consider investing in a flashlight/lantern/radio combo that can be electrically charged, manually cranked, or charged by a solar panel. Personally, I have one of these items and have gotten other ones for relatives as gifts. They don’t seem very useful until you really need them, but then they are a very handy thing to have.

Purchase a Generator

One of the smartest ways to prepare for a power outage is to purchase an at-home generator. It can be hard to choose the right generator so you should ask a trained electrician. They can give you advice and install the generator. It is important to have carbon monoxide alarms when you have a generator so make sure you also get those alarms installed. If you live in certain parts of the country such as the South East or Gulf Coast, then having a generator is a must.
