When you are a parent you may be looking for ways to really connect with your child. While it seems like they have a great deal of time your child will grow up fast. You will want to make sure that you can connect with your child in a meaningful way. Here are several ways that you can connect with your child today, from DealDash.
Share Breakfast
You should sit down and eat breakfast with them if you are able to do so. Ask them what is going on in school today if it is that time of year. Alternatively, ask them what they have planned for the day if it is summertime. Asking them what is going on in their lives will really help you to connect with your child. Even if you can’t make breakfast with them an everyday thing, try to do it a few times per week.
Share Hobbies
You should also consider getting involved in an activity that your child enjoys such as music or sports. You could teach your child something that you really enjoy, a certain craft for example, or another pastime that you like. It is a great way to spend some quality time together and really connect with each other.
My daughter just joined girl scouts this year. I was a girl scout when I was young and really enjoyed it. I am so happy that I can share that with her. It’s fun to leave “the boys” at home and have some girl time at the meetings. If you are looking for a fun way to connect with your child that doesn’t require any special knowledge or too big of a time commitment (our meetings are twice per month), then give scouts a try!
Read With Them
Reading with your child is another great way to connect with them. You can talk about your child’s book if they happen to be an older child and have a lot of fun immersing yourself in the world of the books if you are reading a book with a younger child. Either way, you are helping your child learn while they are having fun listening to or reading a book. Giving them a love of reading at a young age is a great gift for when they are older.
Just Listen
Take the time to listen to your kids without feeling the need to fix everything is a fantastic way to connect with them. Just empathize with them even if you are not really understanding how they are feeling. It will really make a great connection with your child as they will feel like they are really being heard.
